Best looking & worst looking places in Tyria?
Best looking area to me is either Harathi, Kessex, or Gendarran.
The worst looking areas are in Orr, Caledon (Hate the Wurm area), and the shattered/charr areas.
Personal opinion of course
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
nice topic I love Orr, I currently have no screenshots but I’ll make one or two for this thread.
I also love Caledon Forest

My favorite and IMO best looking place is Timberline Falls. I also think Caledon Forest and Frostgorge Sound are cool too.
As far as ugly all of Orr and most of Ascalon (Fireheart Rise in particular)
When I am in Divinity’s Reach I feel like I am in building orgy. There are a lot of buildings in a relatively small area and some of them connect with each other in not so natural ways.
Best: Human areas. Looks so kitten peaceful and clean
Worst: Anything with Charr/Charr mechanical/Charr encampment on it/Underwater Orr/Arah

Good one! I didn’t even consider the cities. I still enjoy roaming both Divinity’s Reach and Hoelbrak. Both of them are places of beauty in my opinion.
I love how Orr looks and Caledon is one of my least favourite zones along with Frostgorge.
My personal favourites would be Fireheart Rise, Iron marches, Blazeridge Steppes,
Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
Malchors Leap is also up there.
The underwater area off the west coast of Malchor’s Leap is majestic.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Best looking area to me is Mt. Maelstrom. Worst looking is definitely Cursed Shore
All areas are beautiful, it is a pity that some are populated by annoying, overpowered or ugly mobs.
Favorite would be the human/centaur areas. Least favorite is the charr/branded areas. I am sure the crystal desert will be my favorite though.
Best looking, man that is hard. I like almost all of it. From Metrica to plains.
So I would say all of it except Orr, and that’s also the worst looking part of it. I hate the looks of orr and the boring monotonous foes there. The only thing I loved about Orr was farming the events before the nerf stick touched it
Best: Divinity’s Reach
Worst: Fields of Ruin
Kinda off topic, but all i can say is, with so beautiful places in Tyria, i am dieing to see Cantha one day!!:)
People who say Orr looks the worst, aren’t looking up and all around them.
Yeah it’s ruins, but what remains of the structures is a lot more impressive than anything the humans of Divinity whatchacallit ever built. I found Kessex and Ascalaon the lamest frankly. Snowden is also pretty Featureless and invinviting. It’s weird too b/c the Autumn looking Northern Ascalon / charr lands in Eye of the North was probably the prettiest area in gw1 IMHO. …not sure why Ascalon in Gw2 looks more barren.
I think some of the best looking places can be found in Jumping Puzzles. Like the hidden one in Mt. Maelstrom. City-wise, Rata Sum’s interior is pretty neat.
The worst places would be branded lands and Orr.
Perpetually in the mists
Best: Divinity’s reach
Worst: Black citadel… Horrible place
I’m surprised so many people went with the human areas- to me, they are very generic western rpg European country side - artfully done, but still pretty generic. What really impressed me was Metrica province. Huge diagonal structures with humming, transparent walls - I get a "crash landed, settled aliens" vibe from it. It works together very well, and you can tell there was a lot of care and creativity put into the design of it all.
My favorite places are Metrica Province and Caledon Forest. My hatest places would be the norn areas (Lornar’s Pass, I’m looking at you) and the charr areas (anything to the right of Plains of Ashford).
I like all of the winter areas, the snow fall, wind, and drifts reminds me of home.
I also loved the Crystal Desert in GW1 and I really, really hope we get back in there in the future.
[RISE]
Gate of Madness
Best: Ascalon, except Fireheart Rise and the branded areas.
Worst: Orr

