Birthday Gifts
Hello. So around a month ago, some of my characters received their second birthday gift. I’m really grateful for receiving anything at all, but could you please change the rewards a bit, so I get more of the useful stuff?
Yep, there’s you’re problem. Hard to be grateful AND want more – defeats the purpose of being grateful.
Leaving out the grateful bit I can see where you’re coming from, it would be nice to receive gifts that we want rather than random gifts that offer no real value.
But…they’re gifts?
I think its reasonable to ask for wider variety, not necessarily better gifts. I mean after you receive the same thing on multiple characters it mostly loses its value. Of course not everyone has that many characters but most people have a few that are pretty old now. I would like to see things like the Experience Scroll being exchanged for, say, 5 x Tome of Knowledge.
In GW1 there was a massive part of the economy based on birthday minis. I remember that each year, around the same time, there would be another wave of minis for the oldest players. I think this should be re-introduced. I think that each year should have its own range and you get a random chance of receiving say 1 out of 5 minis. Might add a nice dimension to the market and I know that its nice for older players to be able to show off that they’ve been there since launch

I disagree. I think it’s a bit narrow minded. I’m happy that I get anything at all. But I would appreciate getting something else from time to time.

Would love to see some new minis to get for birthday.

The issue with the whole multiple minis in Guild Wars 1 however was that someone could get lucky and get a mini that could basically sell for more than you could ever spend while others got minis that were basically worthless.

I’m glad to see this thread as l was about to start one myself to express my disgust at Anet.
After receiving 7+ Queen Jennah for 1st yr birthday presents, I’ve just lost it at receiving another for 2nd birthday.
I agree with Dante, in Gw1 birthday presents were something to look forward to as a reward for years of playing. New minis, some useless, but at least they were tradeable, and sometimes a rare if you were lucky. Instead the Queen Jennah mini’s are untradeable and completely useless.
It’s beyond me to understand how the current system evolved in Gw2. Really. It’s a 3d model, it cost them nothing to reward players for their loyalty to the game. It was a gesture of appreciation and goodwill. Something that seems to have escaped the developers of Gw2. The current system is like a slap in the face, insulting and disgraceful.

Complaining about getting free things for doing nothing but existing for another year is like a slap in the face, insulting and disgraceful.
They should add a pool of mini-leaders, instead of only Queen Jennah, which drops varies with your race. Lets say, your character is a human, you are most likely to get Queen Jennah, norn you are most likely to get Whitebeard and so on. Have those minis also available with myst crafting.
Have them rotate, if you were most likely to get in the first year Queen Jennah, have the next year most likely any other leader except Queen Jennah. Either that or have at random (or pick from a random pool?) a mini rarity rare+ from all sets excluding the special or festival only minis.
Skill point scroll, should stay as there are (or get more scrolls the older the character is? 1 year = 0 scrolls, 2 years = 1 scrolls and so on having a cap of 5).
Have a change in Experience Scroll, instead of making the character instantly lvl 20, have it to 30 (since it’s now until 30 when you get your first trait, feel it would be better). Or have the same mechanic I place before with skill point scrolls but with tomes of knowledge, something like: ((your years – 1) * 2) + (your year + 3).
1 year = 4 tomes, 2 years = 7 tomes, and so on. Having it cap at either 20 or 30 tomes you can get per character.
Birthday boosters are always welcome, so no issue there.
Having new titles as the older the character gets? Don’t mind, I’m ok with just having the veteran one. Don’t want to announce everywhere how old my character is xD.
Besides that, I’m happy we are getting things as a general. Loved the gun they give at the second birthday, it is fun using it and taking it out during dungeons :P
I still need a way to burn/transmute/eviscerate/sell the 13 Jennahs I have.
And those experience scrolls got turned into key-farm runs, because I don’t make 15 characters a year that need to be level 20. I’d even take 5 leveling tomes over the scroll.

That’s a great idea. Experience Scrolls should indeed level you up to 30. Though I do hope that they change this terrible trait system. Cough
I really like the idea of using leveling tomes instead of level 20 scrolls, I have no need for level 20 scrolls but I still want to level my mesmer by never playing her. (Kind of kidding, but seriously only thing mesmers are good for are portals in jumping puzzles.

Making puns on forums is not allowed and is punishable!
Also, here’s a list of things that I would love to see in birthday gifts(And no, I don’t mean all of them at once):
- Transmutation Charges,
- Laurels,
- Some kind of endless tonic only available this way,
- Experience Scrolls that level your character up to level 30 or higher,
- Tomes of Knowledge,
- More mini-pets,
- Custom/Silly birthday weapon skins,
- Unique backpack skin(Like a giant gift, a pinata or something else),
- Some gems,
- Badges of Honour
Maybe I’m just greedy. :I
I just ask they do away with 0-20 experience scrolls and give everyone a 0-80 scroll, especially for the 3rd birthday. Seriously.
I like a lot of the ideas Yoroiookami has, but I don’t see gems being given out. Transmutation charges would be awesome. I also think that some type of unique birthday skin is a nice idea. How about a birthday hat?? Hmmm?

I demand a birthday noisemaker thingy as an instrument! XD
Well no, but a hat would be great.

You’re a terrible person, and the only thing you’re getting is coal. (So you can make steel bars to make Ascended gear. :P)
And gems. Because everyone likes getting that $20 from nana on their birthdays.

Dang coal? I guess it was only a miner offense…..
I would like a recipe to do something with the excess Jennas besides Jenna-cide though. Even if it only returned coal. XD
Bwaaahhaaaa haaaaa … “miner offense”. Good one. Good one indeed.
I had an Aunt that would give me 6 rolls of pennies that she rolled herself and an expired bank calendar every year for Christmas. When I was too young to care it didn’t bother me. As I grew older I began to resent it. I thought she hated me as my siblings always received something personal and well thought out.
Fast forward 20 years. She died and left me her entire estate. My siblings got nothing.
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Birthday noisemaker? The birthday gun not only makes a silly noise but shoots cakes into the air. What more could anyone want?
Pretty much everything in the game is transient. Gear comes and goes. New chars at level 20 or 30 are son level 80 and that initial boost is forgotten about. A special skin would probably not look as you want it or simply the wrong armour type.
Minis go on forever. I still miss walking around with my Mini Prince Rurik but as much as I love having the skin for his flaming sword I don’t have even one character who ever uses a sword. Keep giving minis but give a random mini.
Keep the rest. All i still have from my birthdays are minis, birthday guns and those sarn level 20 tokens wasting space but I can’t bring myself to delet them juuuuuust in case.
