Best Class?
Guardian would be a good choice since you mentioned it. Easy to level and do dungeons with, great at 80.
Guardian’s definitely one of the safest bets (literally).
If you want to do well/be popular in all aspects, Mesmer. Or Warrior. But Warriors are boring as hell.
Definitely not Ranger. Necromancer and Engineer also have it rough.

What he said!
I have a Guardian’s and Warrior… for pure Damage the Warrior is great but the Guardian’s is good for both damage and defense
Hmm I play both a Guardian and Elementalist and I can’t decide between one if I had to…
Elementalists are awesome at 80, and really strong for PvP and WvW.
Guardians are coolish and solid strong, but I find them weak for 1v1 (either I die or they run from me) and WvW (only support, not a really good ranged profession).
Guardian or Mesmer.
Guardian are easy to level with and easy at level 80 (takes a bit of learning, but not that complicated). They are also a popular choice for dungeons as well with all their buffs and great at soloing as well.
Mesmers on the other hand are a bit harder to level with. They take a bit of practice before you can truly be useful with them. Leveling is sort of a pain until about 30 when you get all your skills. But in the end, they are amazing. Useful in every aspect and better than any other profession. Plus you get to look fabulous to boot.
I’d personally say Mesmer as the challenge to start pays off in the end. That’s if you like a challenge of course. But if you want to go the easier route, go with a Guardian.

I’m starting to get back into GW2 again, and I wanted to start fresh. I’ve never gotten far on any of my characters, I think the top level I got to was 8 on an engineer. I want to know what the best class is for a long-lasting character, you know, that’s super fantastic when you get to level 80? My mind is on a guardian, because I like how it does exceptional damage, and well as buffing and healing. I just wanted to here everyone else’s opinion on it.
Guardian is pretty much immortal, but forget about “exceptional damage”.
A common Warrior doubles the DPS of the glassiest Guardian.
Please dont be another GS Guardian specced full DPS and doing very little support thus being carried by your team.
People using easy as a positive point baffle me :P
I like my mesmer, my guardian, & my warrior best lately (the mesmer being my first) – and they’re all really strong right now. (I would never pick my guardian for damage, though – more for usefulness & being so tough.) But I still find the engineer most interesting. I hope they perk up a bit (and my ranger, too). My thief is flawless dodging underwater – I know others hated the dodge daily but I loved it. I still pick it if it’s up. But she does seem kind of fragile otherwise. I’d love my ranger to get some kind of damage buff, and the pet is actually quite annoying in instances (it’s not like you can get it to dodge or avoid aoe all that easily – well, by the time I pull it back, it’s already dead, & I’m sure I could be quicker, but I’m usually busy saving myself) Anyway – when they say rangers need buffs, they’re not kidding.
The only downside I see with warriors is that so many people have them.
All classes are best, except for ranger XD
Warriors: PvE gods
Guardians: PvE support gods.
Thief: WvW gods. You don’t even need to be skilled to take down 5 other players. If you’re skilled, you can even take down a zerg if you want to.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Warriors: PvE gods
Guardians: PvE support gods.
Thief: WvW gods. You don’t even need to be skilled to take down 5 other players. If you’re skilled, you can even take down a zerg if you want to.
Must be a bad zerg if 25 players are getting killed by a single thief.
Best overall gw2 class is the elementalist.
In WvW they can solo roam effectively, and are the most valuable professions in zerg combat
In PvE they can run mass support in dungeons and get tons of AoE. Strong overall.
Second would be guardian. Good WvW support in zergs, mediocre in roaming. Great in PvE.
Thief: WvW good. You don’t even need to be skilled to take down 5 extremely horrible under leveled/geared players. If you’re skilled, you can even take down an AFK zerg if you want to.
Fixed that for you.
Don’t forget that all classes can be good but you need to know how to play them.
I have a friend who plays a ranger and i won’t do a dungeon without him because he knows how good a ranger can be. Same goes for necro or engineer.
But if you want to play same, go for the guardian.
Thief: WvW good. You don’t even need to be skilled to take down 5 extremely horrible under leveled/geared players. If you’re skilled, you can even take down an AFK zerg if you want to.

Lol!! I approve of this!
i personaly feel ranger the best class… it has its down falls but after playing it and learning all its little ticks like pets sying fast working out when to swap and when pet dying will not effect it is one of the best classes..
ele for dps
warriror for boringness
necro fun but slow to play
heal/vit/toughness guardians are always welcome as people cant get away fromt he trinity feel and see them as “tanks”
All this warrior is boring stuff, is bull.
Be a MAN!

You never played a thief in your life, obviously.
for farming ? get a class with good ranged AoE.
First to 80 was a hunter, loved it and still enjoy it. Second was Ele wonderful to play. Third was Guard, I am still 50/50 about how much I enjoy it. 4th is mesmer, had a blast from start to where I am now. Have thief and necro in the high 40s and I am not finding them hugely fun. Have not done anything with warrior or eng.
RANGER!! farming. LOL
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
One thing people often rule out with the engineer is the fun factor. The engineer needs a lot of fixing still, that much is true. but generally the people who play the class do it for the fun of it (What is more fun than blowing stuff up?)
That being said, I’m currently leveling an elementalist for its versatility, and I love staff AoE
the game is a bit too much aoe focused.
just a tad.
Engineer, jack of all trades (My opinion)
Explosives, mines, grenades, bombs, and flamethrower for stacking bleeding and fire.
Two traits have you automatically throw mines and bombs when health and dodge are implemented.
Elixirs, potions, elixir gun, healing turret make the Engineer a combat medic.
