Birthdays in this game need a HUGE overhaul. A few of my new-ish characters had their birthdays recently. And they all got the same stuff, most of it being useless for me. I received a Mini Queen Jennah and an Experience scroll that levels me to 20 automatically. Both of those were cool when my original character had her first birthday, and i was able to level another side character to 20 without too much work. But i now have SO MANY of these scrolls from all of my characters birthdays, i just trash them. None of my characters are under 20. And as far as the mini goes. I already have her. I trash it too. Only thing usable is the birthday boost. As it stands now, Birthdays are a waste of time. Nothing to look forward to or celebrate other then my own “happy birthday character!” It actually wastes my time accepting the gift cause all ill do with it is trash it. Maybe give some other mini’s and dyes. Most of my characters are 3 years old. level 20 and 30 experience scrolls are pointless. Maybe change them to just give a set amount of xp if over 20 rather then “only under level 20 can use these”

I like the XP scrolls well enough. I use them on my weekly key runner to not only get to level 10 but high enough level to get to non starter map and survive while doing a daily harvest run for that week.

The same mini for all first year presents is pretty lame though. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Yeah i suppose the scrolls would be useful for that. But i dont do that :P so they are totally useless for me. I feel as though birthdays should be a cool “HEY NICE!” thing rather then right click – destroy at least give some dyes

Just have them give a set amount of XP at any level up to level 80 and anyone can use them on any non level 80 char.

I would rather see a ap milestone rewards overhaul first. 10K or so karma is a joke and wvw items which are useless to a huge partof the game and litterally cost close to nothing. But the weapons and armors are fine and i do thank them for that. I would tho up the gold you get for each big ap milestone )every 5 to 8k ap or so.

As for the bday gifts i would swap out some queen Jennah’s or w/e else you get in all your chars for each bday (maybe a mini or a bl skin ticket?) After you get your first qeen Jennah with your first char to reach his bday.

Or have someone who would exchange a Queen Jennah mini for one of those random mini eggs that you get from a BLTC. That way it keeps to the spirit of the reward (a mini), but gives something that players can turn excess Queen Jennah’s into.

Yeah but don’t you get a birthday booster in the first year’s box too? You’re throwing away a full day’s cele booster every first year box you toss away just coz you don’t wanna throw away the other stuff individually. Bad imho.

The problem is if they change the first birthday gift (or any of the existing ones) everyone who has already had it and would prefer the improved version will complain.

Making a new character and waiting a year is a lot just to get the gift, especially if you’ve already used all your character slots and have to either buy a new one or delete an existing character to do it.

But unless you’re constantly creating new permanent characters it’s not likely to be a reoccurring problem and they have improved things with the later birthday gifts by including things you can use multiple copies of.

(Whether they’re things you want to use is another question, but that will vary between people – I can always use XP scrolls but I’ve used maybe 3 Teleport to Friends in total, whereas one of my friends can never get enough Teleports and actually put all the XP scrolls on one character and deleted him to get rid of them -we both wished we could trade them.)

Since when has the possibility of people complaining had any affect on what Anet does? People are complaining now, so how would that be different anyway?

I’d like to see them make the Queen Jennah minis Mystic Forge-able. If you have 4 extra you can turn them into another random mini. I’d be really nice if they made the birthday blasters account bound instead of soul bound.

I think the problem is that while Anet has make some great changes to the game they sometimes neglect certain aspects that are aslo affected by the changes. When the game was 1 year old and people were getting the first 1-year bday presents there wasn’t even mini storage. Each char got the mini and could have it in their own inventory and use it. Then they added the mini storage and you could put all of you Queen Jennah minis there if you didn’t want them taking up inventory or bag space. It was still mostly pointless having more than one but at least you could store them somewhere. Then the did the Minis Wardrobe. That’s was a great improvement. If you already had Queen Jennah minis in the old mini storage they’d still be there but if you get new ones you can’t add them. Now they either take up inventory space or you delete them.

The bday scrolls is just out of hand. I’ll never use that many scrolls. How about a vendor that lets you trade excess scrolls for something? I bet that would make a lot of people happy. I can’t imagine it would make anybody unhappy. If you prefer to use them that’s still an option. If they are useless to you you can trade them at the vendor for something that is. The vendor could also take other items, like the teleport to friend. Maybe for starters, the scrolls and teleports and such would also be items you could get from the vendor. If you like scrolls, but not teleports you could exchange the teleports for scrolls and vice versa. There would also be other items, not sure what, for people who down’t want either.

I definitely think that there needs to be some way to trade the birthday scrolls in for something vaguely similar but more useful. For example, 20 or 30 tomes of knowledge- which at least can be used on a max level character to obtain spirit shards, right?

I have something like 18 character slots on my main account and I have way more scrolls than I’d ever use. I dread to think what it’s like for those who have reached max character slots. The real short sighted design is that I receive them at a rate in which I realistically wouldn’t be able to use them all up (by buying more slots) before receiving even more.

Ultimately I’d prefer something even more useful than exchanging them for tomes, but I think it would be difficult to strike a fair balance or offer something that is interesting but doesn’t require a heck ton of coding.
Like, being able to change 5 of the level 20 scrolls to unlock all hero points on a character would be wonderful (sort of similar to unlocking PvE heropoints in WvW), but I can’t imagine it’d happen. I can dream though
