I think its pretty safe to say that gw2 was very ambitious in its original view, and its probably fair to say that they probably didnt expect players to play the game how its played.

In saying that Anet probably has enough data and experience to build all the classes from the ground up to make it overall more functional. At the moment the complaints from players are often about balance both pve and pvp and the overall cluster fudge that appears on screen.

How would you guys feel about the idea if rebuilding the classes? obviously some people will hate that idea, others might like it, and it would need some pretty good transparency from Anet so players know whats happening.

They could do stuff like make the specializations enforce a soft trinity (earth for ele makes them more inclined for tanking in a pseudo traditional sense, water healing etc).

Or make the weapons throw classes in to their roles a bit heavier.

Just testing the water here. I do enjoy the game but it does leave somethings wanting and its important to explore all avenues good or bad to go in the right direction.

Hmm I don’t think it is worthwhile to rebuild everything from the ground up because in the end most people don’t leave because it is unbalanced, most people will leave because there is no content….If they do so, I don’t see how they could rebuild the professions while adding content to the game unless there is major break in content updates which the game already experienced twice. But obviously it is true that the game needs updates in terms of balance which isn’t any different than any other game.

What good would a soft trinity be in general PvE unless you also set up the events to require it? How about spvp where people are capping points and killing to score? Would a soft trinity work if it requires a healer but no way to target heal?

Well for starters they have already rebuilt them, and I am not sure how long you have been around for. There have been huge changes to skills since beta and some major functionality ones at that. Specializations just didn’t exist like they do now and the way you set up your talents depended on what you bought from the talent masters. They overhauled the system entirely and brought in new talent lines, allowed you to max 3 lines(before it was 2 + 1/3 of one which limited builds), and made them cost nothing. In terms of skill sets everything is pretty solid, maybe not in terms of usefulness or max DPS, but the groundwork for freedom of build choice exists rather than being limited. Maybe only a few weapon types need reworks for some classes like dagger necro etc.

If anything maybe rework the race skills and add more, because they are always subpar compared to class skills, and make them have a different interchangable skill slot of their own, or a few. Racial skills should always be available to use considering it is in your blood. Imagine a warrior that has his elite skill, but can also elite transform into a bear etc, or a Charr engineer that can set up a hoard of turrets with the elite and follow up with an elite rocket barrage while also calling in a support Charr soldier. Human racial elites are nearly worthless due to transformations limiting your skills and feeling very underwhelming; they could use a rework for sure. I would have two characters of the same class if I knew two racial sets were incredibly useful yet different—imbalance makes things super fun. Just my two cents on this.

Your idea is “GW2 should abandon progress, focus for six to twelve months on a rewrite to bring them closer to MMO design of five years ago, and it’d be a winner”

It probably won’t.

I’m sorry but the GW2 team we have now isn’t the team we had at launch.

The major issues with the classes have arisen from constriction and they prune and edit the classes because of Esports. If this lot went and did an indepth overhaul of the classes they would do so with the 100% goal of balancing things, making things easier to watch, stripping customization, and so forth all in the name of Esports.

Heck people wanted them to balance underwater and what did they do instead but add a near waterless expac, cut legend development, and stripped it from PvP. They removed anti toxin heal, mesmer death mechanics, and even some skill visuals so I don’t want them to do anymore class pruning.

Trinity exists for raids but the stat prefixes for tanking or healing are way to difficult to aquire for instance Zealots requires Watchwork Mechanisms and of course their are PvP only preffixs as well cause Esports.
