I commented in a prior thread regarding the new SW boss and I have a proposal.
I have been running Tequatl since I came back mid season 2 and I find the other World Bosses to be SO boring now. They were always a walk in the park but really; Maw, Jungle Wurm, Shadow Behemoth and Fire Elemental are the first World Bosses new players are likely to see. Shouldn’t the fight be epic? Shouldn’t the fight be more than “press 1 and collect your loot?” The Temple battles are great. Why can’t we have more like this?

I propose a Boss Week: 2.0. Revamp all the World Boss fights. Not just to scale them so that the mapo full of people can tag them, give them all phases and make them spawn adds. Add new loot tables with unique ascended weapon skins and minis and even new spoons. I would love to have a mini Shatterer ?… Or a red and yellow ascended greatsword with flames… a black and purple dagger with crystalline effects… a white and blue sword with frost mist… you get the picture.

Finally, add new, unique boss tokens like those you get from dungeons to make items attainable if your luck is terrible. Award 3 tokens for success, 1 for failure. Items can be priced 50 tokens for one handed weapons and 100 for two handed weapons (minis for 200 tokens). Even add special consumables to make it worth running after you’ve won/bought everything you want.

I’d love to hear ideas on how these fights could be improved or special loot that could be created. To start it off, here is my idea for Fire Elemental:

Event starts as normal, follow Rooba and C.L.E.A.N. 5000, clear the reactor, protect him for the 5 minutes BUT the adds are stronger. Real Champs, Elites and more of them as the group demands. Make this event failable so the group that camps on the plinth waiting to tag the boss actually do some work.

The whole event is timed.

Phase 1: Initial Burn phase. Much more health and many more lava fonts but your basic DPS race.

During this phase, Rooba comes to her senses and has to be escorted by a group back to her tent to collect special Asuran fire fighting equipment. The escort would encounter Ember adds and maybe even some elemental forms we’ve never seen.

Phase 2: AOE and adds. The FE begins sending out waves of fire with diminishing effects based on proximity much like the Teragriff from season 2.

This phase begins when Rooba gets to the tent or the FE gets to 50% health.

During this phase, escorts will also be returning with anti-flamethrowers. Some will need to remain armed with their own weapons to fend of the non-fire spawn already within the Thaumanova, which should also upscale with the event.

While Rooba is returning, ranged attackers can continue to keep DPS on the FE but embers spawn in the room. Approximately half of the adds will fight players. The other half are drawn to the FE and if they make it, FE will heal for twice their health.

This phase does not end until Rooba returns to lob an ice grenade at the FE, ending the AOE phase.

Phase 3: Another DPS race but this time the returning escorts can use the Anti-flame throwers against healer adds with added effect.

Thoughts?

They could just remove all of these safe spots that players have been using so they’ll have to use the full mechanics of each boss.

I’m all for rewarding tokens which can be spent on boss specific loot, it’d certainly eliminate the luck factor which needs to go for certain aspects of the game.

I don’t think rewarding players for a loss is ideal though, if you fail the event, I personally don’t think you should get anything.

Make it a daily thing too, otherwise the loot would be far too common from people just hopping maps.

Warrior 80 | Guardian 80 | Ranger 80 | Engineer 80 |
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA

Or at least the reward for failing should be low enough that people would rather the event succeed than fail. Otherwise you’ll end up with the same situation as has happened before: those who want to fail the event vs those who want to succeed the event.

Not rewarding would go against precedent based on every other event out there. Failing does give some form of reward.

I think they did state when Tequatl was revamped that they had plans to revamp all the world bosses in a similar fashion, to make them all challenging.

Not sure if you remember, as Teq is easy now, but when it was released it took a long time before random pugs could complete it 4 times a day. Took a while before some servers could even kill him once, let alone once a day.

Not sure what happened to those plans though, probably still in the works somewhere, but my guess is that they decided LW Season 1 was too unfocused and put their efforts in S2 on focusing the narrative, rather than have random released scheduled in like Boss Week, Triple Trouble and Tequatl Rising.

I’m pretty sure they are working on it. If the reception on the first week of Teq is any indication, them revamping all the fights could really put some life into guilds.

All they need to do is make Guild Achievements that direct them to these bosses and boom, you give guilds something other than Guild events to do.

I make guides to builds you may not have heard of;

Daily, account bound maximum rewards would mean if you fail the first time you try that day you can still hope to win the next time and get the full reward for the day. If you spend your day beating your head against the wall, you can still get as much reward as someone whose group succeeded in the first try.

In the first Boss Week, when we were all still trying to figure out the Tequatl fight and there was no reward for failure, many quit trying and came under the impression that this was big server/big guild only content. The forums were awash with QQ about how discouraging it was. There is no incentive for failure with this idea but there is no encouragement to rage quit the event either.

In my scheme above, one would be able to work the Boss for 7 weeks, every day, to get a full set of weapons. Another 7 weeks would get the Mini and by adding unique, desirable consumables, farming the Boss becomes a real long term aspect of the game.

Teq is “easy” as long as there is a coordinated group actively participating, otherwise known as: “a good tequatl server”. If you are not able to get on an active server in time, then you will not be able to beat tequatl.

New players would probably feel that Maw, Jungle Wurm, Shadow Behemoth and Fire Elemental were “epic” if there weren’t 100+ geared up level 80’s camped there to kill them.

Very true, but should an encounter be considered a “World Boss” if it can be defeated with only 5 people?

Two weeks ago I entered Harathi late and was the only one of 3 to run the event chain up to the Overlord. It took a while but we got him down. Though the fight was great, I don’t think he should count as World Boss material in his current form. When those those 100+ full ascended geared 80s show up, there should be more to do than faceroll and dodge an occasional AOE.
