Boring?
Welcome to Gw2 endgame.
Enjoy!

It take a few days to a few months to know if two people are meant to be together. Guess not for you in this case. Please tell me one game’s endgame stuffs is different every day and month.

I’m not sure it’s because they fail to provide it (they certainly didn’t in GW1, but then again I think developers changed a lot since), or if it’s because they choose not to bother with an end-game since they don’t make any money from it.
Either way, nope, there is not a whole lot to do at 80. Just play the game for weekend content patches, they are usually quite well made content-wise, they just need to get their kitten together in terms of servers and bugs.

That’s easy UO the very first MMO I played didn’t have an Endgame it was open community and the people created the content themselves. Pks pushing good people out of a mining area, let go beat those punks. Want to go cannibal and chop people and eat them (before they got sued) go for it. Hell I could get on sit down with some chaps and play chess in a tavern. Play commodity broker by purchasing out reagents and hocking them on a corner yelling prices. Go build a house. Tame Dragons.
ArcheAge comes to mind.
Though ya every MMO eventually hits a dead end where there are limited options except like UO and ArcheAge and open world games like that.
Ya I can go play those MMOs and probably will. The question isn’t about other games it’s about what does GW2 offer me?
So GW1 during it’s first 3 months of release is a solid game?

Just be patient and wait. WIntersday is coming 14 dec to 3rd Jan.

Love posts like these. Uhm remember those other games? how terrible they were. Yeah GW2 doesn’t have the issues those other games had even WITH the new tier and the new dungeon. In the process of making this game ready for Nov 16th release they’ve made a few mistakes making the game like the other ones we don’t want to play anymore, BUT until we see a release of a patch fixing things like this, it will be like those old dungeon raiding only titles.
Also, if you feel there’s nothing else to do in an mmo most likely it’s mmo burnout and not the current game you’re playing.
Go make some cookies, plant a vegetable garden, read a book would be my suggestion.
I will be waiting to see what they do next, because I recognize they apologized quite genuinely in the AMA. The only thing to do is wait because we won’t know if they mean to fix everything in one patch or multiple mini patches.
Well, I think it offers a lot. Personally, I spend my time doing fractals or WvW, as well as dungeoning/trading for money to eventually get that legendary.
I know you said you don’t like WvW, but have you tried fractals? Quite fun, and I’ve been spending tons of time on it with my friends in our attempt to achieve lvl 20 difficulty.
And you can always work for a legendary. If that’s too high for you, there’s still other pretty cool weapon skins you could aim for (Foefire’s Essense, Volcanus, etc.)
Which game developer will keep their customers entertained with a new event every few months.
-October Mad King
-November Lost Shore ( It is not so great but Devs understand the community after all the hoohaaa)
-December Wintersday.
What more you want them to offer???

To me FotM is just another dungeon and with the 1-20+ levels it’s not always easy to get in. Ya and I am working on Volcanus, working on armors. Ultimately though it’s like why? Once I’m done with that what else is there? You know there has to be a goal or else all that effort is wasted on acquiring these items that have no purpose. Fractals was fun without a doubt but after 8 times or so. I’m not all that excited about it any more.
Wintersday will probably be cool but I’ve never had an MMO where you would just show up for these monthly events.
I don’t know maybe I’m just in the wrong genre of MMOs.
Actually, another idea. Why not try to make an impact on your server? Gather and organize people to push back the Undead in Orr. Capture wps, and ensure other people in your server has easier access to it.
It’s somewhat thankless, yea, but you’re making a real impact in the game world and helping people out indirectly.
I’m just now realizing months after release there’s not really anything to do.
You should be playing to have fun, instead of playing in order to achieve random milestones. If you don’t enjoy any aspect of the game – if you don’t have fun in the personal storyline or doing events or doing dungeons or exploring or playing WvW or playing sPvP… Why are you playing the game in the first place?

I think the problems addressed by the OP is the problem that every themepark MMO runs into. That’s why the future of MMORPGs will have sandbox features. Eventually companies will realize that throwing more and more of the same content out there won’t solve the problem, they will start thinking outside the box.

I play with my wife and I still find it to get boring quick. If she doesn’t get annoyed about the tediousness and bugs first. She’s a lot less forgiving when we run into a bug that locks up an event or we do a dungeon and we die to much or a bug prevents us from finishing it. ALT-F4 and this game can go to heck. That makes it even worse for me when I want her to play this game that’s chock full of bugs up to the gills.
maybe you should play with others too not just your wife… socialize ?

