it takes about at least 50 minutes including loading time to farm a black lion key.
could be faster in a coordinated group.

create new character: human, commoner, warrior
complete the level 10 personal story

rinse and repeat

Farm keys via the lvl 10 quest if you really want/need them. 1 run can take 30-40 mins solo and a lot quicker if doing with friends. Find a guide or look on youtube they are out there.

what quest?

I don’t mind farming for the keys.

the personal story, level 10 chapter gives you a guaranteed key. People farm this. create new character, do story, level, do more story, level, do level 10 story, get key, deposit, delete character, start over. I hear one of the human story lines is the quickest/easiest. takes about 20-40 minutes depending on how many people are helping you.

Tip: You DON’T have to level up at all. You can rush straight from the very first quest and complete all quests up to and including the lvl 10 one from the very start of the game. I do so and usually finish the lvl 10 quest at about lvl 4 or 5 from all the level ups from the quest rewards.

Personally I found human, middle class story to be good for this, I found this very early on, then read on forums and saw on youtube that everyone else prefers this path too lol.

You can pre-make gear for your character to use just don’t go any higher than masterwork (so that it remains account bound). Having the Deluxe game or whatever it’s called really helps too as you can access your gear (bank) right from the start of the game.

PS, did a few low lvl quests on one of my alts earlier today and noticed there are now NO cash rewards for quests. Anyone else notice this? We used to get some good cash for the 1-10 lvl quests and now nothing. Maybe because of all the key farmers?

You don’t really need to do any of that with the gear. A mace/focus guardian can easily breeze through all of it solo.

Just to add to what people have said about ANet knowing about this. Not only do they know about it they’ve also said it is fine to do it so no need to worry bans/suspensions.

Even if you don’t care about the key, the sequence is also a cheap way to get weapons with the Aureate skins if you are interested in them.

I am baffled, after multiple iterations of rewards locked behind absurdly poor odds in chests with cash shop keys, that anyone heard that they were splitting the reward tokens into ten pieces and thought that meant they’d have better chances.

Former Guild Wars 2 fan. RIP, ArenaNet’s integrity.

eh? this means all deluxe edition accounts newly created characters will have a golem banker (5 days) ???

“Acquisition
A one-time bonus, for each new character generated on an account, provided to owners of the Guild Wars 2 Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Editions.”

this would certainly save time on loading screens

I figured ok, i have extra money in my account and i like this game. Might as well show my support. Also thinking, ’Well since im spending real money on keys, maybe ill get something good in return?" That was maybe my fault. But still though, why make the drop rate on tickets and scraps so bad on chests when the regular drop rate on keys are horrible??

It is a different problem. They must add something useful to compensate. But they add useless _ boosters, logging axes etc. When you get gathering tools for example you feel yourself cheated because “Black Lion Logging Axe” = 1 silver. While 1 key ~= 3 gold.

Hey I never said I don’t support this game. I have purchased 2k gems forthe deluxe version, an extra 4 char slots, extra 3 bag slots for 8 of my characters (yes I said I bought 4 chars, 1 I use for key running so I don’t buy bag slots for that :P ), I have fully purchased all the extra bank pages as well as bought costumes etc.

I am not against buying gems with real money as I have done so plainly. I am against “gambling” or such when it comes to real cash. In this day when people are struggling and we try and make every cent that we have get used to the fullest or for the best; anything along the lines of “pay and pray” for something is just not in good taste imo. Offer your things straight up for a strict cash amount, it’s just integrity.

I mean other games go as far as to offer things like mounts etc to entice customers to spend cash. Heck I used to play Perfectworld and they would charge crazy prices as $50 U.S for new mounts when they came. If Anet REALLY wanted cash or needed it so bad they could go down this route as evidence shows people DO pay crazy prices for such things. But gambling……just no, lol.

More like 19-30mins. And playing it with friends doesn’t usually speed up the process, their loading times slow you down most of the times, especially when you use kitten and your friend doesn’t.

Yup, every alt made gets the bonus of the banker as well as the accessory ring thing. It helps slightly.

Depends I guess on playstyles and latency and all that as well as knowing what to do. Some bosses just take a while to go down so I would think it’s faster with an extra person or 2. I run on a guardian usually with premade wep/armour all with power attached to it and at lvl 4 it can take a while to kill a boss or two lol.

Then again maybe I usually just want to end the ordeal as quick as possible.

Well don’t make a guardian then :o
Warrior is the best imo, the first bosses you really need to fight alone are still in the levelrange where you can stack bleeds and those help a lot .Use the F1 skill as soon as you have level 1 adrenalin because the amount of bleeding stacks don’t depend on the adrenalin level. The sword leap is also a really good way to move faster

OP learned a lesson why it’s not a good idea to buy those keys. At this point I’d rather consider it a protest against putting the weapon tickets / scraps behind random gating. Others don’t have to agree, but I’m against it.

I agree. I’ve been burned with this, and it’s ridiculous. Put the tickets up for sale in the store (leave the scraps in the chests as well so people who don’t want to spend gems can still get skins albeit at a slower rate), and I’ll buy as many as you like. Seriously. I would spend a lot of money on these things … yes, the option is there to buy at the TP, but 50g is a lot, imo, and it also means someone else has had to go through the task of doing something I’m not willing to do myself. Just put them in the store already, lol!

The simple fact of the RNG store is that you are always better off exchanging gems for gold and buying what you want from the TP.

If it’s not available on the TP and it’s not offered directly from the gem store then forget it.

This goes for black lion chests, mini packs, and dye packs. I’ve tried all three at some time or the other over the past 8 months and have always been disappointed.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I found this vid, shows you how to do it in 25 mins, tested, worked a treat. follow it to the letter. don’t deviate from what is shown and you will be farming keys most efficiently.

Progress blocking bugs are top priority, but not all bugs are so easy to fix as others, be cool :)

Stop falling for RNG boxes and over time you will see the weapons come down.

I’m actually impressed with what you do get from the average box, compared to other MMOs. I tend to reserve my key activity, I “reward” my toon with a block of 5 keys at level cap, when they do go on sale (which they don’t seem to often. call it a little RP oriented fun. Everything I got has been useful, and I made a few gold off of minis and such.

But then again I treat it like a very special reward, not a casino experience. That in my mind is what gets people upset, that they fall on the down side of the RNG goddess and don’t want to take the blame and move on.

Next time they go on sale I have some gems waiting for yet another toon. But that anticipation is what lures me, not any expectation of anything more than some buff tokens. I guess you should ask yourself if you are a scratch-off addict. If you are then check yourself, if not then carry on.
