I’m sure this has been brought up before, but Bloodstone/Empyreal/Dragonite stacks are taking up insane amounts of inventory space, mostly because they drop in large quantities and there aren’t that many uses for them.

So why not implement a way to reduce the stack sizes, like you did with the essences of luck? Now some of you may argue this is already implemented in the form of bricks and stars, but that takes 2 obsidian shards and 10 thermocatalytic reagents per craft. What we really need is a way to clump them in larger units without the use of other components.

Here is my suggestion, exemplified by bloodstone dust:
Allow us to craft 100 bloodstone dusts in to a bag of bloodstone dust (which is also a stackable, depositable crafting material) and change the cost of a bloodstone brick to 1 bag instead of 100 dusts. Alternatively, allow us to craft 250 dust in to a bag and make it stackable. Upon unpacking the bag you receive 250 dust.

Another alternative is to just divide all the drops and requirements by 10. So instead of getting 30 (example, don’t know the actual number) dusts per dungeon and needing 100 per brick, you would get 3 and need 10.

Also a photo of my stacks to prove that the struggle is real :P And I’m sure there are many people out there, who have even more stacks.

You could refined them. There also the collection size expander its up to 750 i think. As things stand blood dust can be used with the new back item that eats it for rng items and you can use it to craft a number of consumable items. The other 2 items there is nothing so far.

I’d say put them in the account wallet like dungeon tokens. Refining is too expensive and the collection expander only temporarily solves the issue.

Well, as I stated before, refining them costs more than just the bricks, and since I’m crafting a legendary, I cant just waste money and obsidian on refining them. The collection size expander costs real money and would hardly even do anything, the back item is really expensive to craft.

I would really like a way to just package them together with 0 expenses, like essences of luck, because it currently feels like something you would find in a freemium game to convince you in to buying more inventory slots.

Mawdrey can still be made, which takes care of the bloodstone dust.

The star was available during wintersday if you did the quest, which eats the emphryeal fragments. Unfortunatly anyone who didn’t get it will probably have to wait until wintersday comes back around again.

The dragonite ore doesn’t have an item for consumption yet, but if we’re lucky something will come up soon.

Have you had any moments where you look at the market reaction to something you consulted with and said to yourself “I done kittened up”?

Bloodstone dust. Nothing like checking numbers after a meeting to see how much something has increase and there’s 10 more digits than you were expecting.

10 more digits!? Holy Clam Sauce Batman!!!!!
Thats quite a bit.

Other than Mawdrey, have you considered another Bloodstone dust sink? Maybe some new recipes or something?

Also what about the global economy ramifications of making Bloodstone Dust, and other ascended crafting mats vendorable?

I would be less concerned with the global economic ramifications than the fact that adding a vendor value isn’t an elegant solution, you should get something for that material that isn’t 2c, because 2c never feels good and just adds to the money supply.

edit: double post for forum formatting

Not a terrible idea, but as John said, it’s an inelegant solution. Plus with so much of it around, it would certainly add a bunch of coin into the economy. Even at 2c per bloodstone dust, I have at least 1000, thats 20s. And there are lots of people who have tons more than that just chilling in their banks.

I used to have this same problem. Until, you know, I discovered you can in fact refine them. It costs 15s for reagents and 2 bloodstone shards (4200 karma). 100 mats now become 1.

What you are asking for is in the game as you already know since you mentioned it. It sounds like you would rather deal with a full bank than to spend the small investment of money and karma to free that space up.

Making mawdrey was a great investment. You get a ascended backpiece and also the ability to transfer bloodstone into something less useless.

However, I recommend against refining all of them for the sake of keeping them because the reagent thingies cost quite a bit and also use up obsidian shards. You’re basically paying an average of 35s per stack + 5000 karma to so you can store trash. This is a ripoff and I do not recommend carrying more bricks than you need ascended armor. I understand that some may be afraid that it’ll be useful in the future, but honestly, when it’s hindering yourself right now when you could be doing more useful stuff like maybe investing in stuff with actual value and filling your bank with those instead.

You’ll most likely not be able to use it all anyways unless you are rich and don’t mind keeping all the space.

I just delete my dragonite personally. It comes too frequently. Mawdrey and Star take care of the rest. I have like 1.5 ascended armor sets and a half dozen ascended weapons. Have just enough bricks/other stuff to finish the set or to make another weapon or two, which I don’t feel the need to rush. I’ve never been like “wow, I don’t have enough bloodstone dust left!” As a rule of thumb, I do not allow more than 3500 units of any (combination of individual dust + bricks which count for 100) t7. It simply gets deleted.

I just wanna drop this for @AnrenaNet

I’ve just made my ascended armour, and i’ve figured out how much ascended materials we get every day. There is no logic behind this and currently ascended system is pointless.
You wait 24 days to craft all bolt of damask needed for ascended armour, and that’s the only barrier that we currently have things that I would change:

- add all ascended grinders/crushers for every kind of ascended material
- limit two bolt of damask per day
- drop less ascended material derivative by 10, dropping them every where in this huge amounts is stupid. In one day, you can get enough material for full set..
- make it possible to sell ascended material to vendor

Conclusion: We get way to much material that we need for full set of armour. Crafting armour on your own takes in average of 24 days(because damasks) and amount of ascended material that you get in 24 days, would be enough to craft 15-20 sets just from that. @ArenaNet has to reduce amount of ascended material drop, or give us option to get grinders/crushers to convert full stack of ascended material into random sellable item/material. Grinders/Crushers should be easily to gain them through short quests, reason: abnormal acquire of material.

