Botting ruining this game *pic included*
Well, at least you’re keeping the mods busy.
To be fair, this is an easily controllable situation. Bots are not. There is no “plus” to having them in the game, only downside. So if they could press a button and destroy all the bots they would.
You don’t kill a snake by cutting off its tail. If they removed these, they would probably be replace by five new ones the next day.

-Alexander Pope
Just think about it for a moment. They scam your customers, undercut your prices, annoy your players, wreck the economy, take up space on the servers, require full time staff to track down and eliminate… there is no benefit to having them around.
So if it was really that easy, what reason do you think they have for ignoring the problem? What company ever made money by angering their customers and letting people steal from them?

I was just reading about someone getting a 3 day ban for his name, which I am sure was less reported than the botter gang. So yes, I think they can press a button or maybe even click a mouse a few times and POOF botter gone.
Please don’t take this as me saying I should never see another bot again, but the gangs of naked rangers and there furry friends are out of hand, and there is no excuse why they have not been dealt with.

Funny analogy because just like botters if you keep cutting that tail off, like a snake it will bleed to death.
Of course they (Anet) can’t be happy about the situation, but it does not change the fact that each day arrives and a new area is unplayable because I can’t even tag a mob or finish a DE because bots.
And they are just as frustrated as you are. When hospitals treated every infection with the simplest possible solution – blasting them with antibiotics – they cured the infections. And created bacteria that are immune to the antibiotics used to treat them. Now the common antibiotics are useless.
When you use the simplest possible solutions to get rid of the bots, they’re gone – for a little while. Then you have smarter bots to deal with, and the simple solutions don’t work any more. This has already happened, and has been happening for over a decade.
The situation’s complicated by the fact that bots account for a significant sourceof revenuefor Anet. They are not hacking accounts and making new characters to level 80 with gibberish names when it will be locked the instant the owner makes a ticket about it especially now that you require authentication for new logins. They are not using stolen credit cards for the same reason, that is detected very quickly, before they could even get to 80. They are making custom accounts, levelling a character to 80 on them, farming with them, and then selling a lvl 80 character account. That’s the main reason most companies follow a wave banning model it’s extremely profitable for all parties. Bots make far more than the cost of the account in the several month period, and will buy new accounts as soon as that period’s over. Wave banning only makes sense from a technical perspective when dealing with bots that are difficult/impossible for players/GMs to detect. If your bot is running in a swarm with dozens of other bots following the same preset path, it does not tip your hand to your detection methods the logical belief would be “oh i guess one of the several hundred people who saw our pain train reported us since we’re so obvious”
Yay, another post about bots. OP, try reading the sticky and how they are handling it. Thanks for playing.