I don’t think sideline chatter and extra avatars on my screen will all that much improve the problem lack of activities. What your suggesting might enhance what is already there but in no way CREATES more activities.
I have to agree with the OP. I was logging on for the social aspect, if anything, but Fractals killed mapchat in Lions Arch. Now I just don’t log on as much, because chat in LA now consists of ‘LFG LFG LFG’. Sigh….

This assumes I haven’t done much if any of these things. I have been exploring as it says in the original post, I’ve finisehd the story line twice, working on the third. WvW honestly kind of sucks. It’s just huge mash ups of groups of players with various intensities of lag. sPVP is fun but you can only do the same maps over and over before you want to shot yourself in the face. With little to no real reward, and absolutely no PVE or transferable reward to the regular game.
Why am I playing this game? Most often I don’t just assume something is going to suck before I play it. I don’t know about you. I wasn’t born psychic. I often have to play something or do something before I know about it.

Edited for accuracy.
It’s not a criticism, but my mind boggles at the idea that some people seem to expect GW2 to provide endless entertainment for ever. Sinking hundreds of hours into a video game and then bemoaning the lack of things to do seems bizarre to me. You’ve done the things! All the things you want to do! If you’ve done all the things you want to do, there’s not really any reason you should keep playing until new things are introduced or you want to replay the old things.
In a way, I suppose it’s a compliment that folks want more to do, because it suggests that the stuff they have been doing has been enjoyable (or just compulsive). I’d rather think that than if the complaints were being based on hundreds of hours of apparent entertainment for $60.

oh and honestly OP it sounds like what you want is FFA pvp, at least the games you mentioned that is the major difference.
I’m just now realizing months after release there’s not really anything to do.
What else is there? What else would you like to see added?
It really helps if you are playing with mates on vent/mumble/teamspeak. It makes everything much more interesting, dungeons and especially WvW.
Even though I already have a few level 80’s they don’t feel like level 80’s because I don’t have the BiS items. even my most geared character still doesn’t feel right because I haven’t bought/made/got all the things I want for him.
GW2 endgame is much larger than people told me since I haven’t reached the end where I feel like I can retire a character because he has completed everything I want to complete.
Grind and Grind and then grind some more
Now be a good little GW2 player and get back in there. LOL
Fractals be like the cool kids and dont stop
Personally, I hate the term ‘endgame’ when it comes to a game that never actually ends. There is no “Congratulations! You have beaten Guild Wars 2!” message in this game is there?
after you finished gw2 pve mode wich probably takes a nromal person about 3 to 4 weeks you can aim for better looking items legendary or try your luck in pvp 5 maps and 1 game mode.. so if you getting bored off pve already wich has like 5000 maps i wouldnt touch that one with a 10 feet pole.
I do not have any answer better than: Wait for the next expansion.
When I ended the story of Guild Wars’ Prophecies I had yet to get many Elite skills and, also, I replayed it many times with each of the classes (professions), I wanted to unlock all skills, then, there came Sorrow Furnace and I played it many times each time trying it with a smaller party so that the probability to get a green weapon were increased. It came a time when I had nothing more to do, but this was many months after release and near the Factions expansion, I played World of Warcraft in the mean time.
Yes, Guild Wars 2 is a different game than Guild Wars 1, I do not like the system of preset builds of skills, I do not like the lack of clear profession rolls, and I lose my self in Vistas and Jumping Puzzles, I get bored of exploration with POIs spoiling the discovering and I do not feel like replaying the game even one more time. Still I will wait until the next paid expansion to see if play-ability improves.
(edited by marianojc.2965)
Yeah… Join a guild, play with other people. You might think that the game does not change playing with more people but it does.
Try a difficult 5-man with 4 other people all connected on mumble / teamspeak. It’s a blast.
Honestly though, the game does not owe you any more entertainment than you’ve already had out of it.
If you can’t abide playing with people who aren’t your wife (and it sounds like she actually might be the one spoiling it for you), wait for the next free expansion (there’s one in two weeks), do all the content in that, then log out and wait for the next one.
I hate these threads. People are so driven by what items they get out of something that they forget that it’s a game & supposed to be fun to play. If you don’t like PvP, or WvW, or exploration, or dungeons…then I’m thinking an MMORPG isn’t for you. They just added fractals and already you’re sick of them? Everyone whines about “not enough endgame” but how many dungeons do you need before it’s “enough?” There are plenty of things to do: go for 100% map completion, join a guild, make some in-game friends, try PvP, shoot for an achievement, level crafting, play the TP market, roll an alt or 2, etc.

