Build Ruined By Skills Update
This change was months ago. Some people brought it up, Anet explained why they did it, and no points have been reset since then.
Once you get to level 80, the problem disappears.
Once you get to level 80, the problem disappears.
This exactly. The system spent points to make available all the skills your character had equipped at the time of the update, even putting you into negative points in the process if that was how many points it took.
By the time you hit 80 you will have in the region of 80 more hero points than you can actually spend, even if you’ve never poked a skill challenge inquiringly.
Just think of this as an opportunity to explore a different side to elementalist. Perhaps you can try a stone heart condi ele using scepter? Or maybe a signet ele utilizing the trait “Written in Stone”?
I mean builds aren’t worth much until level 80 anyways. And it’s illuminating to try something different on the path to 80. After a few levels you can switch back to whatever you had if you absolutely hate it.

No points were put into skills I had equipped. I had all Fire skills equipped and all my points were put into Earth.
I shouldn’t have to level up to 80, which likely will never happen, with broken skills.

But between now and then, there’s a big problem.
Plenty of ways to get enough points to get a descent build to finish leveling. Craft a few levels, do hero challenges in the lower level zones, use tomes/writs to level faster.
Yes, the auto-assignment was an impediment to a lot of players, but it really isn’t insurmountable. Plenty of previous discussions on this already.

Um… are you meaning traits? Skills are the right half of your bar, where you can pick what abilities you equip.
The system is supposed to try and pick a build similar to what you had before. If it really didn’t do that, you could always put in a support ticket, you might find a sympathetic GM, but i’m not really even sure they are able to do what you are asking. the redesigned mechanics were structured in such a way that hero points, once spent, can’t be refunded (because there’s no need from a practical perspective)

You can do hero challenges to get more hero points to buy the traits/abilities that you do not have.
Unfortunately they won’t reset your hero points. Out of all of the people that complained about it last time, I don’t remember seeing a single one say that Anet reset their points for them.

Do you remember what the explanation was or have a link to it ?
I’m curious why they went with trying to match a players build instead of giving everyone a reset.

Maybe much sooner as you’ll be buying the skills and traits you want before those you don’t want.

It was something to the effect of, “new or casual players may not remember what exactly their build was to be able to replicate it”

What level is your character right now ?
Where did your hero points get assigned ?
What skills and traits do you want for your build ?
How many unassigned points do you have ?
I’ll try to calculate what level you’ll need to reach before you have the things you want. Assuming you don’t do a single hero challenge.

Finally found it.

That makes sense.
Also checking through the thread and there are others also complaining about being forced to put points into earth. A bug in the points assignment code ?
Though not a bug that affected everyone.
Judging by this post, ANET probably hasn’t written any code to reset points. Not even something for support to use.
