From the patch notes on July 28:

“Significantly increased the number of times characters can mine bloodstone nodes each day, but changed the cap to be account-wide.”

Could someone expand on this for me? When Bloodstone Fen was first introduced myself and a guildmate were running bloodstone nodes. At that time, it seemed that these nodes were respawning at the same rate that standard nodes on any map do. When the mithril nodes on Bloodstone Fen would repop, so would the bloodstone nodes. There was no reason for us to switch to alts to farm these nodes because they were already more than plentiful enough.

Since this update, bloodstone nodes do not seem to respawn until reset. As an example, yesterday before work I ran through Bloodstone Fen and did the usual map dailies, ran events, and harvested from all the nodes I could find. Went to work, came home and logged on about 14 hours later and none of the nodes had respawned except mithril and palm nodes.

My question, then, is what exactly did this change to the node behavior do? If the nodes repopulating at the same rate as mithril/elder/etc was an unintended bug, and if it wasn’t intended for players to be able to swap to alts to farm these, then at what rate were they “significantly increased,” and in what way? Are players supposed to get more strikes on each node now? If so, that isn’t happening on my end..still only getting three strikes per node (sometimes four, if you get a bonus WvW strike or have a booster active). Are the nodes supposed to repopulate more often? Are there supposed to be more nodes on the map?

Personally, I’m not seeing any of this, and it seems as though all bloodstone nodes have been set to a standard 24h timer to repopulate only at reset like rich veins or farms. Any insights would be appreciated!

It’s a public relations statement. It is a nerf to bloodstone gathering (for people who were doing it on multiple characters). But, they say it in a positive way to make the average player excited about possibly getting more bloodstone.

I only gather on one toon (the one with my unlimited tools). And, despite their “positive spin” on the “increase”, have noticed I am getting less nodes (and thus less bloodstone) per day.

Previously you could only farm 6 bloodstone shards per day per CHARACTER. After 6 all nodes were replaced by mithril nodes on your character.

After the patch you can now farm 30 bloodstone shards per day per ACCOUNT. Now you get a lot more but it is account wide, so people with more than 5 characters can’t farm faster than everyone else.

For 99% of the players in this game it is a buff. 1% of hardcore alt farmers were nerfed.
