There is not enough content for level 80: you can go WvWvW (which I don’t like), or do tPvP (which gets boring after some time), or you spend your time farming worldbosses or champions in Orr.
In short: you repeat the same things over and over again.
I would love to see some more player vs player content with large groups fighting against each other on bigger maps, not just 5 vs 5 battles on small maps as it is now in tPvP.

The game is what it is. I hope they changed the direction, because they keep focusing on living story which is something I don’t personally enjoy.

But if there are better games to play, I’ll already be playing a different games. I’m waiting a couple weeks for a new game that is coming out. If that game sucks, I guess I have to find a new hobby.

This depends a lot on your playstyle. If you rushed to level 80 and hurried through the game, then yes, it’s going to feel like there’s not much to do. For me personally, I took my own sweet time getting through the game, and yet my characters all reached level 80 by the time I was in the level 15 – 25 maps. So technically, everything I’ve done since then was level 80 content. That was way back in early 2013.

It’s now late 2014, and I STILL haven’t really been to Orr yet (outside of one trip I made to buy a huge stockpile of Obsidian Shards.) My characters are now in the process of mapping Fireheart Rise and Mount Maelstrom. I’ve still not done any dungeons higher than SE. I still haven’t finished the Personal Story! Within the last 6 months, I’ve started doing PvP and WvW, which has vastly increased the activities I can do in the game. And of course, there’s the Living Story to keep up with as well.

Good point as I see it.

Anyway, everyone who plays the game finds something that is interesting at max level and game has a various things to do.
I found it fun to make alts to explore very different paths in personal story, level them and then complete world map and LS2.

Thread title is kind of misleading. This is essentially a request for some sort of GvG battles (bigger than PvP but not quite as large scale as WvW), and this would be pretty cool. I’m all for more options.

The beauty of this game is that it actually begins at 80. There’s nothing at all that you can’t do at the level cap.

You level so fast that you have seen less than 10% of the world when you hit 80.

So go out and explore the world.

  • map completion and all the different events
  • achievements
  • ascended equipment with a few legendary weapons

Should keep you busy for another 1000 lvl ups.

But admittedly, as well equiped down leveled a lot things are to easy. An option to level down a few more levels, I.e. play 1-5 level below mob level instead of always 1-2 level above mobs would be nice. An option to choose less crowded maps such that you can fight champs and world-bosses with a handful people and not a 50-100 blob would be nice. And the real luxury would be hard-mode maps, where mob density would be higher, veteran percentage would be higher and mob respawn would be shorter. E.g. Orr was more difficult 2-years ago, they nerfed all this due many complaints about difficulty, and mega server was introduced as well, as many people found it to difficult to do events with a few companions instead of a blob.

Ceterum censeo SFR esse delendam!

I’d have to agree, I mean it’s good that they’ve opened more up to do as you’re levelling, way more than most games, but the problem is you don’t really seem to unlock anything new once you hit 80. This causes you to then kind of hit a brick wall, since you’ve probably tried out most of the different gamemodes before hitting 80, like WvW, sPvP, dungeons etc, and if you’re not really into pvp of any kind, and you don’t enjoy the way ANet has handled dungeons (including Fractals), then you’re really not left with an awful lot to do after spending two hours every couple of weeks doing the latest Living Story.

What you’re really saying here, if you think about it, is that you don’t like the game. If you don’t like PvP and you don’t like WvW, and you don’t like the dungeons and fractals and obviously the living story is just 2 hours to you…there’s nothing really left but world bosses, achievement hunting, roleplaying or world completion and making alts.

The thing is, there are people who find lots to do who have played since launch on level 80 characters, because they do like the game. It’s a matter of what you like. Simplest example, it takes quite a bit of work to make Mawdry and a few insect weapons. The living story may only be a couple of hours, but the new zone is considerably more than that, if you like those things.

If you don’t like them, you don’t like the game, because that is what the game is. Not just the living story, but the “projects” that accompany the living story. The mini games. The jumping puzzles. Those are the game.

Does it matter if you’re level 80 and do a jumping puzzle or level 50? No, not really. It’s the same puzzle. You either like them or you don’t.

Same with mini games.

Same with crafting or farming the zones.

You simply don’t like what’s on offer, and that’s okay. No game is going to be for everyone.

I’ve enjoyed other parts of the game, I loved the Personal Story, I loved doing Dynamic Events, I quite liked Renown Hearts, finishing World Exploration on my main, as well as SAB back when it was out. I’ve also enjoyed most of the Jumping Puzzles and have finished all of them, I’ve levelled many crafts past 400, I’ve killed world Bosses dozens of times, and I’ve levelled numerous alts to level 80, as well as collected heaps and heaps of dyes and skins, but many of these areas of the game just aren’t getting looked at when they design new content.

