Hello all,

I was wondering, with all the changes, what your opinions are on the best solo for solo profession. I mean in regards to doing hearts, exploring and beating veterans. What does everyone think?

Ranger probably.

Even with the huge uncalled for damage nerf. I think Ranger is probably still the easiest in the open world. Guardian/Warrior would be a close second

Ranger would be easiest due to longbow advantage + pet……..but I’d suggest guardian, able to do just as well and should you ever want to do anything else in the game, Guardian is good for it all.

Easiest != Best. … it all hinges on scale

Can most rangers get that Skillpoint inside the Maze in Cursed Shores???
Can most rangers beat a Dredge Mining suit Veteran?
When was the last time you saw one solo the Metrica Fire Ele?
Can most rangers ever hope to solo any Event that involves a Champion, even in the Beginner zones? …much less any of the ones in mid-zones or higher

(Mine does all the time)… but most people just faceplant those instantly on their own rangers b/c the “Bear” doesn’t even do enough DPS to keep up with those mobs’ natural Regen…. nor does their pathetic LB or stupidly short ranged Shortbow anymore.

And soloing Lupicus?? It was well establised even BEFORE rangers got nerfed again that it was the slowest possible biggest PITA class to ever solo him on, which also rules out that “easy” part that so many people think of when they think of rangers.

OP, all classes are viable for what you discribe (hearts, exploring, vets), the one that is most fun for you could be any so I suggest trying a class to level 20 or so and if it doesn’t fit you start another class.

Due to the exploring bit I’d suggest starting with a class that has a speed boost built in as a passive trait.

Warning – this can cause altitis – I have fortysome characters… BEWARE! (and have FUN!)

Dual Dagger Elementalist and I solo pretty well. If anything calls for a little tanking, I just summon an Earth Elemental.

You really need to throw DE’s in there if you are talking about open world running around, because you would be foolish to exclude them. I have all the professions at 80 and have done a lot of open world PvE. Overall, I would say the guardian is best for running around. The DPS/survivability tradeoff is perhaps the best in the game. And the guardian does respectable ranged and melee damage. If you are farming events I don’t believe there is a better tool than the guardian’s staff (it also grants swiftness for the running around part of running around). The usual disclaimer directed to Anet applies: the class is not OP and does not need to be nerfed.

with the various builds available to each class it is hard to say a specific class that is ‘best’ at soloing. Having played all classes i can honestly say it is easy with all classes
I found high survivability builds the best for soloing all round and all classes can make pretty good ones which totally trivialise all soloable content.

A thief for exploring: shadow refuge is great for skillpoints + SB number 5 shadow step skill is good for avoiding mobs, I have solo’d a lot of champs, wile it wasn’t easy (Frking mobs reset when I am in stealth!!!) it wasa doable, especialy melee only bosses (blind/Shortbow’s strafin abilities)

Guardian. You literally just faceroll everything.

Sanctum of Rall (NA) – [LOD] – PvE/Dungeon Phantasm Mesmer build
Morrï (Mesmer) | Serah Mahariel (Guardian) | Morrï Mahariel (Warrior)

I’ve played four classes – Guardian, Ranger, Elementalist, and Warrior. I’d rank Guardian as the easiest due to their ample healing and mitigation skills. Ranger and Warrior are a close tie. Elementalist is of course the least strong in the situation.

Indeed. So much so that it gets dreadfully boring after a while. I had a guard I put like 3o hours and $40 into and I deleted her. I never stick with “paladin” classes, I don’t known what I was thinking, hehe. With “easy” classes, OP, I suggest you tread carefully.

for map completion the thief class hands down, the ability to be perma stealthed makes orr map completion a joke and wvw map completion as well, not to mention being able to perma stealth makes a lot of long runes to get vistas or poi’s super easy.
close second is memser and its ability for some stealth and the fact they can easily distract hard mobs with endless clones.

for everything else and general killing that would be mesmer for its ability to easily solo champ mobs, and guards and warriors in close second.
but the mesmers only good at end game while guards and warriors are good on the way up to end game.
and rangers for 3rd in both categories, but the pet can’t save you from everything

I have both a ranger and guardian …

With the current state rangers are in, guardian is far better for solo play and exploration.

Lvl 80’s: Ranger; Guardian; Mesmer; Necromancer; Thief

I play openworld PvE exclusively and my favourite class for exploring is hands down Ranger.
I am never intimidated, can poke my nose into anything and survive and yes I can take the odd champ I run into if there is no help.

A close second would be Engi and the almost miraculous ability to stay alive and get up from downed state.

Both classes are really fun for exploration, De’s, Hearts and such

Hands down thief. If the veterans are not immune to blind. They can’t touch a thief.

PvE/dungeons? Warrior. If you manage to die, you probably went AFK.
High level fractals as well as PvE? Guardian. For all those utilities.
Super-duper easy mode but no dungeons? Ranger.

Active: Mesmer, Warrior
Inactive: Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger, Thief (ex-main)
Leveling: Engineer, Necromancer
