Hey guys! I’m completely new to the game and wanted to know what profession to pick for a Ranger? What’s the best one to take for the class? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :-)

They’re called crafting disciplines in this game, not professions. Your profession is ranger, so your thread title sounds really dumb, haha.

Anyway, Leather worker, Weapon smith, and Huntsman are the 3 that come to mind immediately. But you can change your crafting discipline any time you want without losing progress on the one you swap out, and it’s cheap, so you can try around if you’re not happy with the 3 I mentioned.

Half a gold is not something I’d call cheap, especially when you have to switch everyday to make daily ascended time gated mats.

You want Leatherworker for sure and you can switch between Huntsman and Weaponsmith because you won’t be using them too often. However don’t make the mistake I did by leveling all 3 armor crafting professions to 500 on main character.

You have 5 character slots and it does cost to switch between disciplines, the higher they are the more expensive, so you might want to put no more than 2 on any of your chars. I put Huntsman and Leatherworker on my ranger and put Weaponsmith on another char.

No one actually got confused. Don’t listen to that guy. People refer to them, in and out of the game, as crafting professions all the time. Not many people actually care what the proper term is.

Also, Leatherworker is a must when starting out.

Its easier to level when your attacking at range and having your pet draw enemy aggro, so it’d be easier to go huntsman and use bows.

Before you hit max. level, you should look into Jeweler and Chef since everything crafted by both of these will affect Ranger in some way. Kind of expensive though.

Huntsman gives you your ascended metal and wood (forgot their names) and your ascended leather. So if you have huntsman you have 3 / 4 of the ascended crafting mats.

Don’t mean to start an argument; but it’s better to have the correct terms than hope the terms you use get the same point across. Better to start early on learning the backwards GW2 terms than continue to perpetuate the wrong ones.

He’s clearly not at max crafting if he’s asking what disciplines to take, so trying them out to say level 30-50 and dropping them won’t lose him 50 silver… more like 5 silver.
