Best MMORPG on the Market!
Best MMO? Nah. This game has some cool features and gimmicks, but I am already bored. I’m no WoW fanboy, havent played in a couple years, but that game is by far superior. Anyone who argues is a potato?
I say it like it is.
If you are calling this the best MMO with only 4 weeks of playing it, you are delusional, this game is nothing new, its Warhammer+Diablo sugar coated with nice graphics, WoW is and forever will be the best MMO in the market, 8 years and running baby!
What makes WoW the best? Certainly 8 years can’t have anything to do with it. Ultima Online has been online now for 16 years. Everquest has been alive now for over 13 years.
Forever is a long time. WoW will be forgotten some day.
Yet none of those retained the playerbase of WoW. Not to mention made a consistent millions of active players pay $15/m for it.

WoW won’t retain that player base forever either. Those mmorpgs I mentioned were at the forefront and revolutionized the genre which WoW has added too. Mmorpgs just weren’t as popular back then. Hell, internet wasn’t as widely available back then. Technology changed and WoW took advantage of newer technology at the right time. In my opinion a good deal of WoW’s success was due to timing. Once people are invested, they don’t want to give it up.
I always joke with one of my gaming friends that I am going to delete my WoW characters and be done with it. I haven’t done it yet, but it is very tempting to me… Not because of Guild Wars 2, but just because I will be acknowledging that I am done forever. I just don’t think I can ever enjoy it again.

Best MMORPG on the market? Likely. Still hold a fondness for Rift though.
What will be interesting is GW2 will test a pet theory of mine, unproven and untested, until this point.
I suspect as MMOs have become more accessible due to game design, digital downloads and better internet connections, that there has been a larger influx of players who do not come not from MMO backgrounds, but from single player games. These players do not have the time, nor inclination, to “live” an MMO as players in the past have traditionally done. And while people point to WoW numbers as a marker of success, it is important to keep in mind Skyrim sold (I believe) some 10 million copies and counting. And one of the few places one can get that (somewhat) similar type of experience, with that level of quality, is an MMO.
I would not be surprised if the failure of recent MMOs is not necessarily due to there not being enough to do at “endgame”, but that the many of today’s players in these games don’t enjoy traditional endgame at all. For many, it is too “grindy”, too time consuming, and involves gear and build elitism (and accompanying hostility) that they are not at all interested in dealing with. So, like a single player game, they enjoy the leveling and exploration, and move on before sinking too many/any dollars into a subscription.
I am willing to bet that GW2’s lack of subscription, its scaling design, combined with the alt friendly multiple story line progression and different starting zones, means that this type of player can roam and play through this vast world at choice. Even better, players will be able to do so without being shoved down the same old leveling path which is a sure fire recipe for boredom.
And that is why it will not suffer the fate other other MMOs.
But …. as the cliche goes, only time will tell.

I just want to thank Arenanet for providing the MMORPG playerbase with the best video game on the market today. Stunning game. I have played every major MMO since the early 2000’s and I can say this is the cream of the crop. Good job and thank you! Much Love!
P.S. Haters gonna hate and potatoes gonna potate…but haters and potatoes are not intelligent.
It basically means that anyone who dont like this game is not intelligent for you??? well, it means everything about your IQ then….
GW2 is good game, but its hard to say it is the best since it doesn’t have any real pve content (like raids or dungeons) what means that for people who looking for challenges this game is pointless wasting of time. Of course someone could say, “wait, there are dungeons….” but, what kind of dungeons? with hundreds exploits running through them is just like playing half afk, on some bosses even full afk. So no skill related dungeons disqualify this game as real pve.
but…still it is very good pvp game. Arena net could work a bit more on give players something to do except just brainlessly gathering another types of tokens… but anyway nothing new can be done in modern mmo since hard games do not exists anymore…
by the way on every internal forum of every mmorpg there is topic like “This is the best mmo ever, all others who says differently are just not intelligent haters…..” so… it is great to know that we have so many THE BEST mmo’s around….
Agreed – 400 hours and 3 LVL 80 characters!
Awesome game!
977 hours, 3 level 80s, my main is wearing top available gear… not much left to do that would interest me. It was a fun ride but I guess is over.
I’ve logged hundreds of hours already, and have no plans to move to another MMO. The open world cooperative gameplay resonated with everything I’ve ever wanted in an MMO. Definitely not perfect, but I don’t expect perfection from a recently-launched game with so many daring innovations.
Holiday content updates have been great so far, can’t wait to see what else they’ve got for us.
Got to agree really is the best MMO on the market. I have been playing MMOs since Meridian 59 released, and have watched the evolution of MMOs since then. Guild Wars 2 really beats all of them.

