I’m surprised there hasn’t been any topic or speculation on this yet. The game launched on Aug 28th. Next month will be the three year anniversary of GW2. And nobody is yet speculating on what we’ll get for birthday presents? Dunno about anybody else, but I still have the first 5 toons I made within 45 minutes of launch. I’m curious as to what we’ll get besides the birthday boosters.
I think none of us are speculating because we’re afraid we’ll end up with an army of Trahearnes to go with our army of Jennahs.
Probably a second birthday booster that shoots out Queen Jennah mini’s.
They better not give us another useless level 20 scroll that doesn’t even stack with the previous year one.
There have been plenty of topics on this, they just drop off very quickly. I think after high expectations previously, there are no expectations for this year
I’m hoping for something……hot! Lol.
yeah a laughing jack in the box the joke is on us if you get my drift
As Randulf says, everyone was super charged last year to see what the second anniversary would bring. The cake shooter was fun (and apparently quite useful to those who want every boost they can get) but the community reaction was mostly “I don’t like the gift you gave me.” So now folks aren’t letting themselves get stoked.
Well the only thing that’s certain is that we get another 1 week sale. Maybe stuff like the bunny ears will make a return, a lot of people have asked for them.
Expectation:
3 Birthday boosters.
1 tome of 300 influence.
3 Exotic essences of luck.
There has been speculation on these forums, on reddit, and I’ve even seen it in map chat. I think people haven’t been very inspired by the identical rewards from the 1st & 2nd birthdays to spend much time worrying about it.
Veterans of GW1 enjoyed getting a tradeable, random mini. Well, I say “enjoyed” — those who got the low-drop-rate ones loved it and those who did not…well, they did not. On average, that probably worked out to “enjoyed,” especially through the rose-colored lenses of nostalgia.
In those days, there was tons of speculation about the next set of potential minis (heck, IIRC Gaile Gray had a user page on the official GW1 wiki just for those who wanted to unofficially guess).
We can pretty much already expect a birthday booster, an insta-L20 tome, a minor booster of some sort, and one additional item. Once you’ve seen one Mini Queen Jennah, you’ve actually have seen them all (and you certainly have unlocked the ‘skin’) and the primary reason we care about getting multiple Birthday Blasters is that they are soulbound, instead of account bound.
tl;dr I like getting free stuff and I like the birthday presents we’ve seen so far. I just haven’t found them inspiring or otherwise worth the time to speculate about.
I hope nothing.
That would probably be for the best. Then they can spend time on other more useful stuff instead of spending time on something that people will just complain about.
Well with the disappointment of last year, I’d guess a 20-lvl scroll that won’t stack with the others, a bag of spririt shards, and a mini Jennah.
I’m not expecting much; a title, a booster, and Queen Jennah.
All minipets were equally useful despite rarity.
Desirability is of course something else entirely.
Being able to sell one for basically nothing as opposed to being able to sell one for several hundred ectos makes quite a bit of a difference in usefulness I would say.
Usefulness and value are not the same thing. They all had the same usefulness, as they all could be toggled to follow behind you. They didn’t have the same value, which is completely different.
Personally I was always excited in Guild Wars 1 to get the birthday present and see what I would get. I never got one of the rare drops. iirc I’ve gotten a grand total of one green mini in all those years, and it wasn’t even a high selling green, yet I was still interested in what the next present would get me. I wouldn’t delete chars because of birthday presents.
Guild Wars 2, the birthday presents are meh and I’ve deleted level 80s without a consideration for any possible birthday presents.
I made a point of creating characters for all of my starting slots, and purchased extra, back around launch on the chance that birthdays would be handled as they were in GW1. Even so, I do not place much importance on such and so don’t really look forward to birthday rewards.
That said I also do not feel gratitude is appropriate for rewards or gifts that the giver provides in full knowledge that they are useless, or an actual inconvenience, to the receiver.
kitten . The pessimism is high in this thread. I missed the 2nd year anniversary, so I wasn’t aboard the Hype Train that derailed pretty miserably…
But this year, there just isn’t anyone on it. Well… dang. I guess we’ll just have to see. That said, something is better then nothing (looks at some of World of Warcraft’s anniversary’s when players got nothing at all.)
Probably another useless lvl 20 scroll that doesn’t stack and a new “blaster” that replaces our current buff with a debuff instead of just taking up the food slot.
Or they’ll make us repurchase the game as a “gift” for our loyalty… oh wait…
Oddly enough I think this is one situation where RNG is actually a good thing for players.
On the surface most of the GW1 birthday presents were actually worse than the GW2 ones: you knew you were going to get a mini, and only a mini. What made them exciting was that there was a whole variety of minis and you didn’t know until you opened it which one it was. And if it wasn’t one you liked (or you didn’t like minis at all) you could sell it. Early on even the most common ones sold for large amounts.
Whereas GW2 birthday presents are not random and not tradable. So after the very first one the first person gets (or you get if you don’t read the forums etc.) there is no mystery, no excitement, to them and if you don’t like it or don’t need more than 1 you’re stuck with it.
I’d like a permanent ‘Party Horn’ to toot as I wander about the world.
I’ll go for the party horn if it summons a swarm of Queen Jennah minis that attack with birthday blasters.
Probably a transformation tonic.
Forget birthday blasters. Give me a Queen Jennah in a Birthday suit.

