OK, I’ve been playing for a few days now and I’m simply curious to know which class has highest overall DPS? I’m not looking for build suggestions. In fact I want to know which class has the highest DPS without a build.

Elementalist. Incidentally, it’s also the most fun to play XD

Ele and thief when spec’d correctly but are also the squishiest and hardest to play. Most classes spec’d for full dps in zerk gear will do just fine though. Those two are just the hardest imo.

If Elementalist is one of the strongest I must be doing it wrong.I have a 26 ELementalist and feel like i do no damage.

Since record-setting dungeon runs almost always have multiple elementalists on board I’d say ele. However you’re basically one hit dead from a fly hitting your face.

Blame the NPE that made the game more back heavy than it has ever been.

1.be lv 80 for maximal damage
2.look at your traits – + 10 % dmg in fire + 10 % dmg vs burning + 10 % dmg in 600 range + 10 % when health over 90% + 10 % armor + 20 % dmg when enemies under 33 life ..
= enough dmg to be the dmg king or the second

At lvl 26 you’re not going to be able to see how powerful any class can be when spec’d for full dps. I’d suggest going into spvp getting zerk trinket and scholars runes spewing 6/6/0/0/2 using a staff and see how hard you hit then. You will die and not be useful most likely but you will do a lot of dps.

I believe the correct personal DPS list ranking is currently:

1. Thief
2. Elementalist
3. Engineer
4. Ranger
5. Warrior
6. Guardian
7. Mesmer
8. Necromancer

The reason why in record runs multiple elementalists can be taken is because Ele’s can stack might in a very short time(unlike thief shortbow which takes a while to actually stack the might) While not sacrificing a too substantial amount of damage(like Phalanx Warriors)

However keep in mind about 99% of the people here are probably not participating in record running, In some record runs people use double mesmer, but that won’t make your average dungeon run faster if you aren’t using the same methods.

if you only for number, warrior is the most damages number you can get, 32~35k+ but if fast dps i would say Thief. 1 single hit can get to 12k+

Is there a class with a decent balance between defense and DPS?

All of them have that balance ’