With that logic, Mcdonalds has the best Burgers on the market -.-

Daring innovations my foot. Would love to see you name at least 1.
Anet stop with trying to squeeze money out of people with GEMs to get gold and Ill probably agree with the OP. Til then no, since a fundamental part of the game is so flawed its painful.

Underwater combat, weapon based skills, skill>equip, non esponential leveling, crafting gathering and ressing gives exp, mesmers.

Everyone has different taste.
Imo, Guild Wars 2 is the 3rd best among the f2p/b2p mmorpgs I played.
1st – Granado Espada (The least grind, best pvp/gvg and endless carrots.)
2nd – Dragon Nest (Epic combat system.)
3rd – Guild Wars 2 (Good graphics, limited carrots, unappreciated reward system.)
4th – Maple Story (The worst grind, addictive.)
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t feel like a full mmorpg. It lacks in the psychology and human behaviour department. It excels in ‘NPC-player’ interactions but doesn’t have that “world” that led players to make ‘players-players’ chapters and memories.
Guild Wars 2 seems to be moving on to a whole new genre in-between action games (mario, tomb raider) and console rpgs (DA, skyrim) into multi-player setting.
Many late-2000s developers these days think mmorpg is just a ps3/xbox console rpg with multi-player options. That’s where new mmorpgs became very flawed in filling human needs and behaviours that’s needs to run that “virtual world” interaction system.

This game offers a very similar style of content to WoW, just less polish and quantity of content.
Not surprising given that WoW has been around many years and has a lot more funding.
And no, I don’t care for WoW much. If you prefer the more casual content that GW2 offers, excellent, opinions are opinions, but when you compare what each MMO offers objectively this game does not end up on top.
Aside from the badly designed encounters, dungeons, combat system, hyper balanced and restrictive skill system as a result of the removal of the trinty…the horrible writing and construction of personal story, the redundant grouping, the meaningless and intangible build differences and apparent lack of depth, i’d say this is one of the best MMOs ive ever played. If the combat system was better and they didnt try so hard to mangle the GW1 concepts, i’d gladly pay a monthly fee to play. Pretty disappointed in the game after waiting almost 6 years to play it. Hoping they improve things over time.
Daring innovations my foot. Would love to see you name at least 1.

Skill>Equip?
Okay..i can run a dungeon naked and spam the same skills that every ele has if they decide to use staff…so fun and deep. /sarcasm
Nobody even cares about the PvP and the combat system is boring as hell.
The game is badly designed and very shortsighted…if you can’t see why, you must be delusional or havent played long enough.

Underwater combat has been done before.
These are new features to my knowledge, but how are they innovation exactly? I have yet to see anyone praising gw2 for any of these things or other MMO’s rushing to keep up with new industry standards.
The only thing I can think of thats close to innovative in this game is level scaling so you can play with your low level friends, and even that was handled poorly.

