I log in today and not getting an on screen notification when an event is up, Tequatl event just happened, heard the sound for it but had no clue for what and had to ask a guildy.

It seems, once you have completed the meta achievement, the textual notification disappears, although the aural one remains. You can add your input in the thread in Game Bugs, or Tequatl Rising if you so desire. =)
