In my opinion there are many benefits to being in a guild. Comradery is the main reasons I feel being in a guild is so great for meeting new people and have an opportunities to get to know a large group of people in a friendly environment (compared to general chat) and also having a sense of belonging “I am part of X guild and we are strong!!”. Coordination is another reason why I think guilds are great! Through guild chats you can build Dungeon groups or Zerg groups a little easier then doing it through the general chat box. (Why i’d love an addition of alliances/ alliance chat. Larger network. More people=more possibilities). General help is another good reason why I think guilds are great! If you need help with finding a vista/crafting or whatever it may be your guildies are always there to help! I’m sure there are more reasons i just can’t think of them right now lol.

Soloing has its benefits too! But I’m more about group play.

Benefits:

-Convenient tips. Guild members will often mention when there’s a discount or freebie in the gem store, when world events are starting, and so-on.
-Dungeon running help. If PUGS just aren’t working out, or you can’t find people fast enough through party search, guild mates will often help you out.
-Guild events. Guild rush and the like can earn you good rewards. Also, if you like WvW or PvP, a guild that specializes in those areas can give you many people who share your interest, and who can help you improve.
-Information. If you need help with something, you can ask in guild chat. Usually someone will be able to advise you.
-Social scene

Negatives:

-Negatives usually depend on the guild. Some guilds are full of rude people. Some guilds require a lot of each member, while others are easy going. Some guilds are better organized then others. The key here is finding a guild suited to your needs.

To be completely honest there isn’t that much in terms of benefits from a gameplay perspective.
If you like guild missions, maybe there’s the difference.
Otherwise you could just have a robust friends list and still benefit socially on par with a guild without the guildness.

The physical benefits are that you can do guild missions, and get guild buffs. We trigger buffs every weekend. That means better gold drops, cheaper teleport costs, more magic find, better gathering.

Guild missions which our particular guild runs twice a week gives you guild commendations which is a currency that allows you to get things. For example the cheapest ascended accessories in the game.

Of course, knowledge is power in an MMO. I can’t tell you how many times someone popped into guild chat to say, hey Temple of Balthazar is opened if you need obby shards, or even, hey Shadow Behemoth is up, come here if you want it.

And of course if I need help on a skill point or I don’t want to run dungeons with pugs (I much prefer running them with my guild…)

Hell even doing map completion with people in the guild is much faster and much more fun.

But then you have to find the guild that fits you. It doesn’t just work with any old guild.

I think that the most important benefits of a guild, in any game, are social. Developing a circle of players with whom you can establish a sense of camaraderie, trust, and even friendship.

I don’t agree with you on everything but on this matter we’re 100% in agreement.

Guild commendations ftw. You can buy ascendent trinkets with it, wich is amazing if you hate grinding.

For me the main benefit is that it’s a relatively consistent group of like-minded people who I can talk to no matter where I am in the game.

I like my server too (even with megaservers I seem to usually end up on maps mainly populated by Desolation players) but map chat is erratic, you never know if you’ll get a really good conversation or an argument or one idiot troll or nothing at all. Plus it’s often needed to coordinate things like Dry Top events or Orrian Temples and random conversations get in the way of that.

But no matter where I am or what I’m doing I can chat to my guild, and because it’s the same group of people we can actually get to know one another which leads to better conversations.

Being able to get to know a group of people in the game has other benefits too. If I feel like doing a dungeon I can ask in guild chat and know I’ll get like-minded people offering to come without having to waste time making sure they understand things like when I say ‘no skipping’ I don’t just mean ‘no hacks that will get you banned’ I mean ‘no skipping’.

I can ask for help with things I’d never use the LFG tool for too. like beating the Champion Risen Drake Brood Mother just to get quaggan tonics or finding my way to a particular vista. Or just asking advice.

Many guilds organise their own events too. Everything from in-game parties to taking Stonemist in WvW or hosting their own PvP tournaments.

There’s the obvious stuff too, the things you can see on the guild menu or the wiki, like guild buffs, the bank, running guild missions for commendations, but to me that’s secondary to the social benefits of having a consistent group of friends to talk to and play with.

In my opinion i rather be in server teamspeak than any guild in this game, besides it adds a tag you your char name it is irrevelant if player is in a guild or not.

the guild representation sistem is really bad to, one of a kind.

- guild events: Cooperative events with nice rewards (guild commendations and a chance to get an ascended item)

- guild bonus: +10% MF, +15% karma, +10% gathering…

- guild vault

You need a guild to enjoy these things

I’ve been in a guild for most of my time in GW2, but there was a couple of months between guilds that I went solo. I highly suggest finding a good guild. You can still do stuff solo while being in a guild. You don’t get the benefits of being in a guild if….you are not in a guild.

There are some terrible guilds out there and many that won’t fit your needs. The good thing is that you are not obligated to stick with them and can leave at any time.

Guild Boosts, Guild Missions, Guild Vault and Guild Chat at present…

I’m hoping that ANet will look at adding Guild Halls soon, so we can arrange our own scrimmages like in GW1 and also create a GvG system off the back of Halls.

Sadly, Guilds right now are in a bad state since the MEGASERVER was introduced as recruiting has become a little bit tricky when recruiting people from your own server, so when joining a guild, expect to find a mix of players from all different servers in it.

Also, (from the general feel of the topics being created on the Forum) it feels like guilds are going to be struggling for members as it appears a lot of players are getting a bit frustrated and are quitting the game on-mass. So expect to be guild hopping for a while if you do join a guild as a lot of guilds are becoming inactive due to the player base drops.