Those on the list might have true 1-2 months back but recently many current MMOs have already taken the better mechanics of GW2 and integrate into their games. If GW2 wants to thrive, it better start looking at what the other MMOs have been doing and start adopting some of the better features of others.
Right now, the only thing GW2 have that is somewhat different is probably no holy trinity and the auto-scaling of both directions.
Innovation is the development of new customers value through solutions that meet new needs, inarticulate needs, or old customer and market needs in value adding new ways. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments, and society. Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a better and, as a result, novel idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself. Innovation differs from improvement in that innovation refers to the notion of doing something different (Lat. innovare: “to change”) rather than doing the same thing better.
Agree, loving the game even after 4 months of play. Best MMO since World of Warcraft IMO.
Wrong, endgame doesn’t start at 100% map completion, i couldn’t give less kitten about “exploration”, right now there are 4 endgame activities in GW2:
- dungeons – random difficulty without sense, no dungeon finder, kittenty looking items
- spvp – very monotonous
- WvW – no fun at all because of the nightcapping
- crafting – endless farming
But i have to agree with the OP, it was the best game i played in years, the way to 80 was great but now that i’m there it’s more boring then playing tetris. I realy hope they manage to turn the endgame content to something that actualy makes fun.
I dont think nightcapping is the problem
how are you gonna fix that you sound like an —-- i will get infracted if i say the word
We need REWARDS unique WVW skin Awesome weps / titles armor
let us have an option to show our name in wvvw your nobody you dont gain anything no rewards nothing you pay gold to be there
I play both WoW and GW2.
WoW: Best at instanced PvE. (Dungeons, raids, LFR, challenge modes, scenarios, etc.)
GW2: Best at everything else. (Casual PvP, competitive PvP, world PvE, immersion, crafting, customization, patches, art & graphics, music, value for your money, etc. You name it!)
haters gonna hate, taters gonna tate. trolls gunna troll.
AKA: Elaborate or gtfo.
Lineage 2, and it’s free. If you never besieged a castle with thousands of players. If you never killed a raid, which can slay hundreds of players with one hit, if you never defeated a hero on the arena, taking his head and points, while hundreds of players are watching and cheers your victory, if you never fought alone vs many and won, if you never mount a horse in battle, I think you don’t know what is MMORPG. And I’m sure most of you don’t know it.
This is a real game, not WoW.
The only reason OP or ANYONE else for that matter thinks GW2 is the best is because they’ve never played AoC
savvy ?
Best MMo of all time = SWG, closely followed by EQ1.
.
I never played EQ1, but of SWG I cannot agree more. That game was beyond amazing and had so many awesome things before the NGE. I still reminisce about SWG and all the great things about it.
On topic, GW2 has potential. I feel like its “doing new things” just for the sake of it. I’d wait a while longer to see what ANet does with it before declaring it the “BEST MMO”. I could definitely see GW2 becoming the best MMO, imo. But only time will tell.
And no, people, just because I didn’t proclaim GW2 is Jesus, doesn’t mean I hate it.
It was a good dream for mmo players, too bad they lied, rushed the game, handled it terribly, and went back on everything in their “manifesto” and have proven to be just another money grabbing company like all the rest.
This game needs way to many fixes to consider best mmo out there, if those fixes ever come i’m sure it will be a high ranker, i guess time will tell…

Or ya know, they might just be completely clueless and didn’t do their research correctly at times.
It IS a very very good MMO and when they eventually get around to fixing many of the game-effecting bugs it will be even better. It is also important that players keep letting ANet know where they are dropping the ball…overall it is for the game’s best interest….and that is something I think we all have at heart.
for all the flaws that gw2 has, and as players on these forums have pointed out, there are quite a number of them, gw2 really is one of the best mmos out there,
it’s vastly different than the generic korean grindy point and click mmos, it has beautiful art and the big thing i found different with gw2 was that it doesn’t seperate the elite “end game” people with new players, a level 80 can fight along side his level 10 friend and both of them can still have fun together
people keep saying wow is better and that it’s the best, and it may be more popular, but even though gw2 isn’t wow it still beats out just about every game before it (aion, tera, swtor just to name a few), it’s an absolutely fantastic game and the developers really showed that they put everything into it
in my opinion, if wow hadn’t ever popped up, gw2 would be the big mainstream mmo that everyone, their mother, their grandmother, and their grandmother’s grandmother talks about
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer

Thanx again for making my point valid; you folks need to try AoC (F2P) and much more polished – yer welcome

