Yo!

I’m gonna create the one race i never thought i wanted to play as, a charr :P Since i like doing jumping puzzles i wonder if the size of my charr would have any pros and cons? Like the biggest and tallest vs smallest and skinniest.

I’d like to go with medium/medium, but if being the shortest and skinniest would benefit me more in jumping puzzles, then i guess i will have to go with that.

The JP designers are, for a lack of a better word, completely and utterly evil. Several of the early jumping puzzles heavily incorporated camera manipulation into its design. But what they didn’t account for (or evilly left in) was the fact that each race had different camera positions due to height.

Charr have it the worst due to their bulk. Its worst in precision jump puzzles with narrow beams, low ceilings, or tiny platforms.

My massive norn would like to have a word with you.

“Might makes Right” – the ability to commit an act is sufficient justification to do it.

hmm i see. So would the camera still be an issue even if i do the smallest charr possible?

My Charr has the Endless Toy Soldier Tonic. It makes him almost Asura-sized for those low-overhead spaces. Certain other tonics can also shrink you yet allow you to retain the ability to jump.

The downside is that you can’t fight. If you are in a spot where you might get attacked, it will hurt. You also don’t receive the benefit (I think) of the 50% Fall Damage Reduction trait. Otherwise, tonics can be a very helpful workaround for tall characters that have low ceilings to contend with.

Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm all day.

Plenty of pots to change your character. My advice? Just do it. Yeah its hard with a big fat Charr. It is supposed to be. If it was supposed to be easy, we’d all be playing Asuran mesmer and portal each other past everything.

Dont be one of them scrubs that run as the simplest/best/meta class and size just because its the easiest. Its a game, you set the standard.

Even a small charr is HM as it is the only asymmetrical race.

I play as a very big charr and I have no problems at all with camera issues in jumping puzzles. Charr are one of the biggest races though and if you are only just getting used to it after playing as a human or something else it may seem more difficult to start with but you will get used to it. Them running on four legs may be an issue for someone not used to charr, but again, after a while it will seem as easy or even more so than playing any other race.

I had issues at first with using my charr in jp’s because of height and how they run. After a bit of practice though I got used it and now I will only use charr for a jp. So the only warning I can give you is that once you go charr you never go back.

Well.. if you get used to the character jumping and position it will be fine.

Char size doesn’t matter much since 1st person come.

The position people are referencing is that while Charr jump with their front paws reaching out, it’s where the hind paws are that determine what the Charr is standing on. So you have to learn to allow for the foot area being what needs to land on the target jump spot. The trick of looking down at your character from above suffers thanks to the Charr leaning forward and obscuring the feet. It takes practice.
