Is this prof comparable to hunter of wow (pet taunting/tanking+hunter dpsing) ?
a) “Which class is the best ranged damage class in GW2 with heavy dmg + reasonable surivivability ?.”
Answer: Staff ele
b)“Which class is the best solo class for playing and leveling ?”
Answer: Which ever class you find to be the most fun…and yes, I am being serious, any class can be used to solo most of the content so just find one that you enjoy.

That’s what I went with when I first played and I believe it still has the highest DPS with staff. I also had to use summons to tank some of the veterans I encountered when playing the game while leveling.

They’re all fairly good and it depends on what you’ll be doing to level that class.
a.) Best long range damage is indeed staff ele. survivability is good.
b.) All open world content is equally easy with every class. Maybe a tid bit easier with ranger, necro or warrior. some say thief due to easy accessible stealth. U can’t go wrong there. If u look for soloing dungeons or fractals i am not experienced enough at that to give a suggestion, but ive heard warriors are good all around.
There is no taunt mechanic in this game, but mobs go often after the enemy with the highest toughness, so a bear or another tanky pet often gets the hits, but never guaranteed.
A) Ranger but do not use LB all the time do Explore Mixing in the Melee options with the Ranged too , it is a strong Ranged user no matter how you build it but it really shines well witha Hybrid fighting style just like most of the classes in this game.
B) best Solo class i would say is a warroir due to its Brutish nature it heals while fighting rather than having to hide/make distance then heal so it is much more suited for Active combat and Surviving difficult Situations like dungeon bosses , though again that all depends on the dungeon/ boss type ect ect but over all warroir i think does the best job at PvE / leveling solo.
the Ranger is the Opposite of the Wow hunter the Pet is here to help us not the other way round , some pets have stats for tanking but they are more used for the skills/ and utility they bring which we can improve on from our Traits.
Rangers in gw2 are masters of what they trait for be it , damage/support or hard controling effects or even Maxing out that LB damage , but it comes at a Hard investment cost meaning you have to ether give up nearly all one of the 3 types to do one Main role , they are completely flexiable to do what ever you want them to do we have pet options for any type of build and most of the weapons Suit Multipul roles of Damage+pet buffing or even a hybrid fighting style .
Ranger a good solo class , to most PvE is easy for rangers in melee and in killing champions on the open field not so much in confined spaces as most of the skills we have to avoid damage require space to move around.
easly to pick up and play but it is hard to master so if you like a Good Gradual challenge with near never evening learning experiences Ranger is a good choice .
with HoT anet are working on the druid + updating some of the core ranger skills/traits though atm all the classe are between the heart of thorns changes and the last major balance patch i see Ranger becoming or falling into a great postion in the game.
though the gw2 ranger doesn’t base itself off the stereotypical definitions of what WoW would base thier hunter on.
with ranger is about knowledge is power , knowing nature is its Ultimate strenght , high level players of the ranger Encourage new rangers to try out different pets in different situations and learn what pet suits which loction or Utility for your build choices or Team / group set up.
you can change pets on the fly out of combat even when in dungeons so don’t be scared to try new things with different pets you are not restricted to one pet at a time.
if u are looking for a nearly undieable but very boring playstyle go thief and permablind them with pistol offhand 5 and get sword for mainhand. nearly nothing will be able to kill you. shortbow for aoe dmg and movement, stealth for disengage. but there is nothing in the open world you really need that for and every other class has it’s imba mechanics, too.

We literally get a taunt mechanic with HoT, so… uh, there is a taunt mechanic in this game^^
As for your questions, OP: I agree with the staff ele recommendation. It’s a fun and relatively easy class to play (with power/toughness/vitality gear for minimum squishiness). Necro would be my second recommendation, though for best DPS you’ll need to go toe to toe with enemies. You have a second health pool though, so there’s that for survivability.

the most useful advice i can give a new player is not which class to play, but more to keep an eye at your equipment. keep it updated every 5 or 10 levels, go for power and vit gear and get those runes inside your armor. preferably 6 different ones with +10 power each. blue or green equipment and green runes are very cheap to get, u dont have to be a veteran to outfit your chars.

A – Elementalist has good ranged damage and is one of the top classes in the 3 aspects of the game. You can also go dagger/dagger if you feel like getting amongst the mobs. It shines in PVE.
B – Guardian is probably the easiest one for solo play, I’ve managed to get mine to 80 with only 3 deaths. It is also a very strong class in either PVE or PVP.
C – Ranger is the same as a WOW hunter, but from what I hear it’s not as welcome in dungeon groups. With the new elite spec they might become a lot more welcome as apparently it will be a healing spec, at this moment we do not have a great deal of details about it but if you are keen to try one there will be a beta weekend next weekend and you can create a beta level 80 character and try it out for yourself.
The only class that presents a little challenge in PVE in my opinion is the Mesmer as it is by far the slowest class of the all, this will also change with HOT as the elite spec finally will give mesmers a 25% speed increase trait. You might also find it hard to tag mobs in zergs with a Mesmer as we don’t have a lot of AoE damage. To balance all this PVE misery they are great to play in PVP in my opinion.

what u want to say is there is going to be a taunt mechanic in the game. and all we have seen is a taunt for some seconds. nothing remotely comparable to taunt mechanics in other big mmos so don’t confuse newcomers :p

its welcome in dungeons just don’t camp Longbow all the time use it to close in to the target and go Melee, also The gw2 ranger is no where near like the WoW hunter.
well tbh it will be hard to get a spot in bersi meta comp teams with a ranger. not that i personally wont take a ranger in the grp but there are a lot of people only looking at metabattle and thinking rangers are useless. also there are not regularly taken in pvp at a competetive level. again i dont want to start a discussion IF rangers are useless i only want to say that they are seen as not up to par by a lot of players which WILL affect your experience when playing a ranger
a) Which class is the best ranged damage class in GW2 with heavy dmg + reasonable surivivability ?.
I am currently at level 4 with elementalist profession (human)
Is my choice correct ?
Answer~ Staff Elementalist is going to do the most damage reliably in any given situation, however a Longbow Ranger with Sword/Dagger as melee can be quite devastating. The problem you’ll face if you go Ranger is that in Dungeons no one wants you. Necromancers have this problem as well. I’d say stick with the elementalist. It’s slow leveling up, but the end result is wonderful.
b) Which class is the best solo class for playing and leveling ?.
You’re on the right track. My first 80 was a ranger, but I later switched to warrior. My opinion is that – as pve goes – all classes are equally good at 80 except Guardian, Mesmer, or Necro. I don’t like these last two because they play very samey. They just don’t have any variety to the way they are played nor can be played until the berserker gear meta gets fed to the kittens.

A taunt mechanic wasn’t referring to any sort of specific taunt mechanic. OP was wondering about pet taunt – which I was talking about as well: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beastly_Warden
Depending on how you use your pets, it is very much comparable. Maybe I could’ve posted the link before, but I don’t see how this is that confusing oO
