Bots in Guild Wars 2 [Merged]
I still don’t understand why we’re making this out to be a MASSIVE issue. It happens in every new MMO, and it isn’t happening with greater frequency than usual.
People are making a huge deal out of it, to the point of writing articles already, but they haven’t even remotely given ANet the time they need to correct the issue. We’re a month in, report them and hope they complete the countermeasures soon. There’s absolutely no sense in writing entire articles to spread around and make it seem like our game is worse than it is.

On the contrary, there is every reason. As you started, it’s happening with greater frequency than usual. ArenaNet may have planned for “usual frequency”, but the bots are coming down upon Guild Wars 2 like a plague of locusts. There is cause for alarm, and there is need to write about it and share it with the public. Public attention drives action, and there needs to be some action very, very soon.
I’m on Tarnished Coast. During the process of leveling my Ranger to 80 I have seen 1 bot and he wasn’t even in Orr. A Ranger just spamming arrows.
I don’t think the bot problem is as prevalent as people make it out to be or it is only some servers that are affected by them. I have over 200 hours of gameplay logged so you would think after covering over 85% of the map I would have seen more than 1 if they were running rampant everywhere.

Giving them a bit more time is a fair shout.
But this is a larger problem in GW2 than other games. The sheer number of bots aside, the higher level of interaction that this game naturally moves players toward is particularly spoiled by being forced to interact with crowds of bots. It puts the issue very much in player’s face. And, as discussed at length, they are damaging an already precarious economy that -and I claim no level of expertise here – would probably require delicate balancing during the best of times.
Obviously some of the botters are here to try an convince everyone that there is nothing wrong, but facts are facts, there are groups of 5-10-20 bots in places on my server “Sea of Sorrows” alone. SO god knows how many on others. We havew trained on them to get them killed, we have reported them an nothing is ever done (apart from the botters reporting us for griefing lol)….
Now if an MMO EVE Online is able to jump on botters, then GW2 should be able, its just a case of “wanting” to. Now granted there’s alot of bots in EVE still, unlike GW2 in EVE we can harras an kill them even though CCP don’t like highsec killings…
For GW2, all it would take is some in game GM’s whose job it is to ban bots in real time. Ban the accounts, delete the chars on them.\
They can easily see gold transfers being done in the logs, or on the trade house. If someone has a white item up for 500 gold, you can be 100% garenteed its a gold sale.
I find it strange there are self confessed Anet Devs playing GW2 all time, an yet they can see it happening for themselves.