LoL.
Nude minipets huh ?
…a 20-lvl scroll that won’t stack with the others…
So this year we will end up with 3 separate stacks of those, eh?
I joined near the 2nd year anniversary, nothing was done then to mark the occasion, I don’t see why they would this year, either.

Yes, there was 2nd year birthday gifts.

Namely:
Last year you shot the cake, this year you’ll become the cake! I expect a transformation-potion.^^

Odd in a thread specifically about birthday gifts.
I can’t forget the 5 skill points scroll. It’s etched into my brain.
They can’t pull off anything worse than that, and yet they keep disappointing me :/

It was the phrasing that made me think that. Nothing was done to mark the occasion rather than nothing was given, and that the information about the second year birthday gifts is being discussed in this thread so he wouldn’t have any reason not to know they gave something last year.
/shrug maybe he didn’t read the thread, just commented, and that why he doesn’t know about the second year presents.
I think none of us are speculating because we’re afraid we’ll end up with an army of Trahearnes to go with our army of Jennahs.
Maybe they’ll let us forge them and make a hybrid plant human baby mini

o_o no just no. That’s too far, and besides Sylvari do not have reproductive organs

No, what would be far better is instead of giving us a mini Trahearne, on that char’s birthday it becomes a mini Trahearne for the whole day, with a toggle to become Trahearne again whenever your little heart desires.
Now wouldn’t that be a great birthday present? Hordes of mini Trahearnes running around and doing WvW, PvP and PvE events. Go ahead, say yes. You know you want it.
You remember the bikini and schoolgirl outfit that existed long ago but only as an itemcode?
I always thought they would make great birthday gifts, as they could really motivate players to stick with the game. Like: “Just 7 more months until my cutest character can wear a bikini! Going to be awweesoome!”
The very best thing would be a chest that would let you choose from several different “fun” outfits.
I expect nothing. I play some games, I’m a fan of many musicians, love my family. I get the best presents from my family (home made cards, hugs, love). Musicians sometimes send me an e-mail or a fan postcard. GW2 is the only game that always remembers my character’s b-day and gives me something. No complaints at all.
We are getting:
Experience Scroll
Birthday Booster
Bag of Spirit Shards
Random mini from years 1-3 ( with all new minis for year 3) OR Super Birthday Blaster (boons last for 30m rather than 10m)
That’s my guess anyway. And I’m happy to have them what ever they maybe! I enjoy getting them, it’s a fun little surprise
Meh… I’d rather see Birthdays become account bound with your oldest character being sent the gift. Remove the souldbound off of it and make it account bound.
1) Will encourage more people to play different races an characters without feeling guilty about deleting a character. You won’t feel guilty for trashing a Charr Ele for an Asura Ele because it’s your oldest character.
2) With it being account wide it’s more personal to you as a player then a character.
3) You will only be given 1 gift every year instead of 8-12 gifts every year so that gifts value will be a little higher. People may have liked Queen Jenna a little more if they were given 1 per account instead of 1 per character.
I personally think Year 3 gifts will be along the lines of:
1 Birthday Booster
1 Mini Taimi
1 New Title “Elder” or something like that since Y2 is “Veteran”
1 New Toy or Everlasting Tonic
They better not give us another useless level 20 scroll that doesn’t even stack with the previous year one.
I had this problem, of several account-bound items in my bank that wouldn’t stack with each other until someone in my guild FINALLY clued me in on how to fix it.
Some of them should say account-bound, the others should say account-bound on acquire. Put them both in your inventory and change maps. Fixed, they stack now.
what would be nice is a queen jenna costume, it can already be done but they need to adjust it for charrs.
oh and it has to be a royal suit for male, not another tuxedo.
Rubber chicken or gtfo!

Sir. I like how you think! thumbs up

While this works for items that were made unstackable by a bug, this doesn’t work for the year 1 and year 2 scrolls. They both have the text “account bound”. In fact they’re completely identical in picture, functionality and text.
Last year = disappointment. this yea i expect nothing to change.
i lost hope in the gw2 birthday there like a kick in the balls compared to the gw1 birthdays they actually had a price to them and the more year u raked up the better and more rare the mini would be
