Excited about the new item for my home instance. Disappointed as to how it works. You select a material of choice and leave the instance and its mailed to you… why not just make it like the “Karmic Converter” where it’s in your inventory and you choose the material you want? Why is this a home instance thing if it is mailed to you? I love to bring my closest friends in game to my home instance because sharing is caring so you can only imagine how excited I was when I saw this new item and had to have it, but…. no one can use it but the instance owner. Yes i know the treasure box is only for the instance owner as well but you had to go through a lot to get it. Like the cloth and leather rack anyone in the instance can access it, let it be the same for the board.

SOLUTION #1:
1. The instance owner chooses what material to display on the board.
2. People that join the instance do not get to choose but will have access to the board and will get what ever the instance owner chose the day before.

SOLUTION #2:
1. Remove the board from the home instance and turn it in to an item like the “Karmic Converter” where only the owner has access to it.

I am not upset that I got the item for my home instance…I am disappointed at how it works.

This was I’m assuming in response to so many asking for a “helper” to gather stuff for you and to also maybe cut back on the afk farming around tyria. I like it, just like the enchanted treasure chest, unless you did the stuff or paid the price you can’t use it like a normal node. But if your friends own one then they could interact with it inside your home instance too I would expect. It’s nice for some of those mats you don’t always get around to farming to be supplied to you daily. Great job Anet!

These are the kinds of Gem Shop additions I like, ones that enhance my account. I’m already going into my Home pretty much every day anyway, so that part I’m good with. It would be nice to share it though.

And yes, I do realize how many of those mats I could buy with 1200 gems worth of gold. For me, that’s not the point.

Definitely disappointed that I can’t share this with friends. I should’ve done the research before buying. Would not have bought if I had done my research. Making this usable by others would take the regret away.

Comparing it to Treasure Chest seems like apples and oranges since the treasure chest is something you worked for in game and the Black Lion Hunters Board is a gem purchase. Like all other things for your home instance that can be purchased through the gem store, the Black Lion Hunters Board should be able to be used by others you invite into your home. Why change that pattern now?

In terms of daily value, existing gem shop nodes/node packages return about 5-20 silver every day. TP/BL Chest nodes deliver about 1s to nearly 19s per day, depending on which ones.

Currently, nodes on the TP range from about 120g (lowest of best buy offers) to 2200g (highest of best sell offers). It takes under 400g to buy 1200 gems (most days), so this one works out to be a on the cheaper side.

We don’t have much data on the hunter’s board, but it appears that a worst case is probably 5-6s if you get unlucky drops. Best case (getting 3x T6 blood, e.g.) would be close to 1g. More likely, you’d probably get around 10-20s, especially if you choose the higher value mats. That’s still probably better than a lot of the nodes, even if you have multiple accounts that farm.

So roughly speaking, this is comparable to other gem shop nodes in income-per-cost and likely better than a lot of the TP/BL Chest nodes. Plus, you get to swap the output based on your needs and/or the marketplace.

That said, I’m not dropping 1200 gems on it. It doesn’t offer me even 400 gems gems of convenience.

The amount of mats you get is REALLY low.

I bought one and I am disappointed by the fact you can’t share it with your guests and insulted by amount of mats it provides, given its gemstore price.

Change the way this item works ANET! Let us select the daily item it provides, and have it picked up at the sign post in the instance, instead of getting it mailed. Let guests access it too!

I can sort of understand why since it’s delivering fine mats Vs basic. And the one node/ multiple types makes sense because otherwise it overflows the home instance with pens of animals to bash for claws and teeth.

That change would make me happy with it as well. I understand why it shouldn’t be, with the mats being directly mailed to you, but it should be a collection made inside the home node. This whole idea of getting it mailed to you without setting foot in the home instance is a silly concept.

It needs to be changed. And while we are at it, make that collections treasure chest usable by guests too. The loot is pretty weak, nobody is going to get rich off of sharing access to it.

What I mean is primarily what we find in the fine section of the material storage section. Sure the T6 version is rare but the majority of other nodes we have in our home instance deliver only basic grade mats.

The first time I used it i got 1 t6 mat and 2 t2 mats…. the second one i got was 1 t5 mat and 2 t2 mats…

And it’s not about a quick rich scheme, quite the contrary, by limiting it to the player owner, it controls the flow into the TP. Last thing they need is a flood that could lower prices on the TP and if the flow is too high, collapsing the price to vendor level.

I bought this, because I like things like this, but I’m really disappointed in it.

When I first heard about it, I thought it was something where you could tell it something like “Black Diamond”, and it would deliver to you ONE black diamond per day. Or Freshwater Pearl, or Maguma Lilly, or what have you.

I thought it was brilliant, because it suddenly made for a slow but reliable source for such things, putting a cap on just how rare they could be. Prices on those items would slowly drop and stabilize, and any such item that became too rare would become the new thing people would use this for and soon the supply would get closer to the demand.

Don’t get me wrong, I like what this is (though I did expect to have to go back to the board or an NPC to collect), but it’s not what I hoped it would be. Still… maybe next time? With the new expansion on the horizon, HoT exclusive stuff is going to become really, REALLY rare soon.

After doing the math, you can see that even with an alt account, it still takes years. The BL chests take longer, actually, since those prices are affected by availability, whereas the gem-costing-nodes are always the same price in gems.

