So back in November, the Ancient Karka ruined my life by giving me Zap. Had Zap not dropped for me, I doubt I would have bothered with a legendary. I consider myself too casual for something like a legendary. But you know, I was handed a Zap and thus began my legendary journey.

I do not farm. No speed runs, Orr farming or whatever or flip TP, which is why I have only recently managed to get Gift of Fortune and Gift of Mastery. So I am now stuck on Gift of Bolt.

I don’t have 100g (at the moment) for the 100 rune stones or the Gift of Lightening. I do have the Rune of Air and Gift of Metal.

For the Gift of Lightening I have the Gift of Ascalon but far, far from enough charged lodestones, grossamere or orichalcum. Although I am not too worried about grossamere or orichalcum.

However, if I were to sell my Zap and buy an Energizer, my money woes will disappear and I’ll easily be able to make the Gift of Moot! My hang-up there will actually be needing to get CM tokens for the gift of Nobleman for the Gift of Entertainment. But that’s shouldn’t be too difficult.

But should I switch to Moot or stick with Bolt…

Moot would have to go to my Guardian, who would pair it with her Fractal focus. Bolt would also go to her but technically, Bolt could also go to my Ranger or my Thief. But I do consider the Guardian to be my main and besides, she was the one who looted the Zap from the Karka chest.

I should also explain that guardian hasn’t used either sword or mace for a very long time. She currently uses hammer or greatsword for melee weapons. So I have no preference per say between 1-h sword or mace. I am sure I could make both work.

My brain is shagging under the weight of changes… having six characters was not a good idea!

Ok step back and take a deep breath. You are thinking way too much and it pains me to think that you actually feel that this is a legit problem that needed the forums attention.

Just do what you want. If you want a lightning sword get bolt, if you want whatever moot offers, then get moot

If I were you, I would just cash-in and forget about the legendary, for now. You said you don’t farm and you’re a casual, so it might take a big commitment for you to see it thru the end. Also, it sounds like you were forced to work on legendary because of the drop, and not something you planned all along.

PS. I’ve never use a mace on a guardian(as a main weapon), or any of the 8 classes I have. I might just be forgetting though.

It’s something that’s weighing on my mind and I thought input from the wisdom of the crowd would be nice.

It’s true. Legendary was not on the “to do list”. But I while I don’t farm I do, do dungeons. Most of my money and stuff came from Fractals, which I enjoy very much. I also like doing Crucible of Eternity. So if I had to go on with Bolt, I would do more Fractals and CoE. But thing about that is one Fractal run or one CoE run = my entire play time most days. I don’t mind but it does mean no more dailies, monthlies and maybe sacrificing doing living story stuff. I mean, I haven’t been running Fractals recently because I have been doing Living Story.

So yeah, Bolt mean weeks of not seeing anything outside of Fractals and CoE. Moot = I am done with legendaries within a week, two at most.

If you enjoy doing other stuff rather than just running CoE and fractals just get Moot if you like the look of it and you would use it.

There is no feeling quite like the feeling you get when you thwack someone upside the head with a disco ball, accompanied by the sound of fireworks.

Personally, I hate the Moot with a passion. It’s way to silly for me to consider it of legendary status and its effects aren’t that interesting. If I had to choose between the Moot and the Bolt I would choose the latter as it has a cooler appearance and much better effects.

That being said, if YOU like the Moot and don’t feel like investing the large amount of time into the Bolt then go for it. I’d recommend comparing the two weapons on YouTube to see which you like more. If you’re going to sell Zap you might want to do it sooner than later as Anet intends to make precursors easier to get this year (how much easier I do not know).

Probably about as easy as buying 300-400g worth of mats off the trading post and flushing them down the mystic toilet.

Thanks for all the answers guys! Bolt is very elegant but Moot is awesomely tacky. RL, I would go for Bolt 100% of the time. In-game I could be an awesomely tacky guardian! Anyway, I’ll think about it some more. Thanks again!

