Black Lion Ticket Scraps... Are Common?
For me I bought 5 keys and got one common scrap….this will definitely take a lot bl chests to get those weps. Good thing theyre not going anywhere though
Just think of how many keys you’ll have to buy later on, after the two weeks sale of just 1 ticket per weapon. You’ll need 5 to get a weapon, which means 50 scraps, and since they aren’t a guaranteed drop… yeah this way is so much better.
Please give us a keyring…
Although the amount of numbers so far doesn’t really say much about the statistics. But my biased kitten opinion is that the notes should really say the chance of getting scraps are “uncommon”.
The scraps directly replaced keys in the loot table, so the scrap chance is exactly equal to the free keys you got before…
I have had 5+ BLC’s in a row with keys in before and I have also had loads of BLC’s without any keys so there you RNG, you can be lucky or unlucky…
This is Anet we’re talking about. “Common” means 1 in 100,000 or so

Not exactly.
Most key drops have been replaced by Black Lion Ticket Scraps.
So they actually have a slight lower chance then what it was getting a key.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that by “common” Anet means “Rare” and by “Rare” they mean “Forget it”.

Yes, I suppose but keys are now rare, so probably doesn’t make a big difference…
Anyone looking to make a profit by selling the skins, should take the plunge early because in a few days/a week, it will balance itself out pricewise. This means in a week you will be able to buy a skin at true market value with no RNG.
So the speculators can take a risk to make a quick profit…
The RNG haters just need some patience and avoid the RNG entirely without paying over the odds…
I had 12 keys in my bank, got 1 scrap. I’m not buying keys, and I not exploring maps any more, so I don’t think I’ll open any other chest… ever.
used 20 keys and only got 2 scraps. might be best to wait for event adds more to the chests .

Yeah, I’ve noticed that by “common” Anet means “Rare” and by “Rare” they mean “Forget it”.
Ya I think that ArenaNet does need to re-think their rarity levels to communicate more effectively on what to expect. I would call greens blues, whites, junk, and crafting mats common.
I would classify the scraps as un-common however not rare. I got keys frequently enough before this patch when I did open up the BL Chests.
If I was in to paying for RNG I would probably limit myself to 20 Black lion chests. If 10 scraps is the minimum. That would be about $25. But I generally don’t care as much for cosmetics. The actual probability rate of getting one item is closer to spending $30-60 bucks

Don’t spend real money on this. Seriously. The only reason RNG continues is because people keep buying gems.
People really need to stop buying black lion keys. Maybe then we will get to just buy the weapons instead.
I thought I read that most of the keys you get out of chests were replaced with the scraps. keys were like 1 in 4 chance.

Not having the time to check in game or what not, so let me get this straight:
1. Ticket SCRAPS are found in black lion chests, which of course means u need the keys to open.. Even so, ticket SCRAPS are a chance drop, so let me repeat again, the SCRAPS are RNG based???
2. So aside from winning it by RNG in one or so of the living story activities, the other option to getting it is once again in through ANNOYING, SILLY way ala Jade dragon skins, is by FREAKING GEM STORE CASINO AGAIN?
3. Please tell me theres a non RNG related way to get these weapon skins….
What a step backwards. And they were doing so well with the Kite fortunes previously. I’m sorry devs, i will never ever ever again spend gems for RNG chance to get stuff, not ever since that debacle that was the Rich Dragon coffers.
15 chests : 4 scraps.
Possible key cost 200g for 10 scraps.
TP weapon cost average 50g.
The sytem rewards RNG more then people actually using the gem shop.
I think ur doing something wrong Anet…
Okay, either I’m extremely lucky or something because I bought a 5 pack of keys, had 20 chests built up. I wound up with 2 Black Lion Claim Tickets. I thought this was suppose to be a rare drop?
Wound up getting the skins for the long and short bow…

