Black Citadel is gorgeous
Oooh! Take a leap of faith! Go on! I’m sure there’s a haystack down there!
I recently decided on a pure whim to craft a portal scroll. Seeing as how Essence of Black Citadel was pretty much the cheapest, I ended up using that.
Now I’m using Black Citadel as my trading/banking nexus… and it’s sinking in that it’s probably the most interesting city out of all of them. So much going on and it’s huge!
It’s my new home.
p.s. the view is amazing from up here. XD
Second only in bustling nature to Divinity’s Reach, it is an interesting city, but just remember the cost…
Okay, what’s with that broken stick picture?
It references a starter quest in GW1. When you first begin the game, you meet the young girl, Gwen in Ascalon which is a rich and beautiful zone. Then comes the Charr invasion and the Searing and Gwen is captured by Charr. One of the quests has you end up finding her flute, broken and symbolising what was once a peaceful, fertile land, destroyed by the invading Charr army.
The Black Citadel is built over the ruins of of the City of Rin, Capital City of Ascalon, which is visible in the first of the ops pic
And thus enda todays history lesson!

Yes, Rin was built on the genocide of the charr, at the behest of the Six Gods.

Oh snap! I was gonna post about that, but didn’t have the guts to start. XD
Now, now. This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who.
ANet may give it to you.
Charr seriously deserved Genocide, has no one played Guildwars 1 they were and still are a horrible race…
The six gods were on the right track from the start.

I see what you did there. It’s all about huge tracts of land.
Wasn’t Ascalon originally Charr lands.. invaded by the smelly humans.. o____O

Yeah. I honestly don’t like the humans in this game. They are a disease! They even humanized the gods. Such blasphemy!
Out of my 6 characters, only the last one is human… merely because I didn’t have a human character.

Quite right. Even so, there’ll be no singing in my castle!

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
People tend to forget Ascalon was invaded first by humans, and then recovered by charr, and then taken again, and again… Poor Gwen pay the price for her conqueror ancestors actions, and who knows how many charr cubs died too for their feral shamanic leaders.
That is why I don’t get people who don’t value the current truce, and speak of hate instead.
Truly, the real heros of Ascalon were Dougal Keane and Ember Doomforge: they were the only ones working for peace and life. All the rest, all those famous “generals” and “fighters”, human and charr alike, were just murderers with fancy titles.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Well OK, maybe not hero…maybe more dumb idiot…

Smarter than his father at least.
Rurik: Hey, dad- the house is on fire. Let’s get out before we try to put it out.
Adelbern: Nope.

Actually, Adelbern’s response was more like, “NO! WE SHALL SET THE HOUSE TO BURN FOREVER, AND BAR THE DOORS AND WINDOWS SO THOSE STILL INSIDE WILL BURN AS WELL! BUT NOT EVER BE RELEASED FROM THE PAIN!”
Say what you will about the Charr, but they didn’t slaughter every human in ascalon down to the last man, woman, and child, peasant and guard alike, then bind their souls to prevent them from ever reuniting with their loved ones in the mists, and instead be forced to fight and die again over and over against an invincible enemy.
