There isn’t a single backpack in game you can dye, the wings are not an exception.

As for the size I tend to agree, but wings would need to be massive to carry a humanoid creature, if they went for realism, that’s probably why.

can you dye any other back item ingame? no. Why would wings be exception? What you see is what you get, don’t qq about it, they implemented a preview button for a reason.

You don’t even have to preview it, you could just go to any populated area and look around… I agree it’s a pretty gross backpack, and over-sized on every race, but you could easily have discerned all of these things before purchasing.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich is why the wings look the way they look. This Outfit was added to Guild Wars 2 as well for Halloween, but it were missing its wings. They had a preview sale on them before next Halloween when I expect the Raiment of the Lich Outfit to be on sale again, with the wings available separately.

As the others already pointed out, you can’t dye any backpieces. The only things you can dye are chest, shoulders, helm, gloves, boots, legs, and (I think) underwater breathers. As for the size, yup, they’re huge. You can preview any skin in the game in your Wardrobe beforehand, just so you know; then you’d know if an item is too big for your liking.

Good. I hate wings in this game…you can’t fly.

I’ve seen a handful of players who seem to suit these and to them I apologise but overall these are the latest cool “shiny!!” and I’ll be glad when every second player isn’t running around with them.

It makes it something you should already have known if you have played the game for any length of time before you bought the wings.

Have you been ingame lately? I think Anet has never ever before sold anything with such numbers. Wings wherever you look. So they must pretty much have a feeling what the majority of ppl like. Sorry for you that it doesen’t fit your flavor. But don’t demand things that the majority apparently pretty much like a lot.

Reposting WITH GOOD FEEDBACK BECAUSE ITS IMPORTANT

the wings arent dyable not only because its a back item but also its a fast and easy way to make money. look at glints gaze headgear. it should be dyable, its armor part. but no, because they can release the same item multiple times with different colours. this is bussiness my friend!

So what, because I can see 10 ppl in a row with wings I am supposed to shut up because “majority” likes them? I can say whatever I want, I am a customer, a disappointed customer, and I want to be heard. If you’re satisfied, that’s cool. I dont care.

@ Op, as others have already pointed out…

- Don’t buy the backpeice or w/e from the gemstore without previewing it first, it’ll save you the headache. (Right-click on item to see the option)

- You can’t dye other back pieces in-game, and you never could. And they are not part of your character’s body, so obviously the won’t flap – simply move according to your movements.

- See what was said above and repeatedly throughout this topic
(cannot dye back pieces)

- The devs already made dyes account wide, dying parts of armors/outfits have always been free. How else are they supposed to make money to push out newer/better/quality items if everything has to be free? Put yourself in their shoes and think of it from a marketing standpoint before complaining about it all.

- Also flying has never been in this game, the closest thing if free falling, or gliding which will be introduced in the expansion. And flying would pretty much make map travel pointless, sure the view would be nice but.. just no.

- Lastly, as mentioned early on.. the wings are the missing part of the Raiment of the Lich costume. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
The devs didn’t throw this out on the gemstore just for the heck of it. People wanted and repeatedly asked for the black wings to finish the costume, and it’s what they got. If you were ever curious about how it would look on any of your characters, go back to the top of this post (preview).

The Mist Herald backpiece is the same, can’t dye it. But how come there wasn’t this much back-lash?

Theory:

For the Mist Herald backpiece, people knew you couldn’t dye it (as is true for all backpieces) and thus chose not to purchase it based on this because they saw the flag color and it didn’t go with their look so they stopped their (most people—I’m sure people bought them simply because it’s kinda cool in WvW I suppose). I remember many comments like “man, if you could dye this flag I would buy this skin!” I’m sure their sales weren’t so hot on that backpiece.

But here comes some wings and common sense goes out the window. It’s like people saw wings, saw there was only 24hrs to buy them early, threw money at their screens and then had buyer’s remorse afterwards wondering why they can’t dye them, and why they aren’t more realistic.

Don’t buy things on impulse. That’s what they want you to do. And if you do buy things on impulse, don’t complain about it afterwards because it’s kind of on you at that point.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Others have commented on the fundamental incorrectness of this statement, but I have one question for you:

What did you think the word ‘black’ in the product name meant?

This seems kitten backwards to me.

I can’t be the only one who is thinking this.

I agree:

  • I think the wings are the wrong shape and size and don’t scale attractively; they seem especially large for asura.
  • I don’t like the color and I don’t like that I can’t change it.
  • I also think the animation is unattractive.

Accordingly I didn’t buy the wings. Best non-use of 500 gems this month.

Put another way, I agree with the essence of the OP’s criticisms. However, I don’t think the post was phrased as constructively as it could have been.

Isn’t there? I think the seller is obligated to refund or replace what you bought in the shop in the short period of time after transaction (depending on country)

Naw, mostly not for in-game digital purchases. (Although it turns out that ANet will sometimes refund gem shop purchases. I suspect it’s more likely if the person buys gems with cash, which seems reasonable to me.)

The ‘purchase’ for GW2 is when you buy the gems, not when you use those gems to get something in-game.

The laws for purchases in a video game for buying pixels, which also may have been bought with in game tokens (gold), may not be the same as the laws for buying real items with real money.

From what I’ve seen on other posts, if the person bought the item with real money they have a good chance at getting a refund. If they bought it with in game gold, they don’t.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

The problem with refunds of cosmetic items like this, once it’s in the wardrobe it can’t be easily removed. So someone could buy it, put it in the wardrobe then claim they want a refund. Once they get their refund, they can wear the item as much as they want as there is no way to send it back or ANet to take it from them.

Since there is a chance of fraud of this type, ANet of course, will want to be conservative with its refund policies. They do normally allow refunds, but limited in time and not for gem purchases with gold.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Static is something i wanted for a while and it’s AWESOME.

Only thing that i agree with you is, please let us paint backpacks, that’s all…
Other stuff i don’t agree with your, personally wings are all i’ve every wanted on my other classes. My ranger uses Rox, other classes black wings, I ove it!
