Black Lion Keys from map competion?
The last week I’ve been on a marathon to finish off a bunch of zones for world completion on a couple of my characters. I cleared 11 zones and got nothing but Transmutation Stones. Is this simply a case of rng kicking me in shins (certainly possible)? Or have the keys been removed from the list of possible awards for map completion?
I’ve too been working on it over the last week. My results are the same.

i got 1 black lion key from a WvW map completion recently.
however, if you want non gem store, black lion keys, it is faster if you farm with with a free character slot.
human commoner warrior.
you can get one black lion key within 50 minutes or faster depending on your skill and luck. could be faster if you get a few people doing it together.

It’s not that I’m wanting Black Lion Keys, it’s that I’m not wanting Transmutation Stones. I’m approaching my second full stack of the things, and since all my characters have long been level 80 they’re completely worthless to me. I’ve been hanging on to them in the hopes that Anet will add a Transmutation Stone → Transmutation Crystal MF recipe, but I’m not holding my breath for that one.

Tonight I completed Caledon Forest with one of my alts and got a BL key for it. They drop, it’s just one of several rare items.
I got a key recently from map completion. I didn’t even know they were included as a prize for it.

That is a brilliant idea. The Mystic Forge thing. Would give us something to do with all our low level transmutation stones.
I don’t see why we need two different transmutation stones in the first place though. It just feels pointless to me. Why can’t we just have one for all levels? It makes more sense then this whole 1-79 stone, and a level 80 stone. It just seems ridiculous to have two when one would be more convenient and better.
But it seems like they are a rare drop now than they were before (the keys, not stones). They want people to use the cash shop, so they lower the drop rates on these things so people will spend more money.

I got really lucky on my mesmer, received keys for almost every zone I completed a couple months ago. Then I made my engineer. :P I don’t think she’s gotten a single key for any zone she’s completed in the past month.
I’m also on my second stack of transmutation stones with absolutely nothing to do with them. I really wish they would add a forge recipe for them.
My wife and I complete zones relatively frequently (I just got world complete on a second character) and we get keys about…this is a guess…30% of the time. Most of the time we get transmutation stones. I’m pretty sure I even got a transmutation crystal once, before they were called crystals.
