Big Green Arrows
Not being a hardcore MMO player, when I created a character I actually missed the capital city (Grove) and a large part of the introductionary personal story along with its rewards because I didn’t see the large green arrows you’re talking about in time and I walked in the wrong direction
So I should disagree, there probably may not be even enough arrows for first-timers. AFAIK, these only appears for the first quests, and once you finish them, you won’t be bothered anymore.
Just stop complaining about little things and play the game already.
It’s only for the first arrival to the Home Instance.
Deal with the fact the game recognizes you’re on your first character, play it, and you’ll never have to see it again.
There are these obnoxious, Gigantic Green Arrows that incessantly pester you (me at the moment) in Divinity’s Reach. I assume they are pointing to the perfectly obvious green star that denotes your / my “personal story.”
I haven’t (and will not) bother following them due to the fact that they utterly ruin the experience of the game. You are reduced to shutting off your brain and simply pressing your mouse button while being lead somewhere, I assume to your “personal story” point of continuance.
I’m really enjoying the game but this is like being poked in the eye, is there anything can be done about it? Anyone else bothered by this? ANet could at least make the arrows discreet like all the other icons and assists in the game. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
If I recall, they stop after you complete a fair amount of the personal story. About where it assumes you’ve finished the “learn to play” bits, which I recall to be the first two pieces. I could be wrong, it’s been ages since I finished it on my main and I don’t really pay attention on my alts.
An option to “Enable/Disable Personal Story tracking” would be nice though, would also let people remove the item from the quest tracker too. Heck, then add one for Living Story and we’d be good.
Thanks for the observations friends, helps me understand what’s going on. I’ll be a little more patient with things like this in the future.
I have to mention that this game is really, really good. It’s taken some time to grow on me and I highly recommend it to anyone curious. The detail packed into it is amazing!
Thanks again!
Do the story up to level 10, get your black lion key, ignore the rest of the story.
I personally enjoy the story as it gives heaps of xp for the time it takes to do the bits.

Enjoy good sir! Sorry if I was overly blunt in in my delivery
What khani said. The personal story is actually one of the better parts of leveling. It’s not being led by the nose until after about 40-50. The 1-20 stuff is quite fun and gives great XP. Plus, you do get a little choice here & there so replayability is an option even if you pick the same race for your enxt character.

I replay human a lot, because I like to see how Logan behaves in different pathways. The “never knew my parents” path which involves the White Mantle is just golden.
And the “lost sister” path is . . . look, say what you will about the writing in the game later but that path had an adversary which had no clear evil motive . . . just a case of “one choice led to others which brought him way off course of where he wanted to be”.
BIG GREEN ARROWS only exist in Cities and lead you to your story instance, deal with it or do your story.
Hurry and do your story so you can open a few BL chests.

Actually not true, they happen in open world also. Make a human and when you cross over the first bridge into Queensdale, the big green arrow is there pointing you toward the first heart area.

I’ve played human MAAAANY times but never noticed oh well it always happens in cities tough.
I’m pretty sure there are options in the map screen or perhaps in the settings area that disables these indicators….I could be wrong tho, I’ll check when I log in soon.
Edit: Nope I was wrong, only way to get rid of it is to complete all your personal story….

It would be nice to be able to “opt out” and turn them off in the Options panel. For new players who haven’t disabled them, they would remain visible.
