Back to the loot tablets. I dont even know why they were taken off in the first place.

When they changed dyes to account bound, they were afraid the dye market would crash. When you consider they SELL rng dye packs, they want to keep that aspect as enticing as possible.

Considering all factors, and its use in crafting recipes, they need to add it to the daily reward rotation options. Because as it stands, people are too afraid to use UIDyes due to large risk of having no value if turns out to a common color.

I really miss getting them, would really like to see them put back in, especially as a possible plant harvest drop, those were always cool moments.

The change happened about the time of the switch to account wide dye right?
I always thought it had something to do with that, as it meant for less demand per account.

Daily reward is probably the most boring way ever. It was always feeling good and fun when a mob/plant popped up a dye, and gamble it to open some shiny even if that was olny a blue dye. Now all you can get is a rare if youre lucky.. basically the moved the whole loot into champ bags, and imo its not a good desing from my pov.

I believe the change was to boost the usefulness of the Chef crafting profession, and (like Scribe said) because of the smaller demand when dye when account wide.

I really enjoyed getting unidentified dyes as a drop too. I think the only place you get them regularly now (without purchase) is from PS reward bags.

I remember selling unidentified dyes at about 18s a piece, now they’re around 80s. I feel bad for people making bifrost these days.

I liked the idea pre-release, with colourful dye seeds and planting them in your home instance. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Colorful_Dye_Seed

I feel like a harvestable node that dropped 1 dye each day could be introduced as a reward for the next festival or living story. That would be pretty neat

In a way they are available from the daily login reward, since you get laurels from logging in and can buy unidentified dyes with laurels.

Of course that would slow down saving laurels for other things, but so would adding them to the rotation since there would be longer periods between getting laurels.

Its boring, but it has its benefits if you want a metered supply. If you look at the current chances for things on drop tables, they have to make things insanely improbable to offset our otherwise unlimited attempts at rolling it.

But with dailies, you have several options to approach this. You can offer outright, offer it on a selectable table, or stick it in a drop table with a bunch of other desirable items so its gained in collateral rather then primary effort. With the otherwise low rate of gains from dailies, the amount added back to the market should eventually hit a point where its feasible to identify dyes without it being considered an outright loss. We also need better options to recycle dyes toward something useful…. like converting several into a dye pack for a more targeted reroll at a desirable color.

We have this massive stock of colors no one really wants, and the RNG system for dyes only worked when the supplies were plentiful.

The reason unID dyes were removed from the loot tables is that, even after 15 months, the supply still outstrips the demand, relative to the equivalent pre-wardrobe situation. In particular, it’s cheaper today to unlock a color for your account than it was when dyes dropped as a sometimes bonus when harvesting plants.

  • Prior to the wardrobe, unlocking a dye did so for only one character; each additional character required buying a new vial. Thus to unlock a color for your entire account cost a minimum of five times the cost of unlocking it once and could cost much more for those who bought alts.
  • The price of unidentified dyes today (~85s) is still less than triple what it was the month or so before the announcement of the wardrobe (~30s).
  • This is also true for individual colors, although the variation is more substantial for due to popularity and sometimes temporary market manipulation.

(I confess, I do miss getting them as bonuses from harvesting plants.)

tl;dr aside from the shock of comparing prices directly, it remains far cheaper today to unlock colors for all our characters than it was before. There is no need to increase the supply of unID dyes.

I noticed you typically get one out of early story mission rewards. since they revamped the NPE you no longer get to select one of the same three dyes as a level reward, and now you simply get an unid’d one. I’ve gotten at least one on each key farm since the trait changes. If you sell these it makes the chef craft leveling much less of a hit on key farm profits.
