Anyone have suggestions? I want to avoid the NPE as I find it completely unfun playing with a heavily kitten character.

In the past I have Queensdaled and Crown Pavilioned my way to 80 but both of those are gone now. EotM is out of the question as I don’t want to give Anet more EotM metrics.

In particular, is there a good way to level through Wintersday events?

Crafting is the fastest way to level but you will need about 200g if you buy everything off the TP. Check gw2crafts.net.

Just do your PvP dailies for a week.. it’s raining Tomes of Knowledge in there

Crafting and tomes from PvP are the fastest. Aside from those, EotM is the best. You playing won’t change their metrics.

This is what I do.

Tomes of Knowledge are the best.

You get them from dailies now. You also get them from Pvp, one every 6 games or so.

So make a character, use a birthday or achievement tome for instant level 20, level the character to 21 by exploring or refining luck with artificer and then park that character at a jumping puzzle (at level 21 you have a good chance at silver doubloons).

Then play normally however you would like, and spam tomes to lvl 80 whenever you want.

This doesn’t work if you want fast, but it’s absolutely the way to o if you want “no effort.”

Buy the traits. It rains skill points in the Silverwastes for example. Much easier than grinding.

Get in EOTM, find the zerg – stick with them and run the karma/xp train.

Leveling up the fastest way possible will require that you buy your traits when you hit 80 – they won’t be unlocked via natural progression. And that’s perfectly fine. Just understand you cannot have your cake and eat it too

It won’t matter if you level “normally” or through PvP or crafting. You will STILL have (almost) not traits when you hit 80. Such is the trait system (fiasco) in this game.