Map completion – done (once was fun, not again)
join a guild – done (most of em never online)
make in game friends – done (all of em left or went to other servers)
try pvp – done (spvp not ready yet, wvw fun from time to time but that’s it)
shoot for an achievement – done (completeled all jump puzzles and over 2500 points when I quit)
level crafting – NOT done (didn’t like the crafting system)
play the TP market – most items are very low priced except a specific group of high end stuff. I did pretty well on mats but it’s not a big interest for me.
Roll an alt – done (5 toons, 2 are level 80 – got bored leveling them).
Oh well.
What would you do in other MMOs? Run raids? That’s the “reached the max level” for you. Things you can do:
- run different dungeons for fun
- have a new alt
- complete all the jumping puzzles!
- climb fractals to see how high you can go
- WvW to gain lots of badges and then showing off the amount of badges on the map chat (you said it’s not for you, but still)
- PvP reaching for its highest rank.
- full map completion! (close to this on my one character, what a pain in the kitten this is, but it’s fun if you want a goal)
- do different dragons one after the other
- go and farm in level 80 zones while having a pleasant chat with people on the map
- complete your story (if you haven’t done this already)
- max out all professions one after the other
- aim for a legendary
- have a break from the game, play something else until you once again feel the want to play an MMO.
There, that’s my full list
I think that if leveling characters by itself had a greater replay value for me I could get over this gear issue and just play for fun. It just happened to coincide with me getting bored with the game as a whole though, so my anger aside about Anet’s approach here, I think that Lost Shores just didn’t offer anything for me to look forward to at the same time I got bored with what was there before.

Now this is the valid concern but all we can do is wait…..
They already apologized for their mistake we must wait for the patches that will fix said mistake.
This is why I wish Blizzard would go back to their Vanilla/BC ways and make people work for things. Vanilla and BC you had to put in time and effort to just get attuned to be able to enter one of the raids. Then you also need to farm rep. It was more than just dailies then to get rep. You could get it by a lot of ways but yeah it was still farming. But this took up a lot of time and always gave me something to do along with many others. I never logged on and just sat there and tried to think of something to do like you do in most mmo’s today. Also make the end game raids like then also. None of this LFR, normal and hard mode stuff.
I know I am talking from a pve perspective but, well, GW2 is becoming more pve when I thought it was supposed to be pvp.
Yes I know also that people now-a-days don’t have that time anymore but you know what, those same people are complaining about nothing to do also and how easy everything is. I think gaming companies will be surprised that they may not lose people going back to this way and also won’t need to feel the need to pump out tons of new content every other week because it will take time to do things. There is a reason WoW’s numbers grew how they did from Vanilla and BC and started dropping during Wrath and Cata.
Not only with the end game but they also would pump out lots of events and even a couple events where the whole server needed to participate in (Opening of the AQ gates and unlocking Sunwell and the territories there). That was so much fun.
If people don’t have the time and don’t want to put in the time then go play single player RPG games like Skyrim.
This isn’t just about Blizzard and WoW but used them as the example since they are the only ones to do it right in Vanilla and BC. I would love other mmo game to be like that even if it is from another company.
i do wish they would focus more on the pvp aspect of this game, imo that is their longevity.
i do wish they would focus more on the pvp aspect of this game, imo that is their longevity.
Exactly. I am a pve raider but came to this game expecting mostly pvp but fun pvp that made you wan to play as I wanted to get into some pvp more. Such a huge disappointment. WoW’s pvp is better and more competitive and that is sad when GW2 was supposed to be pvp based.
Good grief…then go play another game for awhile. There is no sub here, so you can come back when your attitude is better. Or not…as you choose.

I have the perfect solution for you… make your own game. THEN… you can dump all your time into make moar and moar and moar content that is exactly what you like…
I mean, really? What are you expecting? You stated you don’t like pretty much all the main facets of the game… sounds like it is time for greener pastures buddy.

UO is still up, and it’s been up since 1997.
If you guys read the original post, it asks what could be added, not just how well do you think you can defend what GW2 has done so far. I haven’t seen one thought on what could be added to improve the game. I think that tells everyone a great deal. Maybe there is nothing that can be done. Maybe this is all GW2 can offer.
Hell I’d be half way ok with grinding dungeons if they remove the DR and they removed these kitten events that you have to do in order to open some dungeons. Why are those even there? Now with fractals up you might as well forget these other dungeons. With the way the servers are working I have to wait till the server fills up to even find a party. WTF even when I want to play the game GW2 is there to prevent me from playing it. Why does ANET try so hard to prevent what little enjoyment I can get from it.
Now I got to go to external websites people have made to get around the game mechanics ANET put into the game. People are paying money to host websites designed as a workaround to ANETs design. I think that is a bit of a clue that ANET needs to get on the ball.

