Brand new. Coach me.
Well, GW2 doesn’t seem to be very popular at the moment if you look around the forums… But it’s a great game! The enviroment is really good
Trahearne isn’t. You’ll find out why

Sounds like a welcome change. I cant wait!
Well I think the biggest pro point for a semi casual player like myself is that you can quit and comeback any time w/o worrying about subscription fee. Also I love the gameplay in general, from to PvP to PvE it’s all extremely fun for me. And jumping puzzles! I love jumping puzzles!
I play this game too much (>1000 hours so far). If you want to know or need help with anything, /w me in-game or message me or just ask me here.
Resident Thief
There’s a lot of great stuff about this game. It’s so gorgeous, it really is. There’s plenty weapon choices and play style freedom with every class so you can do a lot with anything; you’re not forced to be a tank or dps. Exploring doesn’t get old, and it’s a lot of fun trying to reach vistas and complete jumping puzzles. You’ll even open a chest at the end of the puzzles. Sometimes there’s some really nice stuff in there. c: Dungeons actually require some skill to run through, plus they’re pretty good for money making.
Sadly, the population of the lower level areas is currently lacking somewhat. A good portion of players have maxed characters and are busy on those. You’ll come across people helping with events and whatnot, though. It’s difficult to find yourself a guild with social people, but there are some out there. Unless you’re a market wiz, making gold can be fairly difficult as well. You can usually always afford gear and waypoints, though, unless you’re prone to spending. xD
Beware of these forums. There’s a lot of hate but it is actually the same group of 5-10 people that constantly complain saying they are/will quit because a new tier of gear was introduced LOL.
Thank you all for the good replies. I knew coming to the forums was a risky adventure, but hell thats why I’m here! Adventure!
I wonder… As I look around I see a ton of new acronyms. Would anyone be willing to explain the more widely used ones briefly?

Bingo. Thanks
Hi mattdel -
Welcome to the game, you’ll have a lot of fun here. The gameplay and environment are superb, with a huge amount to do. It is very friendly for casual players but there is some real challenge available in the dungeons and PvP parts of the game. It’s worth taking your time and really ‘smelling the roses’ on your way through because the game shows a huge amount of attention to detail in the world design – hundreds of wonderful little touches to be found.
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the negativity on the official forums at the moment. There have certainly been a few teething problems but the game is only three months old. Personally I have not found any ongoing issues which have spoiled the gameplay for me, and in my experience both here and in GW1, the developers have a pretty good record for getting things sorted out in the end.
The main issue that I think does need addressing is that a lot of the playerbase is currently hidden away in the new Fractals of the Mist dungeon, which is making some of the open world zones feel emptier than they should be. However, Anet have stated in several forums that they are aware of the issue and will be making the high level Ascended gear (which people are chasing in FotM) available elsewhere in the game, which should help to resolve this.
So yeah – welcome again, and may your steps be relentless
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Found a website with $40 digital download keys and jumped on it, been waiting to play this game since before launch. As I type the game is downloading.
I played WoW for the past 3~ years(quit mid-cata) and I was there for SWToR’s decent launch, stuck around for about a month before it got very meh.
Whats the shakedown around here? Pro’s / con’s, etc
1) Forget everything you know about WoW.
2)There’s no safe “auto-attack mode” as a mob can down you in 1-hit (see Ogre smash). So, you must dodge, dodge, and ever keep moving while attacking.
3) The personal story is interesting, and characters memorable. Make your choices in it wisely though.
4) Run from every undead chicken you see. Just run!
5) Have fun.
Learn to play for fun, rather than rewards. The game is intended to be played via exploration. “Hey, there’s that thing on my mini-map, I’ll go and check it out” which then leads to, “There’s a player here, I’ll follow him for a bit” which leads to “Oh, there’s an event over there!” etc etc.
The game is best enjoyed by wandering around and seeing what turns up, rather than being optimally focused on any particular aspect (eg. levelling, getting money, blasting through your story, etc.)
Also, you should learn to enjoy PvP, that’s where the truly repeatable gameplay is.
Finally, it’s tough with the lack of tools in the game but make an effort to find an active guild that fits your playstyle. Having people to do stuff with when you want to, makes the game a lot more enjoyable, even if you solo 90% of the time.
It’s a big world and it looks amazing. Whether you will find a lot of players on the way there is another matter and if you like the story lines and endgame grind is another matter.
Is it different than WoW? Of course it is. Instead of a quest log that gathers your activities, you have to walk around the world to find fixed tasks, which are like quests but allow multiple ways to complete and events that happen when they happen, some of which are bugged and some of which you can’t do cause you need more players for it.
You must learn that dodging is more important than your skills and that there is no such thing as a tank or healer. Everybody is DPS, support or a mix of the two.
At end level you can get decent gear quite quickly and when you get to fractals you can grind your brain out.
It has pro’s and cons…I just got bored way too quickly with it. Also it’s not alt friendly as a game. I suggest sticking to one character as a main unless you want to do insane grind for ascended gear and legendary weapons for multiple toons, not to mention the horrible story lines and voice acting that you need to stomach. “My story” actually isn’t about you.
Don’t ever watch the manifesto video. It’s best to appreciate the game for what it is, not for what they said it would be with so much fervour and conviction. I was disappointed, but others like this game. You decide where you stand.
However, for the 40 bucks you spend, you will likely got your money’s worth. I played over 400 hours before I got to the grind and boredom and that’s not bad for that money. World completion and jump puzzles were great to do. At least for one character. I couldn’t do all of that again.
Click the gear in your inventory. Go to Deposit collectibles. You can store crafting materials there.
Prepare to sit in front of the Trading Post all day to make money!
But in reality your losing it instead so throw Anet some real cash for them gems and convert! Rinse and Repeat!
Or just do what I do and explore the beautiful world of Tyria with multiple alts.
