Beware before buying
How many folks are aware that this practice goes against VISA MasterCard regulations? According to both VISA and MasterCard they are not allowed to charge your card until they ship or complete the transaction.
The Cardholder only needs to contact their issuing bank (the bank your card is going through) and file a complaint. This could actually prevent ArenaNet from accepting credit cards and/or also be fined for the violation.
Bad thing is the 4 days would be over before the Dispute was settled, but it would force ANet to re-visit their business model.
Oh mighty kitten put us out of our misery. People realize we will still be trolled about this long past the 4 days, right?
It is a common warning with games and similar things. We have it here. I had it in second life. I seem to remember both warning me in advance. I have ESO being shipped to me and I am sure that is in the fine print somewhere there too ….. not that I really care since I already have more than a week’s worth of stuff I want to investigate.

Don’t read problem solved.
If a new (potential) player would check the forums, then they would likely check the Wiki, which provides this information. The forums provide a link to the Wiki, and many, many posts suggest or direct forum-users to the Wiki.
Considering the purchase page warns that part of the purchase package takes 72 hours for delivery, those concerned with limitations might be motivated to check out what all is available when.
I read the forums regularly and have played the game since launch. However, that paragraph does not imply that after he gets the “purchase” it will not work for 72 hours. A quick visit to Gamestop, an account registration, and a 2 hour download later, and the 72 hour purchase delay would seem to have passed.
If the paragraph has said "after purchasing and downloading the product, some important portions will not work, it would not have been so (deliberately?) misleading.
I have a recent forum post about a friend who bought HoT as a starter for GW2 here!
My friend also encountered the “can’t sell on TP, can’t send anything by email” situation with his bags completely full of loot. We worked around this irritant by stashing valuable stuff in his bank or a bag, and vendoring all the rest. The problem with this is when you read the forums about it, as you suggest, we find people who have not gotten rid of the 4 day thing in 10 days, or even 14. Time will tell if he lasts that long.

Well, there’s where you are mistaken. ArenaNet is not the processor; Digital River is. I’m afraid one would have to take their concerns there.
Good luck.
I never said they were the processor please read my earlier posts where I said they are the “Merchant”…
if i would of bought this game and had this notification i would be kittened as well.
i understand your point regarding your purchase and i do consider it to be annoying.
i understand that in-game there are Gold Sellers , but i think there could of been done a better way to deal with that issue …
speaking as a veteran player to me it feels bad…
its 4 days, its there for a good reason to help us all and it doesnt impact you beyond a little inconvenience that you can easily get around. Not everything in life needs to be a complain fest online when a thing is done for the right reasons..

Fair enough. Perhaps, ArenaNet feels restrictions are necessary as the payment is ‘restricted’ for an amount of time by the processor.
It’s really off-topic, anyway. The thread was about notification, not about the practice. Due research provides the information; still, perhaps another small disclaimer akin to the one about Gems is warranted. I’m sure ArenaNet has the metrics and experience to decide what is best for their marketing practices.
Good luck.
