What can I do to give myself the best chance of finding these suckers?

Go to a map where you know lots of that type of animal spawn and start killing them. A bloodstone crazed one only spawns when a normal one dies, so if you simply wait for it to appear you’re counting on other people actively searching.

If you look for the normal versions and kill them yourself there’s a much higher chance it will spawn and it will be right by you when it does.
