I once received a black lion key as a drop off a random mob in cursed shore. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

To survive this world you must be mad as a hatter. Luckily for me, I am positively insane.

Yes, they seem to have the same drop chance as a precursor. So … yea – you know what you got there ;D

A very rare drop. Who knows, maybe they share the same drop table as precursors. When you get one then, you’ll know you missed getting a precursor by that much.

You will get a booster and a gem store item as a consolation prize though. ^^

A key with the drop rate of a precursor that allows you to open a box with the chance of receiving yet another instant repair canister and a booster to add to your collection. Why bother having the key as a drop in the first place? ill never understand gw2s reward system. Other games that have stuff with low drop rates actually gives you prestigious stuff you can use right then and there, not stuff that will be useless to you for weeks on end.

I’ve gotten more than 10 keys from drops in my lifetime. No precursors though.

2 or 3 in almost 3k hours of gameplay. Not very common. (Zero precursers or ascended chests, so still more common than those apparently.)

For the time it gives the player a ticket or a scrap. To entice people to buy more keys for more chances.

That makes sense for all the OTHER acquisition methods. But not the actual drop from mobs.

I’ve received dozens and dozens of keys from completing the story and map completions, so I have had plenty of opportunity to know that the chests are worthless. The questions is why even bother having them in the loot table from random mobs in the first place at such a low rate as to be equated with precursor and ascended drops?

A scrap is worthless compared to the key drop rates, and you need 10 of them for just 1 out of the 19 different weapons. Basically you will be waiting a long time before you get any benefit from pulling a key. The thought of that doesn’t encourage me to buy keys, quite the opposite.

As for the chance at a ticket, putting that into perspective, pulling a key then having the key get you a ticket is like having 2 precursors or maybe ascended chests drop for you on the same day, and what are the odds of that?

Well, I’ve managed to snag at least 3 tickets since they started to drop in them and I play pretty sporadically and have never key farmed.

And don’t forget the total makeover kits and minis that are also in the black lion chests.

Not everyone does the personal story or 100% completes maps.

I’d imagine a vast majority of players do kill mobs.

3 full tickets. A bit undecided on what to do with them. Buy skins to sell or buy skins to use. Or a combination. The joys of being indecisive when there isn’t a definite right or wrong answer.

And I wish I could pass some luck on to others.

I do however feel that even given my luck with the chests, it’s not worth it to buy keys to open chests. More cost effective to buy a character slot and key farm if you’re wanting to open chets. More keys and useful items in return. Not to mention more storage space.

100% for me the other day, got a ticket the day the shadow weapons came out and got myself a nice new staff, then I thought “Hey, maybe today is my day” and bought another key and got myself a repair canister and yet another booster I’ll never use. Then I decided to waste 500gems on some shadow dyes only to get some blue rarity dyes I’ve unlocked years ago. After all this I realized I could just buy all of this stuff on the TP instead of wasting 10-25 times the amount of gold on gems on a CHANCE to get them RANDOMLY…

Anet, if I’m going to waste REAL money or convert an absurd amount of gold on gems to get a CHANCE, I want a chance at a random amount of the actual items. You got 10 new colors with a stupidly low chance of actually getting one of them when you should get one of them every single time and a chance to get more.

BL chest should guarantee you at the very least a scrap, not a chance at a scrap. SKINS are end-game, not gambling.

Ironically, I think I’ve gotten more precursors since I started playing than BL key drops (not counting those from story rewards or map completion).
