Beta portal mob stolen!
No screenshot, didn’t happen
I’m not sure if the loot system works that way. Even if you killed it, with MF and all round luck factors, there was no guarantee it would have dropped for you anyway.
So … “kill steal” is a thing in GW2 now eh?
I agree with gin.7158 haha
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
If you hadn’t yet done enough damage to this enemy before another player was able to swoop in and completely destroy it.. then I’m afraid it wasn’t “your mob”.
Not that it would have dropped a portal for you even if you had killed it. Each player gets their own roll on the loot table. Him being lucky on his is no guarantee that you would have been on yours.
Mob RNG is random with each player. Even if what you said it true….Just because that mob dropped the beta portal for him, it doesn’t mean it would have for you.
Could be he was trolling you anyway. He might have already had it before he “stole” your mob, or…. is there a chat code for the portal?
If you didn’t get credit for the kill, you need to try harder because if you are already in SWastes, you should already HAVE a setup for PVE mob tagging.
Each char has their own loot table. Just because he got it doesn’t mean you would. The drops are individual for each char.
ANet may give it to you.
As everyone else has already said, that’s not how it works.
The loot system doesn’t work like that in this game. His kills his loot. That sucks that it wasn’t you. Better luck in the future.
I farmed in Dry Top and this guy runs toward my mob, kills it and I don’t get contribution. A few seconds later he links beta portal in chat and it was from my mob he looted it. He stole my beta portal! if he hadn’t attacked it I would have been the owner of that portal.
This always happens to me.
I wont give you the same flack as some others currently are.
I can appreciate your concern but the drop rates on items such as that are RNG based I believe.
Without delving into statistics and unfounded speculation, I will instead advise that he was lucky… as you may be in the coming days. It sucks that he did that to you, granted.
However, his “success” came as a fluke and not something that was guaranteed to him.
Apply this logic to yourself over the next week, you may see enlightenment (and hopefully a portal too!)
The game clearly has a different opinion than you about “whose mob that was.”
And the game’s opinion is both a lot more significant and more even-handed than yours.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

o.o I read the original post as a joke. Better luck next time!
How can you tell you didn’t do enough damage to get contribution? It isn’t like mobs have little bronze, silver or gold medals indicating whether you did enough damage. Sometimes mobs drop loot, sometimes they do not.
I would like to make a comment about the opening post, but it might be construed as unkind, even if truthful….so I will refrain.
Good luck in your future acquisition of loot drops.
if you were at the mob first and he joins and manages to fully kill it before you can even tag enough for loot you have the wrong build for PvE dude :P

Hit harder. He didn’t steal your kill. You merely softened it up for him
I was unaware Anet started selling mob rights to players, since you’re acting as if you own this mob like digital property. I’ll go ahead and post a bid for Tequatl then, five hundred finely crafted bone spoons.
Could be he was trolling you anyway. He might have already had it before he “stole” your mob, or…. is there a chat code for the portal?
well the way the game work there has to be one for all items, and yep, checking the wiki it is even up there http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Portal_to_the_Heart_of_Maguuma
You don’t have a “personal mob” in GW2, the game’s loot system make sure you have your own loot, doesn’t matter if another player is killing the mob that you are already killing.
As already said above, make sure your damage is sufficient.
If you hit the mob you will have got full contribution and your own seperate loot roll. You will know if you hit the mob as you will gain XP for it. But you do not always get loot every time you kill/assist kill a mob.
It is unfortunate that this other player got lucky and you did not, but I am 100% certain he did not steal your loot, as (like others have already said) the loot system in GW2 is not like other MMOs. There is zero loot stealing in this game.
He saw u struggle and decided to help u kill the mob, for that the game randomly rewarded him with a beta portal.
and suffer one’s share of evils, than to fear
what might happen.
this guy runs toward my mob
Huh?
Enemies do not carry the drops since they spawn. Drops are generated when they are defeated.
It won’t matter if they “stole” it or not. Them getting some drop won’t mean you’d get it too if you killed the creature first.

If that guy got a drop from it and you didn’t, then it was his mob, not yours. Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but reality bites.
