Today I’ve spent at least 8 hours doing verdant brink event farms and only one of the maps managed to get tier 4.
Why is it exactly that the Bladed Coat Box is the only one from the set that can not be bought from the vendor? and must instead be acquired through hours of farming, the RNG wall and the tears of the innocent.

So yeah, it would be nice with some “other” hint hint way of acquiring the coat box <3

Simple game design. To ensure content has legs, that content needs compelling rewards. The bladed coat box ensures that peple, even years down the line, will have reasons to populate verdant brink.

It’s the same logic that went in to the map rewards system for core tyria (which could still use a little buff IMO) or the orr karma vendors, or the silverwastes stuff, etc. They want to make sure all the content has enough longevity that it doesn’t become totally desolate when new stuff comes out.

If you have to play a specific piece of content to get a specific (optional and cosmetic) thing, it’s much more likely that even years after that content is “old” people will continue to play it, even new people to the game.

they could have just made it cost 1000 airship parts then. ive been playing Verdant brinks non stop since the game launched because i enjoy the map, and while getting multiple maps completed havent seen a bladed box. I have 1,758 bladed gears on me however, and the only piece of that armor i even like is the bladed coat on Charr.

Basically, despite doing the map non stop i cant get the thing i want ^^ I dont see why it wasnt added to the merchant anywho, to get it you have to play the map, right? So years down the road if people want that coat they will have to go out there and do the map anyways, right? you cant get it on the other maps, only that map, so to get it, play the map. Right now though it takes alot of work to get it to tier 4, and getting a box with blues and greens…and more crowbars(i have 400 i dont need more) sucks, it isnt rewarding, and its already gotten a bit tiring trying to organize the events >.<

Also: these threads need to be merged into one thread, theres like 4 of these threads open at the moment.

Yes, but people will be farming parts, not doing the meta event. They designed these maps around doing metas.

Also keep in mind a lot of people are still exploring, doing masteries, claiming halls, etc. Soon that will calm down and I’d wager you’ll start seeing a lot of zone specific LFGs for stuff like this.

Unlike the silverwastes release, people aren’t all funneled in to one place right now, they have lots of options, and many of those are personal goals that seem more achievable so people are going after those first. When that calms down a bit, though, many will be in the same position you’re in “man, I want that bladed chest” and they’ll start hammering LFG and organizing around it.

People also said triple trouble or teq would be totally dead by now, but people run teq every day in multiple instances, and every time TT rolls around there is usually at least one zone LFG.

I read in another thread you can get it from a PvP track. I’ve not looked into this my self, as I’m still trying to get level two to access the vendor.

It really doesnt matter, i want a non RNG way to obtain the thing. 10 maps now that have full tier 4, sure doesnt seem like alot, but the chance to obtain the bladed chest for people who have crap luck is horrible. Thats what this is about. There are players who are just bloody unlucky when it comes to RNG and they could do this event every single day and never see that chest drop for them.

And by doing events, you are doing the meta event. You are progressing the meta event each time an event finishes, and to spawn the airship cargo chests you have to do events. I dont care if they make it cost 2000 or more, but at least offer a non RNG way to obtain it for those who have terrible luck with rng.

Another thing, after doing the meta event 10 times, full tier 4, with 200% participation and getting nothing more than a handful of blues and greens, and some more crowbars, its turning into a waste of time. Its turning into another silverwastes back when i needed the chest pieces for the Lumi armor.

Only difference is, the challenge of some of the mobs with my current build is keeping me entertained, when that runs off though, ill be out of the map, im not going to do a meta event that takes about an hour and get nothing, i get better loot from doing tequatl.

Well, I mean, I want a free legendary and to have all my guild hall upgrades complete instantly, but I also realize that if I got all those things it would be pretty darn bad for the game. I want that teq mini that I’ve done teq probably a hundred times trying to acquire.

The function of RNG is specifically to randomize the accessibility of rewards. Anet isn’t unfamiliar with the concept by this point. They’re very conscious of what rewards they want to tie to specific effort, and what rewards they want to tie to random chance.