Too busy running for my life. :P It’s not easy to safely look at much of anything in Orr.
While some of the architecture may be fundamentally interesting the whole ambiance of Orr detracts from it. The orangish/greenish tinge that hangs over each zone is off-putting. The fact that everything is littered with risen. The terrain is as dead as its denizens. All of the water, even in the surrounding ocean, looks sickly. It’s just not a pretty place.
Best?
I have a hard time choosing, I’ll just tell that most of the Hoelbrack are is not on my best.
I vote Orr for the Worst…
Leaving uneven terrain and difficulty aside, Orr is just disgusting to stay at.
I would have easily accepted a classic MMO final area with flowing Lava and purple Demons, but Orr gives me the feeling that I smell rotten fish all the time!
Same goes for southsun cove!
What’s with Arena net and rotten fish?!…
I’m mixed on Orr. I don’t like it because its too repetitive – the same look across three zones. But I love it because in small doses its visually very interesting.
Sometimes I think the best looking and worst looking zone of GW2 is Orr. It wins both prizes.
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.
for me
Best: Timberline falls (just something about the view there)
Worst: cursed shore :I
Best: Snowden and similar areas right around it.
Worst: Black Citadel and most charr stuff.
I honestly can’t point A SINGLE zone that I find ugly. To me they’re all great, including Orr and its bleakness and Black Citadel and its rusty gears.
My personal favorites are branded areas of ascalon an the icy area of the shiverpeaks and udnerwater areas in general. They’re all kittening great.
This aspect of the game is made of pure TALENT and I hope its making great portfolios for the artists.
That area on the Ring of Fire with a patch of lush, green grass and a tall tropical tree.
Definitely one of the prettier places in Tyria. To find thriving flora in such a hostile environment was awesome to me.
Note how the OP didn’t say which Tyria to post about (GW1 or GW2)

Yeah that JP in Mt. Maelstrom has also a very nice look. Probably my second best spot. Up there with the wind and grass moving because of the wind. Thats also great!

Well it’s a GW2 forum But stuff like that (desert or whatever and then one green spot) I also always like very much.
Best: Divinity’s Reach,most human areas.
Worst: Charr areas, especially The Black citadel.
Goshh, that city makes me feel hot (in a bad way lol),just imagine how it feels to be in a city made of metal in the middle of the desert.
Thats how I feel when I’m in The Black Citadel
Also,about the forest part.
I remember in EotN from GW1,there was a place with a REAL forest,it was near the Drakkar lake I think, just before you get into the Asuran area,it was a forest full of dolyaks walking in large groups,it was beautiful.

Are you talking about the small lush forest area in Varajar Fells just outside Olafstead? It is right before you zone into Verdant Cascades.

I don’t know what forest you guys mean. Have any screen-shots?
Anyway, I will look for some MMO’s Forest to show what I had in mind.
First a screen-shot of a real forest:

And when talking about stretch out empty places I mean this sort of stuff:

That sort of area’s I really mis in GW2 and if I see how beautifully some area’s in GW2 are they could also make this great.. To bad the instance based maps are making those last examples almost a no-go.

It is odd that we don’t have any forest areas.
It is odd that we don’t have any forest areas.
Because it would take too much resources for a poorly optimized game.

the wood in LotR was nice to look at but heavily tube-like. You couldn’t just run how you’d like. You really prefer that over GW2s zones?? O_o no thanks for me!
Best: Arah (Dungeon) with Mount Maelstrom being the best zone
Worst: Harathi Hinterlands
Tyr Sylvison – Warrior
Illyiah – Revenant
Worst:
- All the Maguuma maps – too cartoonish
- Black Citadel and the branded areas in Ascalon maps
Boring;
- All Kryta maps
- The non-branded parts of Ascalon maps
Best:
- All Shiverpeaks maps
- All Orr maps, including underwater

But we are talking about the looks. I personally don’t mind if a part is tube-like but not everything should be. (I understand it was like a maze in that game.. never played it) But you can still really hava forest (look) and still being able to walk in most directions.
So it is really about the looks and forst usually do have tube-like looks but that does not mean you would be be able to only walk in those ‘tubes’ like apparently in the LotR forest.
I prefer GW2’s looks

Best: Timberline Falls
Worst: Orr
Miss: Crowded city areas like kaineng, Desert areas like the Crystal Desert and the area around the Mirror of Lyss in Vabbi etc.

I made some screen-shots.
First two are at Cereboth Waypoint and the last two from the JP in Mt. Maelstrom.