I’ve always considered AoC to be a pay to play game, I know they’ve been advertising themselves as free to play for a while, but in order to access all the features in AoC, you have to subscribe and be a premium user, kind of like how runescape advertises itself as a free to play game but restricts content to those who aren’t a member
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer
DAoC will always be No.1!
Followed by LotRo, then maybe GW2, then AoC, then Rift… with Swtor & WoW about 25th and fighting for last place!
We’ve been awake since March 2007! Please help!
“GW2 the game with more rolls than roles!”
we shall see what Elder scrolls online will do….this year 2013 i bet many people will be saying that its MMO of the year…
its a vicious cycle my friends
never ending
it’s vastly different than the generic korean grindy point and click mmos
I’m not going to argue with you, I’d just like to point out that whilst it doesn’t have some of the WORST aspects, it still has inherited one or two of them that honestly we could do without by a large margin and are inherently pointless.

TES Online was dead to me the moment it announced a subscription model. If people want to go back to the pay-to-play style of gaming, hey, it’s your money.
And it’s not being built by Bethesda, so it’s honestly not going to be as good as people are drumming it up to be.
Bottom line: it’s not a WoW killer either. In fact it’ll probably hold at right about the same population levels as SWTOR and GW2.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

Thats changed ! Recently they’ve opened up a great deal more of the game; more previously locked dungeons, all classes are now available, and a new crafting revamp in-bound
.

Since when did Times GOTY mean anything, these awards they come up with from random sources, are meaningless really..
Do the journalist actually play 1000 hours in these things and how much do companies pay these people for GOTY status i wonder..
it’s vastly different than the generic korean grindy point and click mmos
I’m sorry i disagree, i find it just as grindy as multiple Chinese/Korean mmos i’ve played, sure a few areas are more streamlined than other mmo’s out there but certain aspects GW2 is more grindy than a Korean mmo (e.g. open world Loot, dungeons, WvW gear etc)
(edited by Dante.1508)
It’s got is fair share of bugs, issues, and exploits, but overall, this user feels it’s still a great game. Always of the school of thought that if you didn’t like something, didn’t agree with it, and weren’t being forced to use/play it, then you could kindly take your leave and be done with it.
I’m still playing, working on making Twilight right now in fact ^__^

None of them really blew up like WoW did. It made the entire genre mainstream and seems, for the most part, to have hit the nail on the head when it comes to pleasing the most people at once. Even Blizzard has said that they will eventually abandon WoW, but there is no denying that it was and, for the time being, is a major force in the industry and what almost every MMO is held against whether they want to be or not.
Again, watch the video. In fact Lineage 2 is total grind, that’s why I stop playing it. But, and there is a big But, L2 has something which is missing here, and in every WoW like game. I call this thing Blood and glory. I have no idea why GW2 is made like game for 14 years old. Over 75% of people which are playing MMORPGs are adults. But anyway. So if you watch the video you will see some captions at the end. Epic captions which shows the vision of L2 – Blood, glory, and passion – all these things are missing in GW2, and this is a great problem.
Everyone has different taste.

LOL, what the kitten have u been smoking. Listen, I am not a huge GW2 fan, but you can not possibly put Granado Espada and Dragon nest up there. I mean, granado has zero customization, all armor looks the same, pic a char at beginning and that’s it. Dragon Nest with it’s gender locks is not much better.
So the most important things in one MMORPG are fashion and gender swapping? Maybe you shall play Dolls games instead MMORPG. I can understand if you complain about skill customization, but not this…
I guess if you never played another MMO I can see how GW2 is amazing to you
But no lol.
I guess if you never played another MMO I can see how GW2 is amazing to you

it all comes down to opinions. I’ve played plenty of other MMOs and until something even better comes out I share his view.
yes game is awesome until you get to 80, fullequipped with some exotic sets of gear for different purposes, fancy skins from dungeons etc and 50g on the bank.
then come and tell us again its the best mmo.
3 months after you posted
two characters at 80, one at 39, a few lower lvl ones
lvl 20 pvp
lots of wvw done
lvl 80 characters with multiple exotic skins for karma/dungeon tokens/gold
nice weapons & dyes of them too
many minipets collected
many other things (el tonics for example) accquired/bought
and most important of them all:
STILL HAVING A BLAST
edit: 800 hours ingame (and about 200 in it is afking…)