^This.
MMOs aren’t meant to last forever; no game is. If you paid your fee for the box, did what you wanted in game, and had some fun doing it … success. You win; move on.
“Endgame” is silly. No MMO has ever made an “endgame” that wasn’t just an overt attempt to force people to repeat the same content ad infinitum to “earn” a few pixels and a +1 to your character sheet.
They want to keep players around, but cannot make content to keep them all busy. The only way around it is to put out what content they can and forcibly slow everyone down from finishing/achieving to drag things out.
Now, mind you, some people enjoy that. Some people want to grind, or farm, or run the same dungeon or raid 10+ times to prove or earn something. MMOs fit these people and their playstyle very well.
Some people just play slowly, as well. They play less hours so they consume content at a pace the developers can keep up with. They also luckily avoid a lot of the grind, because generally the grinds get smoothed out over time.
If your idea if fun is not rerunning the same content as if it is a job, to ‘earn’ a small upgrade, and you do not play at a very slow pace … then you are probably not the long-term MMO customer.
Walk away, put a Post-It note on your calendar to come back in a couple months and do the new stuff they add.
Asking MMO players’ advice about an MMO is not a solid idea. People will suggest things you do not find fun, then act abhorred when you disagree. Find someone that doesn’t MMO .. and pose the same question to them. “Hey I did all the stuff I could find to do in this game I play … there is some other stuff to do but I don’t like it … wut’ do?!”
Odds are instead of “well grind ____”; “explore/grind/farm ____!”; “rerun ____ over and over until you ‘earn’ a reward!” you’ll get a less biased answer.
(edited by Dominae.3146)
I play an average of 15-20h per week since release.
I am very far from having seen the whole content.
Actually, i’m workin on my exotics now.
and GOSH, i have a hard time finding players to do story mode dongeons!
if i can play 15h a week , i dont like to wait 1h each time i want to find a group.
but thats my only complaint, otherwise, game is Great for my playstyle and when i see a too with 100% map and a legendary and full dungeon armor and commander status… i… am amazed and saddened by his dedication.

Funny, that is where I thought you go to share your feelings “within reason”. We’re all building that perfect game in our heads and we all hope “the next game” is closer to that ideal. If not, we say why not, right or wrong.
I am one to agree, I thought this game was to be PvE to 80. WvWvW until next expansion. Some event diversions from time to time. At least in a general sense.

Different generations I suppose. Younger players (speaking in a generational sense here) seem feel the need to tell/share with everyone how bored they are in these games. I see it on all the forums in all the games.
I don’t really understand it either. I figure if I’m unhappy with a particular game, I’ll just leave and go play something else. Why go out of my way to spoil someone else’s experience?
Because thats what you people are doing. Spoiling some unsuspecting new person’s gaming experience by posting the kitten that ends up in these forums.
Like playing with a bunch of kitten spoiled kids….oh wait.

There is your answer OP. If you’ve done all that and are still bored then this probably isn’t the game for you. Or maybe you should only come around during special events and/or expansions when they have them.
Right there with you OP. Within the first month I burnt myself out by hitting 80 and gearing myself in full exotics. Now I find myself logging on for maybe a minute or two to check how my gems are doing price wise and find myself then logging off. I used to at least spend a bit more time on if I saw a few trolls (which I find refreshing when people seem to take this game way too seriously it seems regarding my server) and would join in on the fun in map chat. I am not stating that they haven’t tried to release new content but I guess it hasn’t proven to be any more exciting than when other games have holiday events as well.
I have the same problem. Completed the map to like 97% and did majority of the dungeons. Im not even gonna try doing them all because everyone is too busy grinding fractals. JPs seem to me like frustrating waste of time with no reward, Orr had some fun events but now its empty so there goes that, and Im not a pvp player so spvp is out of the question even though wvw is a really good idea only not really fun for me. You might say that the game is simply not for me but I was really looking forward for it for years and I didnt expect it to just stop being interesting after such a short period of time.
Coming from someone who has played 7 years of heavy MMOs, the following
is my two cents.
Without WvW I would have quit along time ago. To me, it is really the only
thing keeping the game interesting. Even than, I only do a few hours before
the “zergfest” gets old hat for the night.
One of my most favorite pasttimes in past games was grinding mobs, especially
first thing in morning when Im trying to wake up. It was actually fun for me
to do these for a few hours a day. There are two problems with this in GW2:
1) Grinding rewards are very low 2) Someone will label you a bot and get you banned.
Fractals were fun until level 4, than I realized they grew boring the 5th time around
(and they are VERY unfriendly to pugs not on teamspeak).
All in all, its good to kill time on but I feel bad to new players to the game
who are facing 2-3 times the gear cost we had to deal with.
