I checked the prices of the installation pack for a friend of mine but the only one popping up is the one with the expansion.. how can i check them and eventually send him the link to download the basic version without Heart Of Thorns?

If you have no intention of ever buying the expansion, you can buy the original game through a 3rd party vendor, such as:

No, you have to buy the expansion bundle.

They are bundling the base game and the expansion together. Like with this expansion, Mists of Pandaria where both new players and old buy the game and get the expansion and all previous content.
