Hello everyone,

I’m giving away a total of ~6300g in both gold and items for Christmas. This will mainly happen through GW2 streamers on Twitch (the last 1k was given away on Aurora_Peachys stream) but also other people I met on reddit, etc. My question is:

Will I get banned for this?

I’ve heard about people getting their accounts banned for sending too much gold per week. Since 6.3k is quite a lot and I only have a few more days for the giveaway, will this happen to me too?

I don’t care about the gold but I would love to keep my account for some PvP action.

Just send the gold to… oops, sorry.

It would be harsh to ban you but it would be worthwhile building up a portfolio of “evidence” to support any CS appeal you may need to make. Just a record/screenshot of what you give and to whom and why and I’m pretty sure they will reinstate you. Maybe even email CS in advance to let them know.

Yes you probably will, it is automatic and cannot send more than 500 to 1 person, if you send more to different users and is bye bye account.

Don’t think you can get banned for doing a giveaway but it’d have to be in items with a unique message with each one so you don’t get the excessive Mail thing. I’m not 100% sure but something that you won’t get banned for is helping me out without my 10,000 winters day drinks

But I can’t see any reason why you should get banned.

Sending prizes to people is certainly not against the rules, but because it is similar to other suspicious/rule-breaking activity, you might get automatically get flagged and punished unfairly.

So yeah, document everything clearly, then it will be a clear case if you do have to prove anything to CS.

You could include the URL for this thread in every one of your gifting emails.

That way it binds all of them together when ANet reviews your emails.

Of course there is nothing to say that “Those Who May Not Be Mentioned” couldn’t do the very same thing.

I would advise you to be careful and cautious about what and how much you send.
My fiancee recently got a 3 day ban for “gold selling activity”. All she was doing was sending me a gold here, 10 gold there, as well as some guildies. She’s just a very giving person. And a week before the ban she got a nice item out of a BL chest which she gave to me. I sold it on the TP and sent her 500g of the sale.

They refused to tell her what flagged her account or even look into it to stop the ban, but the above is all we can come up with for a ‘why’. Now she’s afraid to be giving. Thanks Anet!
I get the feeling once you’re banned they don’t give two kittens if the system is faulty.

I already read the „Gold Transfer“ thread before but it only mentions the limit for receiving gold. I don’t want to risk getting any of the streamers or my account banned. That’s why I will stop the giveaway until I can find an official answer.

That’s a really good idea. Are you sure this won’t get me banned?

As someone said before, just document everything and every transfer you do, collect them, and IF something should happen you can send everything to the support, linking to this thread too.

I don’t think you’ll get banned for this, most likely you’ll hit the 500G limit before, unless you’re not sending items, but you’ll never know if the anti-RMT system won’t kick in, thinking that you are doing illegal stuff.

You could even try to send an email to the support in advance, you could always refer to that later IF something should happen.

What about opening a preemptive support ticket?

THAT way you will have a ticket number to reference in case of any issues.

I’m giving away precursors instead of gold now. Works much better since there’s no “precursor per week” limit. 1k gold + 2 precursors done, 5 more to go.

I think you’ll still run the risk of being flagged and whilst you might get your ban undone, it could spoil your event.

Maybe don’t hold everything on and give everything away from the same account?

Didn’t get banned yet so it seems like the precursor method works.