The bulk of new content they add are ‘features’ (Which are generally good, don’t get me wrong, but not content), Living Story and new skins that are either on the Gem Store, or locked behind a brand new grindable currency, or now overly-long scavenger hunts. I’m sure there’s a good number of people who enjoy these things, clearly, but they’re not the areas of the game I personally like, and I’m just hoping they expand on those I do soon.

Dungeons are fun, especially if you set your own rules ( getting a record time, low manning, doing them with special rules like naked runs, 5 necros runs). It gets boring at one point but you can expect getting bored of a game about thousands of hours. And yes I agree with Listhenbird, being non level 80 is boring.

I don’t even know why they did lvl 1-80 with poor downscaling for GW2 when the plan was their “every pve content is endcontend” idea. They will never be able to balance the downscaling perfectly. They should have used the GW1 System to get this, because it already offered such an experience. Factions for example. You had your tutorial island (already hitting max lvl there) and after this the whole world was designed for max lvl. So basically you had the whole pve content as some kind of challengeing endcontent (later + hardmode). One design no downscaling problems.

Sounds like you’ve played the game too much quite honestly. Why don’t you go take a break for a couple of months, might invigorate you to play more.

As someone with 9 level 80 chars, I can tell you most of my time these days is spent doing one of 5 things:

a) Achievement hunting (I enjoy doing this, and typically do it with guild members) Includes daily.
b) Fractals/Dungeons (with guild members pretty much exclusively)
c) Recruiting new guild members and subsequently helping them with anything they need help with (personal story, dungeons, explaining the game, etc.)
d) WvW/PvP (typically with guild members)
e) Role-playing (with guild members).

So basically, at level 80 my guild is what keeps me active. If I didn’t have a solid guild I probably wouldn’t do any of the above. Maybe find an active guild with cool people.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Point being that GW2 is, quite honestly, just another MMO. It may try to distinguish itself with the combat mechanics and emphasis on storytelling, but at the end of the day the only way MMOs retain players is by providing repeatable content with which people can grind their lives away on.

Heck, even the OP isn’t asking for something to make it less repetitive, he’s just asking for repetitive content that suits his tastes.

This is the exact definition of wvw.

If you don’t like it, find a GVG setup. guilds duel in the borderlands of the WVW setting.

EOTM also fits your build.

you can also take it upon yourself to organize a fight club in obsidian sanctum.

lost heirlooms?

that was world exploration.

It wouldn’t be a game if we didnt have to do something, but certainly for the core of the game, you are not stuck with (slaughter x repeatedly to get strong enough to slaughter y).

If you want, you can go do just as well crafting, or gathering, or pvping.

There are little grinds, but they don’t make up the core of the game or allow you to obtain advantageous content.

I also have every job on 500 with the exception of jeweller and cook (both on 400).
What I would love to see are new classes (bard for example) or the possibility to combine 2 classes.
New big maps without that jumping thing from dry top and the possibility to reach higher levels than 80 would also be great.
I want to develop my characters in some way.

Yeah, that’s the problem with sprinting headlong to MAX_LEVEL. There’s a LOT of stuff in the game, but people completely ignore so much of it… and then complain that there’s not much content. There is, you just ignored it.

And raising the level cap doesn’t do anything to change this. If you make it 90, people sprint to 90 and then whine some more. It’s the same thing, just a bigger (and equally meaningless) number.

Ok, I can agree with this to an extent. More content is always nice, it just takes time.

“you repeat the same things over and over again”

Uh, you realize this is a MMO, correct? That’s pretty much the main premise for keeping people busy…. make them do it over and over again. There really isn’t a means of getting away from repetition, considering the object is to keep people playing and content cannot be produced at the same rate in which it is consumed.

I tend to like the new trait system – the going out and finding them. It still needs work (like, I don’ think any trait should be locked behind map completion for example), but I think with time they’ll get it ironed out. I’ve made 3 new characters (warrior, thief, ele) specifically to play with the trait hunting.

Concept was fine. Execution was horrible. :\

I’m an altaholic, but trying out the new system on my ranger, even with a friend, just felt lame. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a good revamp of the system, like mini-dungeons or summonable dynamic events from a starting point. That would give me something to do, even after I hit 80.

The thing I like about GW2 compared to other MMOs is that it’s a high quality game that I paid for, once. As a result, despite owning GW2 at launch, I have 5 characters none of which are at 80, because I can take breaks whenever I want without any kind of subscription hassle. Although I question parts of the new trait system (it seems extremely end-loaded) it hasn’t inconvenienced me that much since my characters are old. At least it makes trying different trait builds super easy one you have them.

While it’s repeating content, I’ve found it interesting to revisit encounters I once thought were tough as a low-level character with a level 80 character with exotic and ascended gear and see what I can do solo. A lot of those encounters play very differently.
