When I block someone, can they still read my messages in map chat? If so, why?

I’m having a daily quiz show in Lion’s Arch (German language), and sometimes there’s people who troll you and shower you with expletives. I block the worst cases. Still, they seem to answer my questions even after I blocked them, because it happened several times that I announced the first correct answerer and people post that the blocked person delivered the correct answer even before! How can that be when I blocked them? Why are they still able to read my messages?

Is there something I don’t know? Some secrets to blocking I should be aware of?

Blocking is only one way, for whatever reason.

Yes, people you block can still read your messages. Why? Because they haven’t blocked you. I dunno.

If you can afford a commander tag, I’d recommend forming a squad for large chat-based events, and use /squad chat instead of /map chat. This way, only people who would like to participate will be able to read your messages.

GW2 gave me countless opportunities to be amazed. Positive and negative ones. This is a negative one. I’ll never, never, understand why it’s one way only, and I doubt the reasoning behind it can be explained in a plausible way.

And thanks Rangelost, interesting idea. It wouldn’t be an open, accessible-for-all event anymore though, and it’d be even more work and multitasking than what there already is

What’s really “great” about it, is that someone can block you, but then proceed to send you harassing whispers until you block them. Isn’t that nifty?
