GW2 blocking system is unique to say the least – in other games and MMOs ignore command does what it says and filters out all chat from the person you want to ignore.

One of GW2’s idiosyncrasies that has never been fully explained after two years.

Apologies to those who may find my posts on GW2 forums offensive and hateful.

I haven’t blocked anyone accept for goldspammers but they have never whispered me or something else since I block them.

So I dunno what you mean realy. Dosen’t The block/Ingore work? Or how does it work in GW2 compared to other games Ignore? I just wanna know since if I block someone in the future I would want that one blocked and Ignored.

You sure you’re blocking the right person? It works fine for me.

Blocked people will still show up in map and guild chat. I am not really that petty to take notice but its one of a few things that Anet devs seem to resist doing for the sake of “socialization” such as the dragging of their feet over the LFG tool.

I can´t say anything about guild chat but map chat works fine for me regarding blocked people.

Blocking stops you seeing what people say in /s

But not in /e

That really needs to be fixed.

I’ve never had a blocked person show up in map chat. But the last time I blocked someone, it was the gold spam epidemic.

I had a blocked person in my party and did not see what they typed, do not see them in map chat or say chat. Not really sure what you mean.

Perhaps its only guild chat atm. I just remember a lot of LA’s “banter” went on after I blocked some people – maybe its not the same people I blocked.

Another thing – some people I don’t block for chat at all, some for being super nubs or noobs who refuse to communicate at all. I wish I can put them on separate temporary block lists as well as the chatters apart from my permanent kitten list.

Usually I lean more to the “elitist” side of arguments, but I have to say, you lost all sympathy there. Why not have an autoblock of anyone below 3000 AP for you or something like that?

Blocking generally doesn’t work. A blocked person can still have:

- Emotes appear in your chatbox (and we all know how easy it is to harass people this way)
- Visible comments in guild chat
- Access to your whereabouts (they can see which map you are on despite being blocked)
- The ability to join your party in a PUG setting

It’s the equivalent of having a locked door in the middle of a wide open field.

Of course they’re still going to be able to join a party you’re in. The other 3 haven’t blocked him. That leaves you to try to kick him, rage quit or grow up and accept the fact that you can’t hear him but you can still kill stuff together.

I sometimes block people for not being able to read as well.
