Hi Arenet,

I have been leveling up an alt, so I have been around all lowbee area’s trying to level up and enjoying the scenery. I noticed that there is a massive increase of female Thiefs which teleport around to farm wood/ore/herbs.

I know you all prefer a more detailed report but here is the little problem. Sometimes I am able to right click on them and report them but mostly they teleport somewhere, farm, go invisible and leave within a split second. So even a right click/report is not working. Imagine going into a detailed bug report + screenshot in those few little seconds. (Reported 37 yesterday)

If you stand still at a WP or anything that can be farmed you will be amazed how many bots are up and running right now (Ehmry bay).

I think you guys have done a very good job with getting rid of the congo line of ranger bots, so how about getting rid of these thiefs? Or do you guys have a solution for a better way of reporting these bots?

I’ve been seeing the same thing on Ehmry Bay. They just show up out of nowhere, mine, and disappear. Mainly been seeing them in starting areas. They seem to be at almost every node! I think this is going to be a problem that ANET will never fully take care of but hey at least they are trying.

Been seeing them in droves under water at frostgorge sound farming barracudas 24/7 unhindered for over a week now..

All we can do is confirm they are bots and keep reporting new ones as they appear..

I stopped reporting, honestly there are just too many it’s a hassle. ANet needs a GM per server to run around addressing the issue head on instead of relying on us to send 250 reports in per bot, but hell if Blizz refuses to do this for the last hundred years and ANet never did it in GW1 either I don’t see this happening.

I know there a ban command, and I know for a fact ANet has banned innocent people so their “investigation process” is not flawless in the first place, bots are soooo blatantly obvious I see no down side from just banning them on the spot.

Protip, buy yourself stacks of t6 right before the wintersday update. Bans happen in waves as you may know and those usually coincide with updates. Bots are illegal but you can still profit from them in legal ways. Buying from bots is actually a gold sink since both bots and gold buyers get banned inevitably.

Before the bot bad, omnomberries were low in price, as soon as the mass ban happened, the price went up, way up, now the price is creaping back down, maybe reflecting the bots supplying more than people are buying.

And a simple solution for ANet to combat teleporting bots, a death layer just under the surface of the map … they wont teleport very far

Some other MMOs have special scripts detecting abnormal activities of every character. Movement speed higher than any buff would provide, attack speed above the maximum cap, cooldowns reduction/removal, teleports… When such script is activated, suspected account is getting disconnected and receives temporary ban (1-3 days). When script is activated again, permaban comes instantly

Devs should consider working on such detector, I know it’s possible, as there was auto-ban based on swear filter. It would for sure spare a lot of time of every GM assigned to work on botting issue

I used to play a game where is was possible to increase your speed, but too fast and you hit terminal velocity and died, thats what they need to check here, amongst other things. This plus a death layer just under the surface, with the message “You materialized in solid rock, killing you instantly”.

Interestingly, I’ve also started receiving gold seller emails again.
When I initially stopped receiving them, I wrongly assumed that ArenaNet had done something really clever. Turns out, not so much. They simply increased the aggressiveness of the spam filter in mails, so if you send more than one mail with the same subject, or more than one in a certain amount of time, you get blocked.
This is a really lazy, bad solution, as it impacts legitimate players badly; for example, when doing a PUG dungeon run, I like to be able to distribute potions to all party members, but the draconian mail spam settings prevent me from doing this.

But this is very symptomatic of the slapdash development approach to GW2 we’ve seen so far, with rushed, “Good Enough” solutions applied to perceived problems without considering long term effects. Drop reduction, spam filters, bot bans, all have been done at minimal cost with no ingenuity or elegance displayed.

Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

I enjoy the fact my thief can tele from harvesting node to harvesting node and I can quickly get mats I need without being forced to stop and engage the mobs. Anet promised we would get to play the game however we want so if I want to craft a character to 80 I shouldn’t have to kill mobs to get the mats…

Unfortunately I’ve not gotten on my thief to collect mats in over a month now – too afraid people will report me as a bot and I’ll get banned. Would be really nice of Anet to create keystroke detection scripts so that people who run paths get tagged as bots whilst those of us who want to play the game can be left alone…

Hi everyone,

If you see or suspect someone engaging in botting, please the in game report tool. But please do not open threads like this as they don’t help solving the issue.

This thread is closed. Thanks
