Ok, so I’ve spent the last 6 hours trying to beat my 1st opponent in Belcher’s Bluff (I started with the Norm one) The game mechanics put you at such a low position that it only causes frustration. Here’s Whats wrong with the mini game.
1. The npc starts with 2x your health.
2. The npc gains the equivalent of 2 drinks when they drink water while your character only receives 1/2 a drink
3. I’m not sure if its a bug. but apparently npcs can belch (which interrupt heals and your bluffs) twice in a row or at least they don’t have to consume 3 drink like you do.
#3 Happens rarely but it has happened to me. That aside, because of these flaws, with their ability all a npc has to do to win is belch, drink, drink, drink water, belch, drink, drink, drink water belch, drink, etc.. Even if you disrupt one of their waters the npc can still bluff occasionally so he’ll still win.
It might be that since i haven’t beaten any opponents yet a special ability could help me win, but i constantly find myself getting to 1/2 health and the npc’s has fallen only is back to 20%. He’s an easy patch for ya. If you can’t (or don’t) choose a special ability at least make it so the npc has equal health. Or how about this, make your heals = to theirs. they can heal themselves to full if they have a bluff in the mix, which has happened. I know they like to drink but I mean I’ve tried almost every method from studying the patterns to trying to keep my head above water (bada bum). Biggest waste of time.

I believe the NPCs needs to be challenged in an order according to their difficulty and Norn should be the last. As you defeat the easier ones, you get special skills that help you win against the next, harder NPC. First one should be the Sylvari followed by Asura and Human (At least, that’s how I did it.)
Plus, a tip (which worked long time ago, not sure if it still works) is to use nourishment (Mango pies) that give you regeneration, and if you have a spare rejuvenating booster it does its job as well there.

Don’t use food or boosters, they will get removed now.

Try to fight norn last, cause he is the hardest, plus u need tons of luck to defeat him, you must know exactly what are you doing.

They called us TEMPESTs, but we can use our elite to cheat death instead

Let’s be honest, the norn cheats.

They claimed to have fixed him once, but he kept right on cheating. So… cheat back.

I beat him by putting down a Box O’ Fun next to myself, setting it to shapechange, and then starting the contest. As soon as it started, I hit the box for the shapechange. Drinking stuff was gone, and I was getting Out of Combat regeneration (as I recall). It wore off before the end, but it was enough of a boost that I was able to take him down the rest of the way.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

That’s changed I believe.
