Well it’s official, a few weeks ago on my warrior I was getting BL keys every 2 maps basically now on my guard, I got 1/8 so far. I haven’t seen any “notes” about it but its pretty evident that they wanted to nerf map completion even further so BL keys are that more rare I guess, such a drag.

I’ve done map 100% 8 times and to 60-70% twice more. I never got that many keys. It’s usually the T charge and maybe a key every 4 maps or so.

I don’t know the rates of keys. But I do have map completion on like 24 characters.

I don’t know if they nerfed the key, but it is pretty normal to get 1/8 keys.

RNG is RNG. There was no nerf; you just had a luckier streak a few weeks ago than you’re having now.

i would not say that so fast . i gotten 2 key,s today from doing personal story and in the last month i gotten a number of key,s from doing personal stories . so i would say it has not one thing at all to do with this rng stuff you talk about what ever it is . its not reall . just do personal stories and you get key,s . that simple and easy not like we are trying to make a new video game here or some new content :P

personal story is a different thing from map completion and has lots of guaranteed keys at certain points.

How many maps did you complete on your Warrior? How many keys did you get in total? Across what period of time?

How many maps have you completed and how many keys did you get on your Guardian? What period of time was that?

To get anything close to a statistically significant sample you’d have to have done basically the entire world on each character within the same time period, one before and one after the point you believe the drop rate was reduced.

Even then it’d be a small sample and (assuming the drop rate wasn’t changed) not at all difficult to find someone who got exactly the opposite result at the same time.

All of which means there’s really no way you can tell for sure, unless you’ve got recorded data from multiple people showing a significant drop in the number of keys (not the pattern – i.e. 1 key every other map – the total number of keys for the number of maps you did) there’s no way to draw any conclusions.

And if multiple people had noticed a drop in the number of keys they were getting over the last few weeks we’d have a lot more topics about it by now.

So your personal experience has become fact? Everytime I’ve done map.completion I’ve gotten between 5-7 keys. Doing it slowly with my rev and he’s on 2 keys out of 5 maps so far. In my experience that been about average for the drop rate of them.

I’ve got 6 toons that have done full map completion.

When my first toon was doing map completion, I managed to get about 1 BLK per 2 non-city maps (50%). Since then, my other toons have seen a rate closer to 1 BLK per 20 non-city maps (5%). I’m not sure if the formula gives a boost for your first time doing a map, if there was a stealth nerf, or if I just have hit a horrible stretch of RNG.

The key rate is more like 33% key for a map completion 67% is trans stone the wiki also noted this based on one full 100% of all core maps.

As someone else already said, the PS rewards are completely different from map completion rewards. You are guaranteed a key for completing specific PS chapters. You are never guaranteed a key for map completion; you have the chance of a transmutation charge or a key in non-city maps. To sum up: PS rewards aren’t RNG; map completion rewards are.

Someone started to report that it was one in two and go do Southside Cove to farm keys but I never had keys drop at that high of a rate since the very early days of the game.

OP was lucky and the rumor about key drop rates is just that.

I have 100% on 10 characters and at least half done on two others. There has been streaks of keys and no keys. Currently on a nice streak of keys. 12 VB completion and around 9 keys. During this same time period a friend has been getting no keys.

I’ve been getting BL keys about 30% of the time from my map completions.

The rest of the time I get transmutation charges.

Has this been in the last few weeks? Because your right that is about the rate I was getting them as well till of late.

I do map comps to lvl alts to 80, then do cursed shore map comp, PS to lvl60, LS2 #6 (key reward) delete and start again. This is a nice mellow grind for me if I’m not in WvW/pvp for keys and low to mid lvl mats. So I do map comp all the time.

I noticed that in the last few weeks I haven’t gotten a single key from a map comp. In total 15 and 0 and that only since I started to notice and counting, so there might be a few before I didn’t count.

So if anyone is getting about a 30% key drop for map comps in the last few weeks then I’ll just chalk it up to the worst run of RNG I’ve had in awhile. But I’m kind of inclined to agree with the OP that there has been a nerf, intentional or otherwise.

Would be nice if Anet could jump in here and confirm one way or the other.

Yeah, that’s been since HoT, but your 15 maps and no keys seems really low. So, I’m not sure if there’s been an overall nerf and I’ve had good luck or if you’re having really bad luck.

Yes, it would be nice for ANet to comment, but it’s also 8:40 Saturday night for them and I doubt the ones who would know are reading the forums.

I’ve noticed that keys seem to have stopped coming from map completion for me… Granted, I haven’t done it as much nowadays, but…

Sorry, one person’s experience across 8 maps is nothing close to official. Across my few characters that completed maps, one got 7 keys out of 25 original maps and another got 17. One key in eight doesn’t seem at all unusual to me.

I cleared five maps this week and somehow received five keys. It’s all RNG.

I hope BL keys are not designed to encourage me to actually pay money for them.
So far I have had crap, rubbish, toilet, pointless and mediocre.
If my character was rolled with an invisible -10 to luck, fine, but I’m still not going to pony up cold cash for what has been nothing but disappointment.

Or £11 for a glider that would look ground breaking in 1996. Yeah, that’s a no too.

So you getting very lucky in the past with your warrior leads you to the subjective impression that black lion key rewards were nerfed?