@Draknar.5748: you have bad way of thinking, we get way to many ascended material. In fact we get it tons more that we can spend. It’s pointless to fill your space or bank with 100 bricks of material if you only need “hand full of bricks” to make a set or weapon……………………………………… and turning huge amounts to bricks is consuming a lot of gold for those who don’t pve daily.

Wish I could get back to GW1.. PvP-GvG. It feels like we are outcasted, not desired or rewarded..

however, it seems like the recommendation above is: If you can’t use it right away, then delete some of the rewards (ascended mats) received from completing game content…

or rephrased, assign no value to ascended mats that are readily obtained without farming in the following ways:

dungeon run = empyreal + dragonite
wvw point captures = empyreal
world bosses = bloodstone + dragonite
champs = bloodstone
jumping puzzles = empyreal

I’m just keeping ahead of the bloodstone and empyreal intake by sending them to Mawdrey and the Star of Gratitude. Being able to get rid of 200 of each every day is a blessing in disguise. I’m totally hanging out for a dragonite eater. I throw out a stack pretty much every night. I used to convert them to ingots as soon as I hit 200 but I’ve not got a big buffer of ingots to make vision crystals so I’ve got a lovely surplus to feed my eaters.

I’ve been doing a lot of silverwastes and hardly any of the WB’s anymore because they’re just not interesting any more. At least in SW there is a chance at failing the event that makes us pug-manders try that much harder to herd it towards success. Naturally the result of that is more dust, more fragments and more ore >.<

I’m not saying it’s the best system they have, but you have the means to reduce that space. There are two options: 1) spend karma, some money, and 30min to refine them all or 2) start deleting them. As you said, you get way too much, and I certainly agree. You have to get past the urge to hoard them all in your bank if you honestly feel you will never use them, or likely won’t use them.

If you feel you may one day use them, then start refinin’!

So I saw the biggest issue with the bloodstone and not getting rid of it, is time.

It took me the full month to do, farmed -everything- too. Stuck around Orr for a while, did the bosses while I farmed the wood (that gets rid of all those stacks of mining tools we got from winters day too). Any time you’re waiting on Jormag, chop up all the trees in the area to get the foxfires, etc, eventually you’ll have all the parts to put together.

it’s worth the time, and you can sell all the excess junk you get while farming pieces. Most nights I rarely play for an hour.

Exaclty. Are you going to store a large quantity of low level gear in your bank because you will make a new character someday? No you are not. Why? Because it can all be very quickly and easily attained at any time. So why would you do the same with these mats. Like you said EVERYTHING but PvP gives Ascended. Why hoard it when its everywhere? And yeah, I can vendor them for 4s, but I might as well turn around and say you can just toss away the dusts and such, because it’s basically the same thing at that point.

The choices are:

1) Feed mats to Mawdrey/Star/[Trogdor]
If not possible:
2) Refinement
If not possible or too expensive:
3) Ascended Mule
Shove them on one mule, 20 slots free and upgradable to at least 40 very cheaply (5 slot coloured bags are minimum vendor value) or 100 at greater expense else:
4) DESTROY
If you’re getting a constant stream of them and not doing 1 or 2 just destroy a stack or two to free up space. Plenty more will roll in, right?

These mats are only used to make; Mawdrey parts, Ascended mats and in Bloodstone’s case; miscellaneous boosters. Use them or toss them.

Gotta love it, lets introduce an insanely expensive, time gated item just to get rid of the hundreds upon hundred upon hundreds of absolute crap drops you get bombarded with. Yeah Mawdrey can go suck a fat one. I’ll continue to delete them thanks. Aint nobody got time for that.

It also serves as an ascended backpiece. And it’s not “insanely expensive”. And you’ll get a tiny return on your bloodstone dust from this point on once it’s done.

Actually it’s most likely the cheapest ascended backpiece (with selectable stats), if you don’t decide to skip the time gating (aka. not buying grow lamps, pots and plant foods).

I’m all out of bloodstone now, actually.

I figure they’ll add something for dragonite. One day I’ll play my Engineer…

This looks just like my engineer’s backpack, right down to the 100 dyes and 77 clovers . Could they be related?

I just wish items like Mawdrey II didn’t give garbage, it’s barely worth using them over just trashing the stuff. Instead they should have made it so that you could refine a few items with a lower or no additional cost per day. (I.E. With 2 obsidian shards and 10 reagents, Mawdrey could eat 500 dust and poop out 5 bricks a day)

Oh, I’m happy with the trash it gives … actually I’ve got several of the trash collection items on my second account out of it .

Other than that, by now I’ve gotten three lesser vision crystals, a giant eye, some lemon grass, maybe a dozend unidentified dyes, a good selection of other useful items, and a large stock of basic t4 materials like linen, leather or wood (by opening all the gifts on a lvl50-ish alt and salvaging the equipment). I certainly wouldn’t call all of that garbage.