I think unless more than half the people around are getting this kind of luck, then its likely you get super duper very lucky. I think most people will still spend an ungodly amount of effort and money before getting one.
Don’t spend real money on this. Seriously. The only reason RNG continues is because people keep buying gems.
Remember when developers tried to sell not in-game items, but their game?
Sigh.
10 chests opened, 1 scrap
Last time I waste money on this game. I’ve had better luck with chests in Atlantica Online and that game is the definition of RNG cash-shop.
Why is it so hard to just sell the skins directly?
Well at least we have a idea of what the drop rate should be
Most key drops have been replaced by Black Lion Ticket Scraps.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest/Drop_rate
Do depending on what most means I would guess the drop rate should be about 20%.(This seams to match up with the results in approximate).
That means that in 20 chests you should have got about 4 scraps.
So to get a total of 10 scraps you should be expected to open up about 50 chests.
Cost of key is about $6 for 5. That means that one weapon would cost about $60.
That means that the items in the trading post should cost 180 Gold.
Want to prove the RNG is bad. You can help in the drop research data. Fill in your data there.

I don’t know about that. Though, what I do remember is when Anet sold skins directly with no RNG involved and they sold a lot of them.
I guess they found a more efficient way of farming their customers for money.
It is money grubbing tactics like this that I refused to participate in. If they sold it outright I would buy it no problemo.
But spending a trillion dollars for a chance at getting some items to spend on one item I want is complete bullkitten.
I don’t really understand why this is such a shock to everyone.
Not everyone in the game is meant to receive every skin that comes out, ever.
If it is a common, sure, many people will eventually get’em. If it’s stated as rare, it means RARE.
Adjective
(of an event, situation, or condition) Not occurring very often.
As in, not everyone should have it. If you decide to take the chance and throw whole bunch of money at it, and then don’t get it, why would you blame ANet for it?

Funny you mention that. Y’know who was in charge of the monetization department in AO when it turned into a complete scam? Crystin Cox, who was ‘voluntarily hired’ by arenanet and put over GW2’s monetization just after NCSoft bought out majority shares.

The topic of this thread is exactly that. As stated in the patch notes the scraps should be common, not rare.
Thanks to our fellow contributors above, the term common meant 1 scrap in every 5 chests. (Though in my case I got none from 10 chests.) With that more positive/fair outlook, 10 scraps = 50 chests = 4500 gems = $56.
I love the game and have bought large amounts of gem to support it, the biweekly efforts are very reassuring and fun. With that said, $56 buys a new well-funded game – here, $56 gets a weapon skin that is in essence still chance based, and the chances are split into scraps and then labeled common: honestly, that in itself seems a tad too misleading.
Some might say, “don’t but it then”. I believe the issue is from the distributor, it is beside my point whether if people continue to purchase or not.

As long as the masses keep falling for these tricks, we’re stuck with the RNG antics. :/

Can we start with just 1? I haven’t been able to get a single weapon skin from these events since they started. All because I don’t have the funds to spend $50-60-70-80-100 dollars on a kittening skin. It wasn’t because my performance in the game is bad, or not because I didn’t play enough to get the proper amount of achievement points. It’s simply because I didn’t spend enough real money.
And I know for a fact I’m not the only one in that boat. So please stop defending Anet on this. They don’t need it or deserve it.
P.S. I had 1 key and opened 1 chest and I got 1 scrap. It’s a shame that I won’t be able to open any more chests. It’s basically a slap in the face because I’m never going to get 10. And 50 is completely out of the picture.

I’m really surprised RNG chests in MMOs have not been made illegal. Currently, they are just using a loophole in gambling laws. Sooner or later, this should be shut down.

You’ve been able to get 95% of the skins with a bit of gold or time. So please stop needlessly bashing Anet on this. They don’t need it or deserve it.
Plenty of other things to be mad about :P

I think it’s really difficult because most places gambling really only refers to money alone and since Anet/NCSoft doesn’t allow in game items to be traded back to real money (only allow the other way round, and indirectly) it is out of reach of most gambling laws.
But.. didn’t I read somewhere a few patches back that the aussies are considering putting the gambling label on GW2? I can’t find the link now :S

I am more mad at people defending anets blatant money grabs than I am at not being able to get any weapon skins because for the most part they’ve all been ugly. But that’s beside the point.
It’s just the approach they are taking to monetize this game compared to how they did it with GW1. In GW1 you knew what you were getting and exactly how much you were going to have to spend. In this game it’s designed to get you to spend more and more money and them preying on addictive behavior of their player base.
At least in GW1 they were honest about the money grabs. Here…not so much.