Once there’s more data, I can do some estimation about earnings from this. Based on what we’ve seen so far, if you choose to collect only totems, you can probably pay it off within a couple of years, which is about as good as the most efficient of the other nodes (BL chest or gem store). The most valuable part is: you can adjust the output to suit your needs or the market. That might turn out to make them extremely valuable on the week of major updates or expansions.

As I said above, I won’t be buying it, because it doesn’t provide any particular convenience to me. But it’s probably not as bad a deal as people fear, despite the 50% additional gem cost and the lack of share-ability.

I am still kicking myself over consuming the mithril ore node that I got in that BLC, 3 pieces of mithril a day or… 1500g. Yeah. I chose poorly. Oh well.

This seems interesting but limited. If it had a chance of getting HoT materials like an amalgamated gemstone or Maguuma Lily, for example, it’d be a no brainer, as it is I’m not so sure.

People have asked for it, but perhaps not this exact implementation. I guess, in other game(s), you can have “people” work your “home” to produce things on their own. Such as NPCs farming your fields, or doing trading for you, or whatever.

I assume if this one sells decently, Anet will add others to “improve production.”

1. Allowing ‘your friends’ will simply allow the 20 different alternate accounts the botters have to load in for free mats, ie., “please make botting easier.”

2. I am very disappointed that it is only providing about 3 items per day. Please leave this item so that it only allows the owner to collect mats, but increase the amount of mats .

It appears that you get three rolls for loot, each roll being similar to the contents of a crafting material bag from the laurel vendor. So maybe 3-5 if T1, 3-4 if T2, 2-4 if T3, etc, up to just one if T6.

Thus a super lucky drop might be three rolls of T4 totems, with 3 from each drop, total of 9. At ~18s, that would be over a gold worth.

A super unlucky drop might be three rolls of tiny venom sacs — worth a few copper. Even if you got 15, it would barely be a silver worth of mats.

(I don’t have enough data to be more than guessing here about the similarities to laurel crafting bags.)

So far I’ve had 4, 9 and 9.

  • 2 scales, 2 large scales
  • 1 Powerful Blood, 8 Weak Blood
  • 1 Powerful Blood, 8 Weak Blood

I’d prefer more consistancy with the mats. At least 1 rare per day plus misc others.

I wonder why Anet is ok with selling all of the other “nodes” in a mode that can be gathered by anyone in the home instance but didn’t want to sell this item in that same mode?

Nodes can be harvested with a degree of consistancy. A wood and mineral node will always give out at least 3 (except that darn ‘Rich Mithril Vein’), a plant node always gives at least 1. Although it is weird that we get the leather and cloth racks that give out 3, RNG not withstanding.

I suppose it’s emulating other MMOs as well as adding a little fluff that you have mercenaries heading out to help you gather mats on their own just for you.

If anything could be added; I’d like to see the occasional NPC show up to ‘check the board’ and maybe the occasional dialogue from them based off what’s being gathered:
“Mmm, more bones. The wildlife will appreciate the extra meals”
“Claws? Those stalkers won’t like that but at least I can sell them on as ‘safe’ pets”
sighs Dust. More catacombs and more ghosts! Great!”
“Blood… well I was gonna make pudding but I can always get more than I need”

I’m surprised so many people don’t see why this isn’t a shared option. It’s because one person could build a home instance for a guild (like I did) and let everyone just come into my home instance every day ( as I do) and gather everything without spending anything themselves. The cash shop, as a means of supporting the game, requires ways to make it so people can’t share the cost/burden of stuff.

Essentially if people want this they have to buy it. The game has been pretty generous with what you can share until now, but I can understand why they’d change the tactics.

Yes and because of that less basic nodes probably sold. Anet released something that most people don’t need to buy because they can farm other people’s. That practice is more widespread now than then, so they made a change that shouldn’t really surprise anyone.

Because this one doesn’t have to be harvested every day, from what people are saying you go in once, set a mat, and it simply mails you that once a day until you change it.

If it could be shared you’d only have to get into an instance with one when you wanted to change the mats which is far easier than getting into someone else’s instance every single day (plus think about people with multiple alt accounts)

all the S1 nodes that only cost laurels and 15G, they barely take a month to get even.

25 laurels and 15g translates to at least 40g of value, since laurels can purchase crafting bags that are worth between 80 to 130 silver after fees, and since laurels are a non-renewable currency (i.e. can’t be farmed).

  • Gift of Candy Corn returns 8-12 candy, call it 10, which is worth 4.6s/day before fees. It takes nearly 870 days to earn 40g.
  • Wintersday Tree returns a single Wintersday Gift. That is currently worth 8.92s in fees, 448 days to break even.
  • Gift of Quartz returns 3-10 quartz, call it 8. Each is worth 8.48s before fees, so ~68s/day. 58 days to break even.
  • Gift of Sprockets returns 6-12 sprox, worth 1.99s each pre-fees, call it 20s/day. 200 days to break even.

Regardless, the discussion has been about nodes we can buy from the trading post or from the gem shop. The question is whether the new node is conceivably worth 1200 gems and, as it turns out, its return-on-investment isn’t significantly worse than the other nodes.

Question: Does it work even if you don’t go into the instance? I mean you log in, and you’ve previously set it to blood items, does it indefinitely mail you stuff every day of the type you asked for (assuming you log in each day) or do you have to go into the home instance to trigger it each day?
