So I had 5 spare black lion scraps in bank, and I rather liked one of the new skins on offer. So I bought myself 10 lion keys and went at it… I got 2 scraps from 10. Thought this a little unusual because pre-winter, black lion scraps were quite common.
I figure I must be unlucky, so I buy some gems for another 5 keys, and make up the difference using gold to get another 5 keys on top of that. This time I got 1 scrap from 10 keys.

3 scraps from 20 chests. Did they recently nerf scrap drop rate or am I missing something?

It’s kind’a bummed me out massively and at this moment I don’t even want to look at the game.

I always grab scraps when new skins come out, and I’ve never been this horrifically unlucky with scraps. Ever.

Edit: Even before they buffed the drop rate.

I’ve always disliked that the Black Lion weapon skins were locked behind the RNG gate. I’m sure I’d have bought more of them (and thus more gems) if they were simply on sale for a fixed rate. Needing to play the RNG game to get them is simply not fun.

Which is why they are tradable and thus can be bought on the TP. No RNG involved.

Whelp, if RNG is going to be such a bad joke on what’s supposed to be a fairly common drop, guess I’m buying no more keys.

Reality is that you’re better off to buy gems, exchange them to gold and then just buy whatever skin you want off the TP. In the end you’ll come out WAY further ahead.

Good idea. I support that. BLKs is nothing but in game gambling. If you are not prepared to lose don’t buy them.

The Black Lion company remembered that and screwed you this time.

No really its rng, you were lucky before and not so lucky now.

What you’re missing is that you were lucky before. Heck, some would say that you’re still above average for the drop rate.

Welcome to the real nature of the Black Lion Chests, and kiss that money goodbye.

Edit: Check out the Pact Fleet Survival Pack. You can only buy one, but it has 5 scraps in it, no gamble.

For perspective on the RNG:

My guildleader gets a scrap every other chest and a ticket every 7-8 chests.
I get a scrap every 9-10 chests and a ticket every 40 chests.

From what I’ve heard 1 scrap every 4-5 chests seems to be “average” or “normal”.

To clarify. I play blackjack at casinos from time to time, but only with money I am willing to lose because the house always wins. I’ve lost hand after hand and I felt I must have been unlucky. So I increased my bets (usually after several free alcoholic beverages) figuring I was due. Guess what, bust, bust, dealer wins with a 19 on my 18. Next thing I know I’m down another $1,000 because I was trying to win it back. That is the way it works my friend. Just because you think you are due doesn’t mean you will get paid. Main lesson, don’t buy BLKs unless you are ready to lose.

At least with casino gambling I get some entertainment value, meet some cool people, comped a room and some dinners.

Clearly the problem is you suck at blackjack and should always assume the dealer has a higher hand. Either way rng is not fun, its a cheap way for anet to get more money out of you when there alit of people who would gladly buy the skin flat out before prices get kittenedly inflated, i am one of those people.

I hate lockboxes and other rng sinks. if I see something I like on sale in the gem store I’ll buy it if I can afford it. but I’m not going to pay blindly for a pot luck container in hope that it just MIGHT be something I want. same reason I have none of the special dyes, I liked quite a few of them. But if they want me to buy limited edition dye packs at least garantee me I’ll get ONE OF THEM, rng for which one is enough, making it less than 50% chance to get any limited edition dye instead of a normal dye is just trolling on Anet’s part.

25% chance on scraps, 2% chance on tickets, it’s that way since scraps were introduced but with some exceptions when drop rates were increased. It means about every 25 chests you get a ticket. Which means 2100 gems if you purchase 25 keys in bulk. As it’s random the number of chests varies.

Some people claim they have got a drop. It’s indeed as rare or even more than a precursor.

The 1 issue that I have with the whole key concept is that they ENCOURAGE you to spend REAL money to get them and then they end up being another form of RNG.

Yes, you can buy the skin. Still the keys are a dodgy business practice.

my average is 1/2 per 5 keys, so I need like 25 keys for 5-10 scraps.. which is really bad in my opinion considering you pay money for them.. or a lot of ingame gold. Maybe they should remove the normal drops, or move them higher in the PS to stop the farming altogether and make the drop rate above 50%

In an ideal system, you would get BL ticket scrap per key, but ANet is gonna be ANet, you either buy into it or you don’t. I bought 25 keys lastnight and got 2 scraps. Its really not worth buying them. You’re better off converting the gems to gold and buy T6 mats towards building a precursor or stuff for ascended mats.

My personal experience, in 4100 hours regarding drops (not forge rate)…
Exotics: Maybe 10
Black Lion Key: 1
Precursor: 0

In between exotic and precursor rate, check! :P
You will get some from map completion and story though, so I’d say their rate is truly in between exotics and precursors if you’re comparing every way to get loot.

Really, the only solution to this, is for people to stop buying the kitten keys already. It sends a better message then using message boards. I am sick of this gambling crap too. I would buy the skins if they just sold them straight out, but this non-sense has to stop. “Just buy them off the trading post” is a band-aid excuse to a serious problem to the game. I do not know if has to do with the “Nexon” influence or not, but its not acceptable practice.