More RNG rewards, you’d think they would kittening learn but no they don’t.
The Bazaar was good because you could earn the rewards rather than just relying on RNG.

That’s not really true, in most establishments you buy chips and use them to gamble. You don’t think the house would actually trust the weak suckers they prey on to hand the money over after the fact do you?
It’s pretty much exactly the same system as buying gems, markers that are equivalent to real money, you trade the markers back if you win, they keep the money if you lose the markers. That’s not the loophole that games abuse, the loophole they use basically states that if you are guaranteed to gain anything at all for your money, it isn’t considered gambling, even if you’re guaranteed to get worthless junk.

I don’t really understand what you are saying. chips in casinos are meant to be traded back to real money whereas in this game you never get any money back anyway. You used your money to buy virtual items. What these virtual items actually do (or don’t do) in your virtual world is not really governed by any RL law.
either way I don’t support gambling

Neither do I, but it is the same thing if you’ll allow a short example.
Buy chips>Gamble>gain and trade your chips in/lose and have no chips to trade in
Buy gems>Gamble>gain and trade your ticket in/lose and have no ticket to trade in
It’s exactly the same thing, save that with gems you are guaranteed to get something, even if it isn’t what you were aiming for and is completely worthless. I wonder if Casinos could get around gambling laws if you were guaranteed a worthless prize when you lost.
Bought 10 keys for gold. 1 scrap. i am not wasting any more gold on RNG bullkitten, sorry.
the difference is casinos give you real money in return when you win, in this game even if you win you still don’t get real money. In terms of the RL monetary outcome your money goes into the toilet no matter what when you buy RNG boxes, no odds on that. It may or may not make sense but that is how it is working.
lol I just found out that these weapon skins are not account bound. Lets farm the heck out of the candidate trials and flood the markets so everyone can have cheap skins
I thought I learned my lesson with the Secret of Southsun boxes, but no, I had to be impulsive – 50g converted to gems netted 10 scraps. Shame on me, Anet.

10 scraps right now IS a skin though.
No one will get a “gambling” label to stick, that is why the RNG items are in chests, instead of a straight lotto ticket chance.
The argument is that you received the value for your purchase.. the “normal” chest content, with only a “chance” at an rng item. No different than a coke bottle cap with a prize code. You bought the coke, not the prize.
In most games you will find the RMT “rare rng” items will be bundled this way, it avoids most gambling ordinances.
I’m legit disappointed in Anet with all of this. I’ve spent money in the game in the past, I spend a lot of money in fact.
I spend money every single month… but 60 dollars to buy a weapon is just unreasonable.
Even more so that in 2 weeks they’ll cost 50 scraps to get… that’s 300 dollars.
Did you get that? 300 dollars for one weapon.
I’d rather buy a PS4 than an in game item for that money. This is unreasonable beyond belief.
Maybe they should do something like this:
Every box drops atleast 1 scrap up to 4
And make the price for skins to 20.
This way everyone who uses the gamble chests has a 100% drop for a scrap AND possible a way to get the scraps fast.. This way the player is satisfied to get 20 scraps for 20 chests OR maybe even in 5 chests! IF ur Lucky.
But now.. 15 chests and just 4 scraps.. and now i am out of gold again. Now i cannot enjoy the new content because i have to farm gold..
I know that the chests are random etc but out of the 15 chests i got 1x a quagan backpack that i sold for 4g.
Also! This is important!
The big coin bags from the chests.. Why dont they scale up?!!! The price for gem is alot atm but the big coin bags are only giving away 2-10 silver lol…
Scale the bags up plz
the game sosts 40$
Game expansions costs average 20-30….
Then we see that people would accept 20-30$ for a weapon skin.
That is why i prefer expansions….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
lol I just found out that these weapon skins are not account bound. Lets farm the heck out of the candidate trials and flood the markets so everyone can have cheap skins

Incorrect, the coke has real world value even if you don’ turn in the bottlecap for the prize, it’s a bonus to what is already a purchase. Gems are a currency with no real world value except in what they can be traded for.
If you don’t ever trade them for anything, they aren’t worth anything. And all you did was waste money.