Bolt is vastly superior, imo. And I say this as a mace/shield guardian. Ultimately, I decided to go with the Bifrost (not remotely helpful in solving this dilemma, I know) since I almost always have a staff equipped and couldn’t justify making a legendary I’d almost never use (Bolt). Likewise, I can’t stand the Moot. It’s hilariously tacky but that doesn’t go with the look I’m trying to go for. That and I just couldn’t justify spending all that time and gold to make what pretty much comes to being a joke weapon.

Anyway, I’d make whatever you think you’ll use the most. Otherwise you could go through all the effort of making a legendary and have it end up collecting dust in your inventory. Legendaries are meant to be flaunted, not stashed away in backpacks and hidden from view.

Neither Moot nor Bolt.

I have a Guardian, too. Greatsword and hammer play VERY differently from main hand sword. Hammer is a bit similar to mace, but it feels like you would want the Moot because it would be easier, not because you really want it.

I would suggest trying to play with a main hand sword, and, unless you REALLY have lots of fun, sell Zap and wait. ArenaNet will make Champions drop Lodestones, which will make them cheaper; and players will be able to craft precursors, which will make them cheaper as well. Since you already have the Gifts of Fortune and of Mastery, you would then be able to get whatever Legendary you want, including the greatswords or the hammer,

Cash in because new legendary’s are coming. It’s a guess that they will be something you like, but they are suppose to be easier to get.

You are a casual player. You don’t farm and don’t have a lot of gold.

So my suggestion is to sell Zap now and save that money for when the precursor scavenger hunt/crafting comes out.

You can even use those funds to purchase the other mats, such as lodestones.

Go for the weapon you use most. There is no reason to make a moot or bolt if you wont use them. In my case (Guardian is my main too), I would never do a moot or a bolt becouse I almost never use a mace or sword, if I were in you place, I would do a Twillight (my dream) becouse I use greatsword a lot. I also use scepter a lot, but I wont make a Meteorlogicus any time soon becouse the effects are so lame (competes with The Minstrel for the worst legendary title).

Go for the weapon that you use more and like the effects.

Sorry for my english.

Just a hint…they will be updating Meteorlogicus for sure, and when they do, expect the price for the precursor to go up. Failing to take advantage of it now means it will be expensive later on.

My opinion is that while Moot looks nice, Bolt is the best looking Legendary.

That being said, don’t force yourself to use a type of weapon you don’t enjoy just because it’s a Legendary. If you don’t use 1h sword or mace on a character that won’t benefit from it, sell it all and buy just about anything else. Seriously, the profit from selling Zap will let you buy a weapon you actually use.

Thanks folks, I think I will grab a mace and a 1-h sword and reacquaint myself with both before making a decision.

PS. I don’t really want to sell out and sit on gold and hope the new pre-cursors won’t be grindy or the new legendaries way better then the old legendaries because there is just too much uncertainly in that plan. I mean, for all we know it be more grindy and horrible then current legendaries.

remember only that whatever you decide, the weapon will become soulbount as soon as you equip it, so there is no point to think to a thief or a ranger if you don’t play them as you would play your guardian.

i personally would definitely go for the moot.
my norn guardian would be that kitten with it!!^^

Legendaries will be updated so they become as powerful as Ascended weapons, and, more importantly, they will receive the unique property of having changeable stats (so a player could set one at Soldier specs, then change to Rabid specs, then to Bezerker, and so on). Transmuting would likely lose those features.

It depends. Which one do you use more? But if you use both about equally then and you don’t like to farm much, then The Moot would be your best bet as Bolt takes 100 charged lodestones (most expensive one near 3g a pop) and it’s bottle necked since you have to do the Dwayna event to open up the sparks. You could also do CoE for them or try for aetherized scrap metal for a lodestone but in the end it’s a whole lot cheaper to make The Moot. Plus it has a nice like footprint. :o)

Neither, if you don’t use sword or mace very much. Legendaries (as you’ve discovered) are a massive time and money investment… so what you really want is something you’ll use most of the time. Being forced into a specific (or bad) playstyle because of a legendary is just going to ruin the pay-off for all your work.

Start from what toons you play most, narrow down to what weapons they primarily use, then pick the one you most like the look of. If that turns out to be a gs or staff, you’ll have to save even more money… but at least once you get it, it’ll be awesome, instead of annoying/lame.
