Boss Unique Weapons
I have to admit I loved Green’s in GW1, it always felt way cooler if you were using “Kerrsh’s Staff” rather than generic Bo Staff number 5.
I remember that before release when they talked about dungeon rewards they, at the time, had set up a different system where you earned the dungeon gear on play through, rather than earning tokens. I was actually really excited for that and wish it was something they had kept in game.
There is a massive difference between “do this dungeon 6-12 times and get a full set of gear” and “do this dungeon a RIDICULOUS amount of times so you can afford to buy a full set of gear”. Giving players direct and quantifiable rewards makes them feel as if they’ve achieved something. Telling players to earn a kitten-load of tokens to buy the dungeon gear makes them view dungeons as a grind.
There already are some weapons that only drop from specific bosses, I believe. There’s a specific scepter that drops from Tequatl, a focus that drops from the Great Worm in Caledon Forest… and probably others I’m sure.

Don’t forget Final Rest which drops from <Dev please fill in blank>

Lol on the date of this topic.
Final Rest drops from Shadow behemoth at a rate of between 1 and 3 per event now.
To the topic, there IS a unique weapon for each world boss. That’s where a lot of the “named” exotic weapons in the TP come from. Most of them drop just often enough that they aren’t worth much more than any other random drop, though. So people think since they are only 2-4 gold they aren’t “special.”
“I’ve seen many posts about GW2 not having any endgame PvE content and I agree with them. I’m not a dungeoneer since its not my playstyle "
So then the issue is not that GW2 lacks endgame PvE content but you’re refusing to do it because you don’t want to.
It’s like saying this game has no mass pvp but I don’t like WvW because it’s not my playstyle.
You’re contradicting yourself.
GW2 has sufficiet PvE in it. Dungeons, both story and explorable. You have meta events such as the five orr temples. You have half a dozen, maybe more zone bosses, as well as three dragons.
Not sure what you want in end-game PvE, but if you don’t want to do the current end-game PvE, then that’s your problem, not Arenanet.

unique drops from open world bosses lead to a lot of griefing.
players camping the spawn, boss getting downed before most ppl can tag it, players arguing over who gets to have a turn at tagging it for credit.
It was a great system in the instanced world of GW1… in an open world mmo it always leads to really horrible social issues.

Have you played this one game called, um…hmmmm, oh yeah…Guild Wars 2. It’s a game where several people are needed for champions anyway and if you weren’t able to get a few hits in to qualify for a drop, then it wasn’t meant to be. I’m sure there are dozens upon dozens of more champs around tyria.
And god forbid they throw special items on legendary class beings. They go down faster than Vets.
Anyway, I totally support “Green Weapon” farming being brought over GW1. I also support skin drops, exotic drops being linked to specific beings whether they be in open world or in an instance. Southsun mask already fall in southsun.

Yes, I have. And i remember a situation very close to this that came up on release when you’d have large groups farming that cave event in Gendarran.

I was fishing in another game day before yesterday and this rare world boss spawns behind me. A raid party then forms and I spend 10 minutes fighting the boss and adds. My reward was a ring 56 item levels above my currently equipped rings. Now that’s the way to do rewards in a grindy game. The idea of fighting a world boss for a rare that ‘might’ yield an ecto is underwhelming to say the least.
I’d just like to see some beautiful rare boss, that has no obvious trigger or random timer. You just have to be lucky for it to pop up! And it could be anywhere… I think it would add an element and stop huge numbers amassing and waiting…
^
same for me.
but hardcore farmers would disagree as it wouldnt be “totally balanced as some other harcores would farm them more than them depending on radomness”.
imo, make it random.
much cooler “world events” than a chest on timer.
im a hero, not a farmer!
As long as the unique boss equipment is also available by crafting, karma vendors, and WvWvW tokens, I don’t have a problem with it. Otherwise some group is going to feel left out.
It would be so cool to just be mining something or in some low level area to suddenly see a huge boss fly up and start battling everyone around!!

I’m remembering this event in Kessex Hills at the centaur war camp where that Champion was dogpiled down so fast it was hard to get anything higher than silver if you weren’t there when it started and were beating on it regularly.
Also, about ten minutes away there were twenty (!!!) engineers dropping turrets and healing fields around the bridge and just auto-attacking in the direction centaurs would spawn.
Want to avoid griefing or farming for gold-making? These unique weapons soulbond or account-bond on acquire.
ANYTHING just give me something to do/farm, anet.
ANet is not against grinding, otherwise i wouldnt been doing fractals of the mist for over 2 months already to get the weapon i want and i didnt get it yet. I swear fractal skins are harder to get than legendaries.

Until it’s harder to get than an Icy Dragon Sword was before Nicholas started giving them out . . .
These exist, by the way. At least one weapon and piece of jewelry per boss.
I’m working on a spreadsheet of them, but it’s currently very incomplete.
edit: I’ve have no problem with them making them a different color and calling the rarity “Unique” as in GW1.

Did you get “Sentinel’s Bane” from the Shatterer? I got that the other night.

The Shatterer also drops a jewelery named “Kralltorik’s(sp?) Breathe.” I’ve seen people link that.

At this point I’m now going to want to see this list when it reaches a deeper level of completion.
Also, bosses need to get more interesting scaling methods. Like, evolving to get new attacks if a crowd is there versus one group.

Completely and utterly agreed with this. They did say they’re introducing some kind of new event-scaling system that introduces new creatures at higher populations.
But this is a mechanic I’d like to suggest. The boss should have an algorithm to detect large clumps of players and proceed to drop AoE/creatures on top of it. They should have the metrics to develop this algorithm. They have a player activity heat map that they showed us, so I’m sure it’s within their capabilities. Right now one of the biggest problems contributing to the “lazy” feel of these boss fights is the large clumps of people who sit in one spot and autoattack. Dropping AoEs and creatures on big concentration of players will encourage movement and make the fight generally more exciting.
They could take all the exotic weapons that are exclusively obtained from the Mystic Toilet now and make them unique drops attached to different champs bosses around the world (and to dungeon bosses).
In GW1 the beauty about farming these bosses was that you created a whole party build specifically for that boss, so it gave you a reason to experiment with build synergies, etc.

Oh god I remember the “degen ranger” build I had for Duncan. Solely for Duncan. Or the “screw you M. Bison” build for the Norn Fighting Tournament.
