Ok so when i get lets say a new helmet that is better than the one i have on i usually break down the old one so i can get the rune or whatever is on it. This works most of the time but sometimes the game wont let me break down the equipment. I use the master salvage kit. What determines if you can break something down or not?

There is a % number in the tooltip of the salvage kits.

Big tip though, use transmutation stones if you want your old runes. They open a transmute window where you put the two pieces so you can grab the look you want, the stats you want and the upgrade you want. Make sure both pieces are in your backpack, otherwise the transmute wont go through.

edit: Karma bought items and backs cant be salvaged. So in those cases you must use transmutation stones.

Soulbound items cannot be salvaged either. So if your old helmet was transmuted it will not be salvageable.

I believe if an item was purchased with karma it cannot be salvaged.

yeah i think it was bought with karma. and with the soulbound items not being able to be salvaged….well i think you are wrong on this. i am pretty sure i have salvaged many soulbound items. in any case i think i found my answer (karma bought) so thanks everyone for the input.

Just confirming what you said in your last post, Gunstar. You can’t salvage nor sell any item bought with Karma. Soulbound items can be salvaged.
