So what happened with black lion key drop rates. Back in september they dropped a few times a day. I started playing again a month ago. got 2 new characters to lvl 80. In this month i’ve got 300 black lion chests. and 2 keys…

Really anet?… 2 keys for 300 chests… Why is this?

EDIT: 5 keys = 450 Gems , 50 keys = 4500 gems, 300 keys = 27000gems
=>> 870 gold… I don’t make 870G a month u know… & i only found 2 keys in this month (which is even lucky).

EDIT: It would cost me €330 to open my chests =S What the…??

They never dropped a few times a day unless you were the luckiest man alive. Seriously, get in a L80 zone and loot a couple precursors with that luck.

After release i could unlock all my chests just perfectly , it was perfectly balanced, you get a few more chests than keys, but with the chance of finding another key inside the chest, i was always able to unlock them all. maybe i was super lucky, i don’t know, but it was like that.

If they dropped this well “ever” I’m pretty sure the gem stores biggest money maker would be out of business lol

people weren’t 80 yet around the time i’m talking about. it was the first 3 days of GW2.

they’ve never dropped from loot for me, and i’ve clocked 1.6k hours now. All chests I’ve gotten were from personal story completions.

u mean, all keys? yeah, i didn’t know they still dropped either. Until i got one a while ago, 2 weeks later, i got another one. none since then.

Can confirm black lion keys do not drop. 550+ hours. You can get them from daily or storyline rewards.

I got one from a nightmare courtier about two weeks ago. I flipped out because I haven’t had one drop for over 1k hours.

They do drop, just very, very rarely. I think in my 1800 or so hours I have had one, or at the most two drop. All the others were from story step completion, from inside BLTC chests, or having purchased them.

They drop. 1400+ Hours about 4 keys from farming. You can also get them from story if you really want to. My first key actually came at around 900 ish hours I think.

I have received a key as a drop a long time ago, but that was the only one I ever got as a drop.

Every now and then a key drops, but it was never possible to unlock most chest you got, not even remotely.

3-4 in the first few weeks, about that many (2 in the past two months) for me. Over kittenests in my inventory… Don’t know why I bother!

I can confirm they do drop. They have been more rare for me lately, but across all my characters, I have had probably 20 or so keys drop.

They do rarely drop. I think I have had two drop since the start of the game. They did drop a lot more during the beta weekends.

RNG is RNG.

Our Guild Leader had one drop this week… I think he’s still in a state of shock 3 days later..

Not had any since before Karka iirc as loot. I don’t have a huge issue with a low drop rate considering how much business they prob rake in on the gem store, but I’d like 1 or 2 to drop in game as well every now and again

How about 1 key for doing monthly ^^

Would probably have to be a lot, Anet still does need money for expansions etc. Maybe 10 laurels or 20. You could get at least 2 a month then. I’m sure people would still want more though lol.

Uhh, to all the people calling BS on him, they in fact did drop a couple a day back at launch. I think ever since I started playing again since around Feb-March, it has only dropped once.

I got them fairly regularly in the first few weeks/months of this game’s life. Sometimes I’d even run out of chests, especially since chests seemed to have keys inside of them most of the time. Now? Never see keys.

You might get one every 1000 kills or so. You definitely get one completing your level 10 personal story mission. You might get one on a map complete.

So what I’m guessing is that y’all remember your freebie at 10 story, maybe a map, and are calling that “a couple a day”.

One definite thing I’ve noticed, there are more dye and key drops in low level areas than in level 80 areas (the joys of being an altaholic…keep having to go back there). However, even in the low level areas, you’re still not going to get to a couple keys a day.

I have had 3 black lion keys drop for me in last 2 months from standard roaming enemies.

first 1 or 2 months of playing, I would find a key about once every 5-10 hours from random mobs. at some point they cut back the drop rate (I have no idea – but some time around jan I realized I hadn’t got one in a while), and now I’ve found maybe 2 in the last 5 months.
map and story completion is about the only way to find them now. I’d estimate you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting one from completing an area.

black lion keys were designed to make anet earn money. you are supposed to buy using credit card. you eventually get some only to have a taste of what you can get. anet is like a drug dealer. they give you a fix here and there till you start buying.

I have had 0 drops in about half a year now.

You’re probably talking to people who played 15-20 hours a day in the rush to 80, they probably got 5000 kills a day…

I can count with one finger how many times I have gotten a black lion key as a reward since the game launched. I even remember when it was. I was doing the halloween dungeon when a mob dropped it. I was like..wth I haven’t seen one of these drop since beta! And now I haven’t seen one drop since then.

~So yeah I feel the drop rate is pretty bad, you probably have a better chance of getting a precursor drop than a key drop.

I’ve only had one black lion key drop and that was on the second day of the head start, and I have been playing some what daily since then aside from a month or so break.

Except they do. They’re rare, but I and a few friends have gotten them from mob drops before.

They drop from the gem store :-)

As a player with limited play time, I have not found one ever outside of personal story quests and so on.
Had around 300 chests at one point, but I sold them for a few coppers…

They got nerfed along with all other drop rates. 0.0001% chance and only on a fool moon when the stars align and only after captain planet is summoned by the planeteers.

I have a over a thousand hours of play time in GW2. Do you know how many keys I have seen drop? None. The only ones I have received are from personal story rewards.

using a spare character slot to farm them would be faster.

I’m sure I’ve gotten some key drops but for the life of me I can’t remember but really would it be that terrible for my keys to be dropped not like you hardly ever get anything great from the black lion chests granted there are some big ticket items you can get only from there but the drop rates of those are so low that one chest opened a month will probably not get you it. Hell I’ve gone and made a character did the story missions all the way up to lvl 10 story the one that gives the black lion key as reward. I’ve done that atleast 10 times I’ve only gotten 2 black lion salvage kits and 1 of those random mini things I also got keys but really just primarily got my random boosts after all the black lion tools I don’t find to even be a benefit I don’t even notice the difference between them and the orichalcum tools.

I agree on human can’t remember if i played commoner though I did the one that had you (SPOILER i guess)

Hide in the cell at the end and wait for the corrupt guard or w/e to come and free you and then you jump out and kill her and her like 10 or so minions. I liked ranger with the linx pet the might buff it gives is pretty nice I’ll have to time it but I think i did faster than 50 minutes

I dropped 3 ….since then i don t see any difference.

Only thing they nerfed clearly are fine trasmutation stones (crystals?) that used to be in daily….

I have a level 12 character that is the proud owner of three keys. He doesn’t have any chest though. They’ve dropped from somewhere but no idea where.

In my experience, they drop more on new characters. I’ve had two in the past fortnight, and both were on an alt I’ve been re-rolling.

I got a chest key from one of the guards in the lvl 10 commoner story right before I got the key reward, so 2 in 1. Got nothing decent from both chests though.
