This weekend there was near total absence of of gold selling spam in Lions Arc. And the last spammer email I got was when I logged in Friday.

They are all just…gone.

Looks like Anet silently eliminated them en masse. Well done.

I have a feeling the same treatment is coming for bots.

I was just thinking the same thing today.

Of course as soon as I did so I got a mail from a gold seller, but it’s my only one in days.

I’ve been still getting them. About 2-3 daily. The number is down from 6-7 daily about two weeks ago.

Can’t say the same about bots. If anything, the amount of bots increased. While there is proof against gold spammers (the mail) there isn’t much proof against whose botting. Anet hasn’t banned a single bot. I’ve been reporting bots for 4 weeks now, and not one of them have been banned. They’re still in the same spot doing the same routine. Where there was once gold spammers there will be bots.

Like I said in the OP, I think they will be handled the same way. Just one massive swing of the ban hammer along with an update to patch out the hacks and scripts they are exploiting.

As a side note, we can mess with them as players by moving them around the map with Mesmer portal skills. Most of them have F spammed to pick up loot. You can chain portal them to middle of no where ;D

Personally glad that Anet’s not banning every report for bots… I was waiting for a friend selling stuff to a vendor on a path outside this fortress, and same pathetic ranger aggro’d 6 mobs and was running away from them. I saved his life and the battle took me off the path so when I was done I went back to the path to await my friend and they accused me of being a bot.

I did my best to help him understand he was just a moron, but wouldn’t surprise me if I’ve not been reported in other cases as well since not everyone seems to understand the concept of what a bot is. I mean how the hell would a bot recognize someone is being chased by 6 mobs and kill them all without taking damage? Some people should have the right to report taken away from them seriously…

He was trolling you and it sounds like you were successfully trolled. Bots don’t engage in conversation and by talking to him that should indubitably confirm that you are not a bot.

As I said, bots are different than Gold Spammers. Bots are adaptable and craftier than gold spammers and are harder to tell apart from hardcore farmers. Bots developed flawless scripts that farm a whole map meanwhile gold spammers only did the 1 copper trick which turned out useless.

Anet will have a much harder time with bots and I doubt anything will get done in the near future. 2 months, I estimate. By then, gw2 will be tarnished beyond repair; the economy in ruins and many faithful fans fed up with the bots. It will be similar to an apocalypse. There is a reason why I’ve been reporting the same bots daily for 4 weeks. It’s because Anet can’t or won’t do a thing about it. And for that, the bots have won.

Yeah I noticed that I hadn’t received anything for a couple of days. Great stuff now to get rid of the bots.

Pretty sure they actually thought I was a bot. But even if it was a troll doesn’t matter, the fact is people out there are stupid and will report anyone who does something then just stands around.

Killing bots requires a similar methodology as killing rodent vermin and it will be in the same sense not have a permanent effect. They can only make it harder.

I won’t say ANet won’t or can’t do anything about it. Most MMO companies don’t talk about it openly or in details or even give out dates because they have to take into account that the other side is capable of reading as well.