The very thing you are complaining about is the very thing they designed the system to do. Encourage you to keep doing it until you get what you want, or give up. When you’re repeating that task over and over, you’re improving content for others. When you give up, you’re improving the prestige value for others.

Whether you agree with rng based exclusivity or not, it is a firm fixture in this game (and many others) for certain items for exactly those two reasons. In this game it is exclusively tied to cosmetic rewards.

I get what you want, but I also get why it is the way it is. I really want that coat too. However I’m also pretty okay with the method of acquisition on a personal level.

I wouldn’t complain if you got your way, but I’m pretty laid back about this sort of stuff in general and cool with it either way. Good luck!

I personally know ill get it in time, but there are players who just dont have RNG with them, and thats what im personally about!

Anyways! Back to the game with me!

It’s kind of like the Silverwastes event, when the carapace top came out, & the new living story came out, you could acquire the top from the story if I’m not mistaken.
So eventually, you’ll be able to get the bladed top from a new living story episode??

If not, then imo grinding shouldn’t be trying to get an armor. The bladed coat drops too less. Achieving T4 does not ensure you will get this armor, which I’ve actually given up on trying to get- 8 T4 maps, 200% completion on almost all & no bladed anything? Yes, I’ve given up.

I wonder if you need itzel leadership. It says you can challenge their enemys champion and earn a daily prize. Maybe the chest comes from this as the other pieces are sold by the itzel.

It’s pretty bad game design. You need to rely on others to get something you want, because many times maps don’t even get to tier 3 no matter how hard you yourself try.

Now here’s the catch. Not even the RNG, but the fact that it’s simply out of your control. You can of course try to organize a map but maybe others would like to do their hero point/mastery unlocking. Maybe they want to explore the map or do adventures or harvest flax seeds or just admire to jungle.
Why would you want to stop them from doing their stuff to work for you to complete tier 3?

Even if you end up organizing a map that does reach tier 4, it’s still only a chance for the box.

Not to mention that people like Verdant Brink as a map (for now) but if they spend endless hours trying to get this box, they’ll end up frustrated and finally leave with a “never coming back again”.

How is this good for anyone? Anet should seriously consider an optional way to get the boxes.

so can you only get it as a drop in VB or u can get it on all the new HoT maps? and do you have to do events and hope u get it at the end?

It is supposed to have a drop chance from the chest that you get for completing tier 3 of VB.

Has anyone actually confirmed that it comes from the VB meta chain? Last I knew that was pure speculation, and no one had gotten it at all.

Guys the biggest problem is the fact that you can’t get it without having a tier 4 map and even then it is RNG.
Yes my dream scenario is that you could buy it from the vendor.
But the problem is that through my eight hours of farming I only had one chance at rolling the dice, since it is very unlikely that you will get tier 4.
What they could have done was either to make it a 100 % drop rate at tier 4 or just make it so that each tiers increases your chance of getting a box when the timer is up.
You also have to think about that it is not just one time you will have to get the RNG gods on your side, but a whole three times if you want the achievement/armor sets.
And this is not a legendary, it is a piece of equipment on the same level as the Carapace armor set.

I’m all for the fact people have to work for stuff, but this is just out of hand for a piece of exotic armor, from the first map.

It says on the tier bar, that at tier 4 you have a chance at the bladed armor box

Wait, there is a tier 4?
I haven been playing on that map since like 4 days ago, each time a full day and night cycle and I’m really really surprised there is a tier 4. I’ve never seen it go above tier 3.

So I hope they give this to a mastery vendor, with double the requirements. As it stands now, it’s only going to bleed out as even less en less people will try to get as high as possible.

I’ll wait till they patch it. Half of the content in this game isn’t even played. It’s a shame the artists put so much work into the mechanics and visuals, only to not be seen by more then half of the player population.
(after 4 days of playing I only got to see the matriarch Wyvern, and once the hardest part commenced… poof no one around anymore. That doesn’t bode very well for the future…)
